I have a cat on my lap, does that count?

 

Very slow this week. Monday I helped a little at grandma's house. One sort of tuneup job. I love it, he's got two machines, one PC and one Mac. Whenever I come there, he has skype open on the Mac and the skype buddy list window is stretched across his 27" screen. Keep in mind it takes up about 5% his total screen area so his beautiful 27" monitor is completely blank. What is it about windows users that compels them to open every window "full screen" even if it means making 95% of his screen useless? Heck, I have a SECOND monitor next to my main one, in portrait mode, because sometimes I need more screen space. Honestly.

 

Tuesday morning I finally ordered some parts. Remember way, way back in history when I had a lady who didn't want her PC repaired because the case I gave her to hold the motherboard I purchased clashed with her esthetic sensibilities? Well, after getting Heather's parts list together to make her old machine complete again I thought, why not just order two of everything and get that motherboard going again! Then I figured, you know what, why not try and make a hackintosh? A quad processor 2.5ghz Mac for under $400? Sign me up! No wonder Apple doesn't want to make it easy to do. If it doesn't work I'll put windows on it and sell it along with Heather's on craigslist, but I figured I'd give it a shot. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. And by everything, I mean a 2.5*4, 4GB RAM, 1TB HD Mac. As apposed to my current 1.8*2, 2GB RAM, 160GB Mac. An iMac with those specs would be $2,000! And I ordered the parts for a couple hundred? Okay, it would have a huge screen, but I would be happy using the screen I have for that kind of power. Also ordered a replacement HD for a woman, and a power supply to replace one I sold. 

 

Then I got a visit from three lovely ladies, two together, with laptops. Different problems, but I at least made something. Didn't finish the one until today, it was backing up very, very slowly.

 

Three today, anything worth my time? No? Okay then. Reloading a printer driver, boring. Reloading AOL, boring and sickening, and back to the envelope place, someone messed about with the IP settings on the Mac and he had moved the printers around and needed all the machines to print to both of them.

 

Another three for tomorrow, but again, nothing too big. Then the sale is Friday and Saturday. I'll be helping Friday all morning but only Sat morning, hey, I have a game to run! At least we might finish up my sprite world adventure this week. I should get my parts in tomorrow, so I'll start reloading the machine with the dead HD, and building my frankenmac.
