2019-10-11:

Hey MS, quick question for ya! How does a machine that's asleep BSOD? Woke up this morning and the PC was running, figured a cat had stepped on it which does happen. Nope. It was sitting at the BSOD screen. It was asleep. The only thing it should have been doing was keeping RAM contents alive. That’s it. How can it blue screen doing that? Huh?

Into work, breakfast.

Got right into the new feature. so many bugs. And that was before I even starting testing it! I looked at the visual spec first and was like “and this is a problem,” “and this is a problem,” “you all get problems!”

Didn't finish, wrote 10 bugs total. My testing companions were also busy, writing, uh, zero I think it was, yes zero other bugs. Good effort.

Went to see Onyx, such a cutie, ate and got right into my lap.

Home, put stuff away. No calls. Not that I would have made any anyway, by the way.

Dinner, sites, then over to Sean's. Where I was completely useless, and Jon's character died. It was my own fault, I blame myself. I was still playing my “love interest” and “personal stake” to keep the nymphs safe, figuring the company that had attacked them would attack again with more troops because that’s how the medieval world works. Heck, it how our world works! But it was quiet there. (As the situation wasn’t resolved I figured I should keep playing as though the cards were still in effect) Meanwhile, back with the others (2 of the four, Mizzy was also doing her own thing) there was a monster attack and our Bugman had to be saved by his player. So he’s out of it.

Sat:

Worked on the christmas gifts again, got the last parts of them ordered. Should come together nicely.

Checked sites.

Took the laptop apart. Had a screen for it, so I can finally use something I got in 2016! Score!

(I kinda broke the other one taking it apart so even it was just loose… hehe)

As I fixed the monitor with a part I already owned, I figured I would keep going and replace the fan too. Hopefully I can get more for it than the worth of the parts I’m putting into it. I guess I can’t count the LCD, I had already given that up for lost, so...

Did last month's paperwork.

Played some borderlands on my own.

Talked to Ellen about scanning. Still insists we never talked about it. Yeah, we did. But whatever, I showed her how to do it, it’s fine.

Played with the crew until late.

Sun:

Got up fairly late.

Put more comics into the inventory progam.

Sorted guns, I do have some nice ones. Tried them out, went back to the vault but the monster was there again. Tried to take him out myself, no luck. Don’t know how I’m going to do the solo game, but of course I’m taking a different build there so that could make all the difference.

Read comics.

Went over to feed Onyx at 3:00. Still a cute ball of fuzz, got rigth on my lap again. What a good little guy!

Fairly lazy day all told, not much to discuss. Cleaned a bit. The usual Sunday stuff, and then went back to playing borderlands. By myself. Cleared all the side missions, ready to head to the story mission.

One call, the guy down the street. His wife’s Mac won’t boot, probably a hard drive issue. That’ll be fun.

Mon:

Spent the whole day (minus meetings of course) working on print from network. Many more bugs written, and I got through, I think, most of the test. Have to see if I can come up with any more odd situations to plug in, but otherwise I should be able to move on to the staples stuff again, because they want more work done on that in the near future as well.

That's okay, the stale cookies are back there and I don't mind eating them.

Went to see about the iMac. It really won't boot. It booted into linux though, so the hardware seems okay? Every test I run says everything's fine, both the two minute built in diagnostic and the hard drive test I found within linux. Odd. Couldn't boot my flash drives either. Took it home.

Was going to take the drive out, given I know how to do that now with the suction cups and the being careful. Nope! LOL! Apple glued it together. Thanks, apple. Thanks a heap.

Made a new installer, just in case it was the flash drive or something, and it's upgrading now. We'll see if it boots or not.

Company picnic tomorrow.

No calls today, so just getting ready for tomorrow.

Whoops, dentist guy called. Spent 40 minutes on the phone with him. 20 of that was me believing he had an iPad somehow because he was talking about Safari and when I asked him "this is an iPad??????!!!" he erroneously said "yes." So much for trust and honesty. I finally figured out it was an android device, had him load team viewer on the freaking thing, and got into it remotely. They still say "commercial use detected" despite my not using it for months, and gave me 5 minutes. Joke was on them, I fixed it in less time than that. Guess what it was. No go on, guess.

His password was wrong.

Yeah. Not that it told him that, I had to check his settings, 3 menus deep, to get any inkling of it, but still. Amazing that I could solve the problem in five minutes but he was clueless. Oh, and it hasn't gotten mail since July but *suddenly* it's an issue? Sure. Sure it is.

The Mac booted! Nice. Slowly, but I learned it a freaking laptop HD so wha? Booted it up several times, booted every time. Sweet. I have some good news to give tonight after all.

I gave it!

And played some Borderlands. Got into space!

Tues:

Finished up the new feature testing, wrote up the bug I left it at the night before, a few more, posted it, and went to the picnic.

Why did no one from "my" group come? Thanks a lot, "friends." I mean there's only four of you but someone could have come to it. Sheesh. Anyway, left at 2:00 because my manager did. He's having some back issues, apparently picking up walnuts? Huh.

Came back here, checked sites, etc. Dropped the iMac off.

Ate dinner.

Talked to a lady who now lives in Texas for over an hour about some problems, some of which she's had for three years but now, right now, suddenly, have become an issue. It's fine, I didn't want to play Borderlands, I would rather remotely diagnose your computer. Honest.

Finally got them all taken care of, and played borderlands.

Wed:

Having finished up the last of the work for the print from network feature I looked into what to do next. Staples stuff, right. Went over to the other lab, and Louis wants to send two of our tablets to India. Don't they already have eight? According to Giuseppe they do. That leaves us with… two. Nice. So I got them ready to send. After seeing the demo of the feature I had been testing for two days. Sigh.

Ate lunch, and moved on to the health check feature primarily in regards to translations. I did the one language, the other will be minor, and then I'll load the release from today and make sure nothing was broken. Then tomorrow it'll be bug fixes and whatever else the next crisis is. And meetings. Don't forget meetings.

Oh yeah, gas station doesn't take my loyalty card anymore now that it has new owners. No replacement yet, I made my RESolve check to go in and ask. Wonderful.

No calls, checked sites, the usual. Got ready for tomorrow. Played… you guessed it.

Thurs:

Got stopped pretty cold today when I figured out I couldn't register my tablet anymore. Or any tablet. Adnan had run into this yesterday, apparently, but instead of sending an immediate email and writing a bug (as someone who shall remain nameless has done) he just shrugged it off. Thanks, dude! Now I can't use my machine anymore.

I switched over to the "improper" canada machine.

Work wise more translation effort was assigned to me after the meeting, so I was doing that. She said she would come and discuss it with me further but never did. So I just captured screenshots and movies of the stuff she had in the email. I knew she would want it anyway.

Otherwise finished up looking at the health check feature, put my results in, wrote other bugs I found, the usual. Tomorrow I'll look into my closed bugs. Wonder how many new ones I'll write after closing them?

Got the fan in, so I put the PC back together. It even worked afterwords, what a shock.

It's making some kind of annoying beeping sound now? Very quietly. Annoying. What the heck!

I think it was the fan! It did start up, I heard it. But then it was't? I turned it off, turned it over, gave that corner a squeeze, turned it on, and it was running fine ever since. Weird.

Installed 7 and then a 10 upgrade into it. Should be a capable machine. Needs a new battery by the looks, doesn't seem to charge at all. Sigh.

Talked to a lady for a half hour about various websites and ordered another lady a power adapter for a tablet I got her nearly a year ago.

Looked into remaking my copyright inserter program because someone from France said they couldn't use it in 10.15 after upgrading. I think I can do it in liveCode, I found an example stack that basically does what I want, at least it shows how to combine the images. We'll see if I can make it work.

Getting ready for tomorrow and playing some Borderlands, no doubt. Alone. As I no doubt somehow deserve.

Looking to the future, work tomorrow, bugs like I said, then shopping, I only have three checks so no bank, then over to play with a kitten and get dinner set up. See my parents, then run my game. See if we can get the lab cleaned out and back into space in three hours.

Nothing exciting so far this week, I'll work on the new CI for this person, see what progress I make.

Need to book my other kitties their appointments.

So that's it for this week. There's only a few more until Thanksgiving, have you got your turkey picked out? They go fast so you better get out there.

See you next week.
