2018-08-17:

Fri:
My task somewhat ballooned out of control today. I was supposed to get a spreadsheet of events that we are now going to log better, and from that write the test cases. Basically I wanted to make sure I knew how to trigger everything before the software came out, because we're supposed to be getting busier soon. Well, I thought I was done, each event getting three lines in the log. Once for enable, once for disable, and once for modify. Simple, right?

Then I realized, oh wait, you can make these values change though SNMP. So I have to add another set of three test cases for on, off, change though SNMP.

Oh wait, the behavior is different with SNMP 1/2 vs SNMP v3? So I need another set of three test cases.

Oh wait, these can be changed by cloning, so I need another set of three test cases.

In the end I wound up with over 200. Like 230 if I recall? Or 217? Something. It was way more than I think Sue was expecting. She thought it could be done "quickly." Nope! LOL.

That took all day.

Left, went to the bank. Then over to my parents house, see about petting a poor sick kitty and photographing a hummingbird. Nope. Too small, too darting about, and I can't get close enough, my zoom lens isn't made for a creature that small. Ah well.

Then the shopping, then home.

Made my call, he was going to a picnic tomorrow so wanted me to come right then. I said fine, twenty minutes later I was there. He was messed up. His DSL was getting ~200kb/sec, yes, you read that right. I reset his integrated router and he jumped up to ~2,500. Yes, ten times his speed! I was getting 200kB/sec downloading malwarebytes. Neat! Would have taken, what, 45 seconds here at home?

Anyway, finally got that running, took out the dozen of extensions he somehow accumulated in chrome. That was that.

Back here it was now almost 9:00.

Got all the models rejected by shapeways. Thanks guys. Don't know what I'm going to do about it. Make them a little bigger in general? I could.

Checked my sites, watched youtube. Nothing for tomorrow. I am having my parents over so I'll clean a little. I've got a list, but first is Sean's gift, have to get that done. (You can see why I'm starting it now.)

Got a very nice thank you card from Alyssa, made me smile.

Sat:
Worked most of the morning on updating the models for Sean's gifts. Made them 10mm taller, perhaps that will alleviate most of the "thin walls" problems. Also redesigned some parts, and all this added up to about double what it was before. Weird, 10mm doesn't seem like that much, even multiplied by 6. If they look cool, it'll be worth it.

Cut the lawn, figuring it was nice and why not have Sunday more free?

Watched Infinity wars. Very good!

Cleaned up the house.

Watched the latest My Hero Academia.

Had my parents over. Hope they enjoyed the movie.

Sun:
More stuff off the list done. Did the paperwork first thing, though I got up late.
Put more comics into the iPad. Half an hour's worth. That stand Heather got me really does help a lot. I'll use it more, try and get some each Sunday.

Had lunch. Played some Sailor moon drops because I hadn't in a long time.
Another thing I hadn't done in some time, keep going through my list of arcade games. Scrolled past dozens of Mahjong games. Many of an adult nature, if you get my drift.

Edited the shadow hunter story, but not after carrying oliver around out in the back yard. I figured Tinker gets to sometimes, why not him? As I was out reading he was paw-paw-pawing at the door so I got out the laser pointer to play with them. That didn't go over very well. Neither did the string. But I opened the garage and they ran out there so fine, don't play with me. Didn't want to play anyway.

Ate dinner.

More editing, getting ready for tomorrow.

Made two calls, so I have the next two days booked.
Going to start the next round of testing on the card stuff, so I'll have plenty to do at work.

Mon:
Day was going well.

Got 3/7 printers done, hoped for more but meeting + general issues I couldn't ask Chris about slowed me down. I did struggle through them myself, and once I had it down and the automation could take over it went quickly. Getting there was the problem.

Christina was off somewhere, so I was alone in the lab most of the day. At least in my half. I could hear the people in the other half. I wasn't in my little "office" area where I'm totally alone most of the time. So that was sort of odd. It's still cold in there.

Should be able to finish up tomorrow.

Came home, ate dinner, out at 5:00 for what I thought was just looking one lady's machine over.

Not so much, as the pain began here. Two conversions to SSD, glad I brought one. Or the opposite. Her machine went "fine" it had less to actually transfer and the USB 3 port worked. His did not. Took 2 hours+ and had to be restarted twice. Flaky port? He also had more data to transfer in the first place. So it ended up USB 2. Got home almost at 10:00. The machines are faster, obviously, but getting them there. It didn't help the cloning software kept insisting there wasn't enough space. It wanted me to hit the "edit" button which is more of a label not a button, then it would make the partitions the relative sizes they needed and then do the thing. So I wasted one time trying to just get the C drive. Comedy of errors?

So no calls, no writing, nothing. Just sitting around totally bored for 5 hours.

FUN.

So WORTH IT. $50 here I come!

I did see 3 bunnies, one so cute tiny bunny. And got bit by mosquitos many times, because for some bizarre reason he's moved his machines out to the garage. Once in the wrist, once in the knee, and once on the leg. SO FUN.

In some good news I think my revised models passed, I got an email that wasn't a nastygram from Shapeways. Yay!

Oh, and 2 people called between 5:00 when I left and 10:00 when I got home, so that's total of 3 I didn't get to call, plus someone emailed and wants a new machine for their parents, and another guy had trouble installing LibreOffice. So I have so much to look forward to tomorrow!

Tues:
Did not get the testing done, but it wasn't my fault. Two of the machines I needed were signed out already. I have one for tomorrow, and one for Monday of next week. Had no problems with that though, got though the two just fine.

That left the afternoon. I was poking around the software, just to see if anything weird jumped out at me. It didn't. Updated the tablet device to the official build as well. It didn't want to. Tried it with LPR, the web site, it just sat there. Finally I put it on USB and did it that way.

It took it that way.

Poked around doing stuff. The guy that had the one machine signed out comes in really early so I guess he leaves early too. I waited an hour just to be sure and took his machine over. He wasn't using it. That way I got 3 of the 4 done today. Ha ha, take that, work!

Cleaned up the lab a bit too, because no one ever does that.

It was a fairly long day, my appointment for today was 5 minutes from work, so I wasn't going to go home driving 10 minutes there, 15 minutes back, to have 35 minutes at home. I suppose I could have eaten dinner, but I wanted to make up the time I'll lose going to lunch with Tien Friday for doing his stupid laptop. Not that anyone knows when I leave anyway at this point. I was quite alone when I left, that place empties out.

And you know another way it empties out? By having layoffs, which are rumored to be taking place tomorrow. Ah, memories. Have we even been hiring? And apparently I have a different manager now because of a reorg. So stupid.

LibreOffice guy from yesterday said rerunning the installer did the trick, so I didn't have to get back to him.

Another crappy slow machine for my after work joy, and he was only 20 so minutes late to getting to his own darn home. Set up his printer, talked about why a 5400RPM drive was the worst of the worst, and sold him a 500GB SSD. That I ordered later.

Came home at 7:30, arg, did my calls. Set up jobs for tomorrow, Thursday, and one for Saturday already. Busy week.

I have no idea what I'll do at work tomorrow though. Pack up my stuff?

Checked my sites, ordered the stuff, and it was time for bed.

Wed:
Seems I survived to work another day. Didn't really hear anything or see people being escorted out, not that I would. Being in the lab, and all.

Morning was busy, had a communications meeting because apparently our boss's boss got a new boss. Yes, There's my manager, who has just changed, then their manager, then her manager, then his manager, and then her manager is I think at that point the CEO. Or maybe one more link in the chain?

Sheesh.

Then had a demo of the new features for 5.0 they've been working on. A tablet health check and a few bug fixes.

Then talked to Adnan about the AT&T stuff because apparently he's been assigned to help. Lucky him. You can do the SNMP stuff, get to it.

Then lunch! Wrote up a bug about cloning not working for one model of machine, as I tested that again today and it still didn't work. Odd.

Installed the new tablet software, checked it out. It hung coming up the first time but subsequent times it was fine. Checked out the new feature, figured out what fax line I could use as they've already started turning them off. Wrote one bug, I don't have the card reader but it says my card reader is just fine. Oh really? You can tell that when it's down the hall? I don't think so.

Stayed well away from writing chapter 4 so I didn't fall asleep. Someone brought in some fudge, very tasty!

Christina left early so I was in the lab alone for some time, again. Man, Chris is just sort of a fixture here, didn't really realize it until now.

Left at the normal time, again to see someone very nearby and check their machine out. Windows 7 laptop, paying $50 for 200kb/sec download from spectrum of all places. *shakes head*
Downloading Mbam was the work of minutes, not seconds. Yay.

But I got through it, and got home at a reasonable time.

The laptop had arrived, so I went ahead and got it ready. Wants it monday though. Fine.
Also called the lady having trouble running mbam from two days ago, and the lady I didn't reach yesterday. Got another call after 7:00 so I have two Monday which is a real treat, and still just the one for Saturday.

Checked sites, got ready for tomorrow.

Thurs:
Had some work today. Laptop was dragging pretty well in the morning I guess it suddenly wanted to do updates. It hasn't bugged me about that in a long time. Odd.

Finally got it rebooted at got a meeting notice, I was a few minutes late. Sigh. Who cares. Found out we were doing even more tablet work, because apparently it never ends. It just goes on and on my friends. Some people started doing it not knowing what it is, and they'll continue doing it forever just because it is the work that doesn't end, it just goes on and on my friends. Some people started doing it not knowing what it is, and they'll continue doing it forever just because it is the work that doesn't end, it just goes on and on my friends. Some people started doing it not knowing what it is, and they'll continue doing it forever just because it is the work that doesn't end, it just goes on and on my friends.

Sorry, where was I? Right, tablet stuff. Some kind of "lockdown" because apparently changing the admin password is just not enough. Okay. So I loaded that up, did the test cases for the CWIS on tablet feature, and actually found a few more problems than I expected. Wrote up todays only 4 bugs. Go me.

Also did a sanity check on it, make sure doing that didn't mess the tablet up. It did not, and as we can't update that way anyway I guess it'll be fine. I still worry about statusing or something. Is that not a word? status ing. Statusing. Weird.

Annan was out attending the imminent birth of his son. A year younger than me, he has two daughters already, now a third child. He can't be making that much more than I do, how does he do it? Does his wife have a really good job? Weird.

Lab is still fairly empty and cold. Just like my soul, so it's fine!

Set up the laptop. With a crappy 5400 RPM hard drive making it suuuuper slow. And of course trying to transfer her stuff went "great" as it slowly changed the permissions of zillions of temp files I didn't care about, and then hung so I had to start it again. Yay!

Got home, was finally able to do the usual stuff, at the usual time.

Looking to the future I see ???? tomorrow but then shopping, (no bank) and then seeing parents. No Sean still, what did he die and I just didn't get the memo? What happened to that dude?

One call, someone just unable to connect to their own wi-fi signal I'm going to at 3:30 saturday. Yay. So two for then, nothing yet for Sunday. Maybe more work on the book? Probably finish proofreading Book 5 shadowhunters, put in the changes.

Rained a bit, fairly hard, but not for long. Quite nice today.

That seems to be the week. We're halfway though August, two weeks is Labor Day I'll have to get the driveway stuff fairly soon, that means taking the stuff out of the car which is fine.

Have a good weekend everyone. See you next time.
