2011-04-04:

Sorry I didn't write yesterday as I usually do. I spent an hour and a half on the phone with My Buddy Ellen and anyone who has dealt with that woman knows what an exasperating experience that is. After which, I decided enough was enough and went to bed. She was having trouble with her email, apparently (as I learned by going over there) she hit the 2GB limit for her email inbox because she had mail dating back to 2007. Some of which WAS UNREAD. Why do you keep around messages you are not even going to read, four years later? But her bigger problem was the BSOD she couldn't see, because her monitor didn't auto adjust to fit the content on the screen. That too must be a windows thing, I've never seen a Mac hooked up to an LCD display be "off center". Anyway, when her machine booted, right after installing Avast! it would BSOD, but because the words were so far off the screen she just said "it's a blue screen with a black bar on the bottom." If she had said a BSOD I would of tried other things over the phone. Turns out she's still running SP1 of all things, because I refuse to apply service packs to XP because I know (from experience) the bad things that sometimes happen. But of course the installer didn't bother to CHECK for this fact, it just went right ahead and installed. Thanks a bunch. So once I worked that out, I just gave her an older version and that'll be that. Honestly, most exasperating woman... ever.
Sure, there were some like Kimberly I just outright loathed, but then others... Have you ever met someone who made you feel positive? Like you could do anything? She's the opposite of that. She makes you feel like hurting something. She has "white people" problems. "Oh, I haven't had someone to help with the cleaning in two years." Really? OH NO! Alert THE MEDIA. How do you even SURVIVE in your FILTHY house? Also she went to bed a 8:30 that morning and got up at 1:00 PM. She answered her door in her bathrobe. Don't know about that, you know?

So that's why I wasn't around yesterday. I spent the bulk of Sunday finishing Bayonetta on Normal and finishing Mistborn. Good book, even if the "magic" they use is just plain old nerfed ESPers from HDL/Paragon. Very easy to make that world in the Paragon system. But the writing is good, though I can't tell you why, I've read other "oh, it's such a struggle to run this kingdom I inherited" books that are not as good. But then, anything really well done can't be pointed to with a "see, that, that right there, that's why it's good" anyway. Right?

No seeing grandma on Friday, she was ill, poor dear. So I didn't go out at all, just had one job here, answering questions. Then finished up the Perfect Horizon game. I was slightly more useful against the tank cyborg Sean threw at us, then the other time we played it, but it was pretty close. I'm used to playing characters that don't have to worry about a little thing I call "exhaustion" because they have seemingly endless supplies of energy. But this guy throwing his pitiful little lighting bolts around was a major consideration, it's like, wait, I can only do that three times? That's just not right. I made him to be a swordsman anyway, it's just swords are a little inconspicuous when trying to sneak into a church. But it all worked out.

Saturday I had a 10:00 who stood me up, thanks a bunch. When I got home she had called me at 9:30 to cancel, great, thanks. You know, the dentist requires 24 hours notice, I guess it's a little thing called common courtesy.  Even a note on the door "Robert, had to leave, sorry I won't be here, I'll call you." so I'm not waiting around would be, you know, a nice gesture. But don't worry about it, I'm sure your time was far, far more valuable then mine.

At some point either friday or saturday I solved the "box" problem I was working on. I have the speech bubble in a box for the Comic Maker and if you'll recall, I wasn't sure how to make it grow properly. I actually got the little handle to work, so that problem is fixed. Now I'm working on getting the opening of the speech bubble to move around the oval. That's proving somewhat... problematic.

Then over for a yummy dinner by Mizzy and more game. We got through the first group of Tournament Kids and I finally got to try out my Toby character the "guy who can literally do a little bit of everything". I'm very pleased how he turned out, (oh those scads of energy you can spend to make sure you can do stuff, how I love you!!!) and I even got to try his Ring of Returning, which also worked well. The adventure itself went well, not too hard, not to easy, and an interesting situation they dropped us into. We (foundation trained students) totally showed up those spirit hunters, you betcha. Of course, it's all in the situation, if it had been a demon lord or something really powerful we needed to fight, they would have done better. But between us, (and by "us" I mean Mizzy the half-demon/holy chosen/warder and Toby, the "oh, I can do that." guy), we iced that challenge like cake!

Very busy day today, had a ton of calls over the weekend. Cleanouts, a setup, answering questions, Ellen's stupid machine, shopping, turned in my ink cartridges for this month. Got home at 7:00, had two calls and got another while I was eating, so not a bad day tomorrow either, work wise. One person today a half hour away, another like that tomorrow, oh well.

Must dash, playing Halo on Legendary with Sean/Mizzy as no Neil to play with tonight. Everybody having a good April?
