Fri:
There was some finishing of the Big Clean, like the guy we offered the solid ink to didn't want it, so I hauled it all down to the dumpster.
Otherwise the D7.8 stuff. As expected installing it made the machines go into a rolling reboot. My bug severity was downgraded to 2? Tails case? Are you high? Every machine I try to put this on fails. We don't have much time to fix this before it goes live.
Anyway, all tests fine, because of course they are. I've tested this stuff again and again. It's fine. Thanks to the guy who fixed it, and told me how to fix in the future. He's going back to India again in two weeks apparently. Tell me again why we spend all this money flying people back and forth from other countries instead of just hiring someone that lives here to do this job? Because I forget the reason.

Got cat food, then food for me. Came back here.

Neil had some kind of accident? So no game tonight. Something about an ambulance and injuries? Get better soon. Me from the future learned it was a bike accident. Apparently he stopped too fast, and went over the front. Then decided to get the most out of the experience and injure every body location. Well done! He was pretty messed up. Bikes: Not Even Once.

Went over to feed everyone.
Reworked my Remnant II build to focus on regen and damage. We are still hunting stuff there I guess, may as well. So we do get to experience our new suped up regeneration. I put both regen rings on, and changed my classes to add as much damage as I can. Pretty much doubled it. Without all my stuff on my lower range was about 600 damage now it's 1200! Nice.
Had lunch, checked sites.
Watched a video about a Super Metroid ROM hack that was very well done.
Then went to second work, erased their many devices. Took some time, they kept coming up with more like old phones and ipods and such. One machine booted once, shut off, and wouldn't boot again. Had to take the drive out of that one.
Back here. Ate dinner.

Cleaned up over there, I leave all the cans and containers to wash all at once. Efficiency!
Came back here, checked sites.
Worked on the mold, let's hope it works. I remembered the release agent at least. I used about half the new stuff, so we'll see how it goes. Future me knows it's set up fine, we just have to pry it out of there and fill it up. Fingers crossed.
Ate lunch.
Worked on Sean's gift, hopefully it dries well. It seems to be as well. Now for painting, and trying to match it to the rest.
I didn't do paperwork for September? Huh... Did that and last month.

Got ready for tomorrow. Did some reading. Made one call, going there Wed. Some all in one that won't turn and is making a noise? Ugh, 30 minutes away, yay.


Mon:
Not much work wise. I looked into the "oh we just couldn't find this" printers in my side of the lab. They're right there dudes, how can you... never mind.
I filled out the "what's wrong with it" column on the ones that need service. There's actually a lot of them. Because there's a lot of devices we never use in the lab. Go figure. Why do we have all these stupid things? Some of them are 10 years old at least. Can we, maybe, get rid of them?

Otherwise, yeah, no haul, but date is tomorrow.

Finished half a chapter, they're about to leave to assault the boat, I need to figure out what happens on the boat. Because it's going to stay on the boat.

Came back here, checked sites. Had dinner.

Two calls, yay. Got the battery too, so I can put that in. One guy wants a laptop set up. "Oh, you can come today!" Uh, no, I can't. You are behind 2 other people there boyo and Wed is already filled up so unless two other people want later, your earliest time is Saturday!

And that's exactly how it worked out too. I have now booked every day (but Friday of course) which is crazy, because it's going to be more work than I did all of last month. Why the sudden uptick? Guy was hilarious too. "Oh if I paid you more would you come earlier?"
I wanted to say to him, sure, you want to give me a thousand dollars? I'll come for a thousand dollars. Because that's what my free time is now worth to me. I could, I suppose, go there tomorrow after the battery which shouldn't take too long but it's xbox night. I'm not doing a 2 hour job, plus 40 minutes of driving on a Tuesday after already doing a job and a "full 8 hour day" which we all know is me writing a bit and maybe doing some work if something comes in but don't tell anyone that. I basically do this in my free time. It's on my schedule. You should be happy I do it at all anymore, after my raise at work. No sane person would! Would you? Of course not, you are sane! You see?

Wed is all in one guy, he's 30 minutes away and I have no idea what his problem even is. Then Thurs is an email issue on a mac? What? That could be quick, I guess? Probably some weird password issue and he won't know it, and I'll have to reset it, which will be a whole thing. I can't say when I would be done. Bringing us to Sat. It's that easy.

Tues:
Two work related things today! Will the madness never end?

The first was 45 minutes or so trying to get Don to understand what the SFR was about. Remember my demo from maybe last week were I was like, this is what we did! And they were like, but we wanted this other thing too? You do. Of course you do. Well, Don wanted to understand it. He just couldn't get "I want to do something over here, but using the logged in credentials over there." Was I botching my teaching check or was he just missing his REAson check or what? We need a system, darn it!

But he finally was made to understand. Whew.

The second piece was looking at my old email because apparently I'm support now, and am going to help tomorrow with a customer. Uh, don't we have a whole group and it's their actual job to support customers? So really shouldn't they set up a new server using the directions, get it working, and then support this place? Not me? I'm not really trained for support. Oh, and the whole reason we need to do this is because apparently, we paid a group to make an app for us, (why??) but not for any support after the fact? So we can't just have them work with the customer and figure it out. Seems... short sighted to me? I mean if there's some fundamental problem they need to address, like it worked on our network but not theirs for XYZ reason, they need to fix it. And why has it been so long? We finished this whole thing months ago! I pulled a few things out I can suggest, but it's going to be rough.

Anyway, worked on how I want the next leg of the journey to go. I think I have the whole ship battle worked out, so we'll see. I didn't do any writing though. I know, lazy, lazy.

No haul. Probably tomorrow, it's dated today.

Out to put in the battery. Went fine, no issues.

Getting ready for tomorrow so we can do Xbox. You know, instead of some stupid guy's transfer because windows sucks? Yeah, that one.

Looked into battleships, this one was made in the future, so it won't be exactly the same, but similar principals will apply I'm sure. I want it to be at least somewhat plausible.

Then Remnant II. We found the place we wanted, now to do the quest and get the knife and kill the guy with it.

Also living: working. Had the meeting with the defense people. Oh, you can't show me any logs, I can't take any screenshots or do any recording? Great, that's helpful in trying to troubleshoot your issue why don't I just close my eyes as well and play really loud rock music in the background while I'm trying to talk to you. I love it. Not the first time we've had this issue either, we're trying to help you. Let us. We don't care about your IP address or whatever you're paranoid about. Trust me we're not.

Anyway, he said logging in used to do nothing, but now it does something. But that something wasn't something I recalled seeing. I tried to get my setup to do that, but it would not.

Later, after the call (and lunch) I continued working on it because I said I would, and my word is my bond, James, Bond. I got it to do what their setup was doing. Apparently if you don't have write permissions correct on this one folder it says the app isn't available. Terrible error messaging, but that's par for the course to use a... that's baseball, right? Baseball analogy. Nailed it. So I emailed them "hey did you by chance not follow our very easy to follow directions and you're going to feel very stupid about why this isn't working because it's a f****** windows issue?" I used those exact words, obviously. I may have used "idiotic" instead of "stupid."

No reply.

Anyway, finished the latest chapter they made it to the boat and are more nervous than ever that no one is coming out to meet them. They're about to open the first door.

Went to second job. His problem was- nothing. Yes, nothing, he plugged it in and started it just fine. Neat. Thanks for wasting 50 minutes of my life driving around at least it's a nice day for it. Wasting my time don't believe it.

Came back here, checked sites. Ate dinner. No calls again, thank goodness.

Thurs:
Not much action on the whole login issue. Would have figured that hey, now that they have someone looking at their issue they would be a bit more excited about getting to the solution. Not so much. He agreed (in an email) it could very well be a problem but he got some errors when he changed the permissions. I replied that I got the same errors, don't worry about it for now just try logging in again.

No reply.

So I wrote half a chapter, they "met" the ship and are about to fight the first batch, the vampire's thralls. Don't kill any!!!! And watch out for the huge monster at the end of the hallway!

Got 3 things in the trash, all the stuff from the 3rd I guess. Rest of it is labeled the 6th so will it be changed tomorrow? Who can say? Only future me.

Had the usual meeting, no surprises there.

Went over to email guy. Odd issue, mail just closed when opened. 2009 iMac, so it was a speed demon let me tell you. Figured maybe it was a message? Let's move the three things in the mail folder. Opened it up. No crash. Put v3 folder back. No crash. Put v2 folder back. No crash. Put the only file in there back: NO CRASH. Wait, what? I just returned things to how they had been when I got there. Why no crash now? Closed and opened it bunch of times. No crash. AArg.

Came back here. Checked sites, had dinner. No calls. Had a kitty walk.

Some tomorrow stuff, and some NMS later it's about time for bed.

Let's look to the future. No work anticipated tomorrow, so perhaps writing? It's a combat in a narrow corridor so we'll see.

Then Saturday the setup I've just been looking forward to all week, having the parents over, working on the gifts. That should be about it.
