2016-04-29:

Fri:
And so the work week ends with no word other then vague "yeah maybe there was some more discussion by management?" Yeah.

Lost half the day in the morning when the developer wanted me to wipe the tablet out and start over with it. Well, that requires ripping the thing apart which we did, and started the reload. Sadly it was back to the version it came with from the factory and I rebooted it. It didn't come back, again. So it wasn't version 5.

So then I got a coworker's tablet meaning we basically switched. Hers had the issue of an odd crash all the time and the SD card reader didn't work. Well, I wasn't going to take that lying down so I tore it apart to see what could be learned.

I learned that with a micro-SD card in the slot it worked fine.
Then I put it back together and hey presto, it worked. That ribbon cable they're using for that must be really touchy. Worked the rest of the day so let's call that a win, at least.

Did a bit more copy, a bit more scanning, got the "last" 5.0 build. Yup, good times.

Went to the bank, got groceries, went to my parent's house for a yummy dinner and going over what needed to be done while they're gone.

Then back here. A couple of calls, so I have two for Sunday (sigh) upgrading a Mac and a cleanout.

Finished up the PC I have here, my goodness even with an SSD it updates slowly.

Looked at my websites, and started chapter 197.

Sat:
Things are getting better.

The morning appointment went fine, it wasn't even very infected, so I was only there a half hour.

Dropped off the PC, hooked up the hardware stuff like his printer and camera, that all went fine. So I got home earlier than I expected.

Ate lunch, called the lady with the stuff to give me, she said today was out after all, so I'm going there Tuesday.

Finished chapter 197.

With that I went through those movies I acquired some time ago and looked over what was worth watching. Not many were, actually. I watched one and part of another, then my Sunday shows early. Not many left, the seasons are just about done.

I did find a post on failblog about different "magical girl" styles around the world and saw this girl in a red and black spotted suit. The comments said she was "ladybug" so you know I had to check that out. It's a French computer generated "anime" that… used american lip syncing… in France. Huh? Anyway, watched the first episode, it's pretty cute! Lots of nods to Japanese culture, like the transformation of normal people happens with "akuma" (japanese for "devil" and the whole transformation sequence. Odd to see a magical girl already established though, I mean most (all?) Japanese shows are all about the growth of the character into the hero they're supposed to be. Except Sailor Moon, who still seems somewhat ditzy from what I remember of later series. Anyway, everyone already knows Ladybug but how did she get her powers? Why do they not last very long? Why does the bad guy want such lame powers for himself? Perhaps later episodes will answer these questions and more.

Nice to just sit and watch things for a little while. I'll probably watch more Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir and perhaps do a little more writing. Not sure I'll have time, two jobs and at least the Mac upgrade will take some time. So the afternoon is spoken for, sigh.

Sun:
Okay, count me as a Miraculous fan. I am more convinced than ever that this is a French, 3D animated love letter to Sailor Moon. There are so many parallels, it's great! Of course as a "monster of the day" it suffers the same flaw as Sailor Moon, in that… it's a "monster of the day" show. But it's lighthearted and fun, and watching it was like a younger me watching Sailor Moon for the first time. And looking more into the lore, even the main character's first name is an homage inside a pun next to another pun. I love it! Spots on!

Will Susan go there? Hmmmmmmm…

Along with that there was some work! The two afternoon jobs which went okay. The cleanout first, which I actually took care of two machines. He said the machine went to 10 without his permission, making me wonder if he had said yes to it at some point and just forgot, or MS really is just that aggressive about it. Got his backups running too, which hadn't for like a year. Sigh. Good job MS.

Then the upgrade, which went fine. I sat and edited my story because I had known it was going to be a long journey, and came prepared. Now I have a stack of that to go through, but it should be quick.

Cold today. Yuck. Doesn't look much better for the week.

That's pretty much it. No calls today, so no job for tomorrow. Just copy, I guess? I have no idea what I'll be doing. give the project is pretty much over at this point. Sigh.

Mon:
Moving into the final days here for the Staples project. I did still manage to write up some bugs, and the day went pretty quickly. But I was basically just poking things with a stick to see what would happen. I finished the last google scans I wanted to do, and saw the "zero kb" job I saw some time ago. A week of this? UGh.

But we are getting treated to breakfast by our supervisor again tomorrow. Sweet!

My contract has been extended, at least according to Fieldglass. But my manager needs to know the contract place got the news or something? Emailed my contact there, no reply yet. Still, it's looking good, and another two months of work is another two months of work!

One call, speaking of work, so I have Thursday booked. Some bizarre "the icons don't don't do anything" problem. Who knows.

Checked my sites, put in the latest edits, wished for more Miraculous Ladybug to watch, and got started on the next chapter.

Tues:
So I had the yummy breakfast, and arrived just as everyone else did so that was good.

Went back to work, did some more poking about and wrote up my six hundred and first bug! Yup. My "hire buddy" has exactly 200. Ha ha.

But what he also has is a signed form to get his newly dated badge. My contract place (who changed phone numbers on me, thanks for letting your ACTUAL EMPLOYEES know) has yet to do some paperwork about the change. Hopefully they get it done before Friday. So stupid.

But yes, it should be official that I'll be there until June 30th at least. Whew.

But still, without that paper, it's all smoke. Figures the guy who did 3x as much as the other doesn't yet have a good idea about his future. Literally three times as much. Quantifiable. Didn't get paid three times as much though, huh.

Looked over the mountain of crap the lady wanted to get rid of. However, she wanted to get rid of it "all or nothing" style, so I took none of it. Most of it was useless XP machines, but there was one win7 machine that with some work might have been sellable. But with the CRT monitors, huge laser printer, and outright junk on that table there was no way.

So I came back here. No calls, but I did get a call to lead someone through updating office, which amounted to clicking a couple of times. So hard.

Finished chapter 198!

Cold today, like in the 40s cold. Rest of the week doesn't look much better.

Maybe a job for tomorrow? It was "show up randomly" guy emailing me, and he hasn't gotten back to me about it. So who knows.

About time for bed.

Wed:
More poking at stuff today, and I got the form signed despite not hearing from the contract place. My manager recognized the need for it, so I'll go get the new badge tomorrow. Why the delay by my "employer" I'll never know. Stupid everything.

Actually wrote more bugs today. Some of them copies of other services bugs that never got written up, but one or two new ones too. Amazing, two days before the program ends and we're still writing more than a dozen bugs a day.

Had to find where my after work job was, but then I remembered struggling the first time I was around there and then I remembered where to go. His machine is pretty messed up. For some reason the registry folder windows/system32/config is just flat out missing. Gone. The end. I ran chkdsk which took WAY longer than it should have, but that was no help. Brought it back here to reload.

Copied his files off it, started the reload.

Got ready for tomorrow early, as I'm getting up an hour early to get over and feed my parent's everybody. Hope an hour is enough, but it should be. If not I can stop back later, but as long as I stay focused it should be fine.

Got a call from the car dealer, they finally found the other key they promised me. Only other call was a hang up, so nothing new added. Tomorrow is the lady insisting her machine hangs after booting, so we'll see. Halfway across 490 too, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Okay, the laptop reloaded and it's copying the data back. Two hours? Ugh, wish the ethernet port had worked. In fact I wonder if just copying it to USB drive would be faster?

Thurs:
First parent pet protection party punctuated perfectly.

Got up to find the vista laptop still struggling to try and figure out what updates it needed. Keep in mind this is now 9 hours later. A computer that works on anything for 9 hours better be rendering a new episode of Miraculous Ladybug, doing weather predictions, or starting the singularity.

Over to my parent's house, got their babies all fed and anything. Even got to work a tiny bit early, so that worked out just fine.

Not many bugs written today. Was down for part of the morning because the 4.7 staples settings were created incorrectly, and that had to be corrected. We weren't sure if it was the proxy tool at first, or what, but no, 4.8 corrected the problem. Sigh. Of course my machine was the trail run, thanks.

Also, my supervisor works crazy hours. She was heading home at 3:00 AM. Sheesh. Give that woman a raise. She's taking next week off, as well she should.

Otherwise, just bobbing along. Did a bunch more scan to google tests to cross another "once" off the list (after I got it back from the person that it was assigned to that said "I don't want to do a million scans!" that wasn't a direct quote by the way. Her eyes said that too me.)

As I got closer to the after work appointment I started thinking, "doesn't this person have a Mac?" She did. Mail was just acting up so I force quit it. Of course, had she been able to articulate "I can't get into mail" then we could have done that over the phone and saved me all that driving. Sigh.

Got my badge! So while I haven't heard from my actual employer that their side of things is taken care of, at least I can still get into the building. Still so stupid. Just employ me, already. Don't bother with benefits or whatever. Just give me the extra money you pay some company that does nothing in your little shell game, and we'll call it good. Honest!

When I got back the vista machine finally made up its mind as to what to download and is a little more than half done. So another day of working on that to finish it up.

Got ready for tomorrow, once again with the early rising.

Though I did start chapter 199. Found a mega man and Sonic the hedgehog crossover that deals with the same stuff Susan is, could be interesting. How does that follow? I was looking up the street fighter two japanese names, Susan knows them by the american names, this reality knows them by the other. Then I saw that!

And the vista machine is stuck at update 167 and hasn't moved in a long time. Super.

Next couple of days: Usual stuff tomorrow in the evening, bank and shopping. Nothing from Sean yet, and it's Mizzy's birthday too! I would have baked a cake. Oh well, maybe another time. Or maybe this week, who knows? Still could hear something.

Then probably writing over the weekend, or something else fun. Who knows? Could be anything at this point.

Keep warm this weekend, see you all next week.
