Tried to reproduce a problem I was pretty sure I would be unable to.
Oh look, I was. It's for some year old software, we had a screenshot
of the customer complaint and a log file, so really it was just
busywork anyway. I told Gina I couldn't reproduce it and was there
anything else they (the customer) could tell me to help. Honestly,
there's nothing I can get that's in the log or the developers can
find by looking at the code by reproducing it.
Talked to Joe about the USB stuff, we got the new $80 usb key login
thingies. Why is this better than a .10 smartcard? (I have no idea
how much they cost) It uses the exact same certs. It's easier to
lose because it's smaller. I don't see what the draw of this is.
Almost finished the proofread.
No parents, so I got cat food, went to get goodies at good will,
bought the 3 items I needed at Aldi, and came home. To be clear I
still have parents, I'm just not seeing them this week.
Oh look, no game tonight neither. Huh. Sean wants more time to
"enhance" the adventure and didn't get it today.
Finished the proofread. The first one, anyway. I'll have to
proofreading it another two times, total. Once when the book PDF is
made, and once when the actual book appears.
Started a movie.
Then did a lot more xbox than I figured. I thought we were just
doing alerts, but then it turned out we did a bunch more. Well,
whatever. I guess he had time for that.
Oh right, I found out yesterday that the thing I want, from running
around scanning plants at different hours of the day to make the
potion? It has a 6% chance of dropping. Six. The stupid pistol amp
thing I get? 50% chance. Thanks, warframe. You're cute. There's 4
items it can drop. Why is not 25% each? This random crap doesn't
make sense to me. 6%? I'd have to do it hundreds of times!
Sat:
Checked sites, finished the movie.
Started work on formatting the book. Some of the messages are odd...
Why do I have to replace a font with the exact same font?
Yup really doing something there, but I'm not sure what.
More warframe, I was halfway through something last night so I
wanted to finish it. Whoops, I didn't need to, I had all the parts I
needed. I started that building, got the last part on my own for
something else and started that building, and completely cleaned out
my inventory. Sold a bunch of duplicate stuff, started building any
bits and bobs I had hanging around just in case, boom. Fascinating
stuff for you to read about I'm sure.
Finished the first pass of the book template. 264 pages. Not bad.
I'll need to turn it into a PDF and give it at least some
proofreading then make up some kind of cover, print one, proofread
it again, and then make any corrections needed and order more.
Did more games. Getting through the library! Thankfully these games
I'm playing now are pretty short. So it doesn't take long to get
through them, which is good, because I'm not even halfway done with
the list.
Sun:
Snow again. It's starting to collect, it snowed pretty hard all day.
Thankfully it didn't seem to stick to the driveway that much, just
the grass. So there's just a coating.
Did reading a lot of the day. There was an extra big helping of it,
a backstory for one of the characters because he was telling another
character about his life. So that took a bunch of extra time to get
through. I ate lunch in there too, and checked sites.
Did some cleanup stuff, got ready for tomorrow.
Made a call, but she was in the car. Someone in Hilton, a million
mile away. She agreed to tomorrow me just calling her.
Was doing more games but Sean wanted to do Warframe so we did that.
Mon:
Not much work wise. I did something for Gina late in the day, just
getting enhanced logs for the thing that works on my system. Yeah,
I'm sure that'll be useful.
To no one.
Otherwise still no package, the next haul isn't due until tomorrow,
and I did more proofreading. Fixed a lot of things.
Came back here, checked sites, ate dinner. Put the changes in, I
don't want to open it on PC even with the same problem. I'm afraid
the fonts will get messed up in this crazy scribus.
Did more proofing.
Then made calls, I had two. One just a checkup remotely for about 40
minutes, she was scammed can we please somehow do more education
against such things? Please? Somehow? And a place 4 minutes from
work so I'll stop there Wednesday. Tomorrow is taking Tink back to
the vet to try and get urine.
He'll be thrilled about that!
More proofing after that.
Tues:
Mostly proofreading again today. Though we did have our town hall,
talking about how great we are. Don't worry we're still getting rid
of people.
Wanted to get home a little early to give Tinker some extra chicken
water before the vet. Nope! You have a 3:00 meeting about onedrive
still. To go over my results. So pointless. So I didn't get back
until 4:20, and I had to leave at 4:30. I still gave it to
him.
Came back here, checked sites. Ate dinner.
Looked for images for the cover.
Did xbox with the others.
Wed:
Some amount of work done today! Actually finished some test tasks.
The developer guy was totally unable to get my machine to work
rolling back the cert which is thumbs up great! So I reloaded it and
did other work before trashing it again, because you know that's
what is going to happen. I did the scanning tests again, getting
basically the same results with "their" test prints as with mine. We
know what the problem is. Anything too big doesn't get sent. It's
obvious. We don't need any more meetings about it, and in fact I
wrote it up as a bug when we started the project- 2 years ago now?
It's solved. Go talk to the scanning team or whatever. Any other
problem they ran into is their environment. Full stop. But we'll
have many, many more meetings about it, don't you worry your pretty
little heads.
I also did the usb hub tests, and took pictures of the new
equipment. We finally got it in, maybe next time put the right city
and don't transpose the zip code?
Got to page 74 on the next proofread, still finding little things to
improve but really this has to be the last time before the physical
book.
Went to second work. Her video card somehow moved enough to not make
contact anymore. I shoved it back down. Weird.
Came back here, did the usual evening stuff.
Did some warframe on my own, getting the one resource in the game
that you can't hold onto. Suddenly I needed a ton of it to build a
few parts.
Thurs:
Brought my father's birthday gift over, but their hot water heater
broke so he didn't get much chance to play with it today. Boo!
Still busy at work doing what I started yesterday. More scan tests,
for the onedrive stuff. Helping the guy with the cert stuff on the
one machine. Had the usual meeting.
Did manage a little more proof reading.
Oh and Don talked for like half an hour before lunch about other
things to try. Dude, it's a size issue, we know what it is. We don't
need to do anything crazy here. Chill.
Came back here, checked sites and had dinner.
No calls, well, one call about Tinker not drinking enough. Hey, I
did everything I could lady, you want me to force him? I don't think
so.
Looking ahead I'll do the shopping tomorrow, go to the bank, see my
parents. We should be doing game.
Saturday we'll have to see. Maybe my father will be well enough to
come and watch Doctor Who? But maybe not. Nothing much planned. Get
the cover done? Maybe some work on it anyway.
