2017-06-16:

Going to rain the next three days.

Fri:
More thinprint stuff. Yay. At least I got it installed, so that's a step in the right direction.

The printer on the server doesn't have the features that the one on the "client" has so they are not transmitted to the laptop. So I couldn't print, say ledger size or use any special features of the printer like binding or staple. How is that useful? The manual seems to claim it should, but I've told the "client" nothing about the server. How would it get that information? And I've told the server only that there's a print queue on the "client" it should print to. So it wouldn't update that way, it's backwards.

And how is putting this into the printer going to help? Right now the server has the drivers configured in a very generic way. I don't understand how they will communicate properly.

My biggest headache was the certificate stuff. Having gotten a job to print I figured I would move on and at least see what the encryption stuff was all about. It's only 44 pages worth of directions. Well, I got though the first part and to the second part. There's a screenshot that says I need to click a link and fill in some stuff on a site that's running on the server. Because MS does things in a logical way. But the link isn't there. I tried IE and firefox. No link. There's no way I can complete these directions. Yay.

So I gave up. Maybe Chris will know. I certainly don't and google doesn't seem to either. I HATE windows crap.

Went to the bank, got food, had pizza with the folks and saw the turkey. The alive one. Outside turkey. Came back here, checked my sites. No calls! I can take tomorrow off after all. Guess what I'll be doing?

Did some of that tonight! Didn't finish the next chapter but got a piece of it done. Invited dad for dr who tomorrow, so that will be nice. Might get rid of some porch stuff too.

Sat:
Ah, a weekend off. Straightened up the house because my father was coming over. Did a bit of writing.

Nice out, finally getting warm. Don't get too cozy, first day of summer is in less that two weeks, and the days start getting shorter again.

Went to go get food, then watched Dr. Who with dad.

Got the latest episode and watched that when he left.

Sun:
Even more writing. In fact, got 26 and the epilog done, so book two is written. 93,471 words. Whew. Now for book three. Did a few things around the house, checked my Sunday sites as usual.

Looking forward to going back and beating my head against thinprint. Oh yeah. But here's the good news: all the pain of the day will be from that and not my ear. Yeah, seems about 90% healed. Not a twinge today all day. Sweet.

Only one call, the printer lady about how to print envelopes. She was trying to change the paper size by changing the type. Smart.

Mon:
Got thinprint working, even the encryption part. Took Chris and I most of the day. Good thing he's around, though he was somewhat baffled at the missing links. I managed to find another way of creating the certificate though, not that I think that one helped… We did a lot of stuff. Threw certificates everywhere, I still don't understand them. We make one, then we make another one based on that one? Or something? I don't know.

Ear is pretty good, and it was 90s today! Won't be that warm the rest of the week though.

Had my dental work done. Left at 12:00 and got back at 1:00, so that worked out fine. Didn't need novocain which was even better. Still cost me almost $200 though.

Came back here, finished Eragon finally, then started proofreading book 2.

Few calls, the outreach center lady who said foxit reader was crashing when she printed (it wasn't, after a half hour of trying to get her to right click an icon to let me into her computer) but I still have to go to the center to clean a machine out. Yay. That's wednesday, nothing for tomorrow.

Made a book cover for the two book ladies, only took a few minutes.

Thus:
Came in to find an error message on my printer. Delightful.

Went to a meeting, the developers had some questions about thinprint. After that worked on trying to get my printer back working. Again, Chris helped, but we did not succeed. Trying to reimage the SD card inside the printer isn't working, and we think that is what needs to be done. Sigh.

Back home I put in the edits for book 2 and thought about plot for book 3.

A minor change to the book cover but no other calls. Weird, not complaining!

Wed:
Got the printer going again. Had to use several different programs to actually reimage the SD card but Chris and I finally managed it. Go us!

Had a meeting with Mitch about the test cases I've put together. He seemed pleased, but that's only natural. It's me. Mr. Meeseeks. Look at me!

Went to the outreach place. He said the machine wasn't staying running, the story I heard before was just that it was slow. So which is it? Cracked it open to look at the RAM situation, maybe add some more? 6 capacitors all in a row are ruptured. Yeah, there's your problem. So hopefully they'll replace their crappy XP machine with something a bit better. It could happen.

Tried to talk York through some stuff. Their printers are all kinda vanished. Oddly the print spooler service, despite saying it's running fine when I start it from the command line, isn't actually working? I guess? As a last ditch effort I told him to run sfc /scannow and it gave a bunch of errors because it wanted the CD. Guess what they don't have? Yeah, a Server 2003 CD. Because why would they? So I tried to find some and downloaded them. Honestly, how does a machine that's run for 14 years suddenly lose access to PRINTING? Only MS.

Got ready for tomorrow.

Thurs:
How do you embarrass a wizard's guild? That's what is currently on my mind.

Anyway, not much to talk about work wise. With nothing to do with thinprint until next week when we have the meeting and the last version of the AT&T release some weeks away I didn't do much.

At least my printer was, uh, turned off when I got in? It had crashed at 5:00 AM and then turned itself off at some point later. Weird.

Finished the edits for volume 2.

Went over to York. Looked into the event viewer just to see if it had more information after sfc rejected my CD I made. Grr. I know, a real sysadmin would simply intuit the cause of the problem and fix it by writing hex codes with a sector editor tool directly onto the hard drive but I thought maybe I would start with that. Turned out the spooler was crashing not that it wasn't starting. So I looked that up and it turned out some HP stuff can cause it to crash. Why now though? So weird. I followed the directions and restarted the spooler. It didn't crash. Yay.

Back here I ate dinner, checked my sites, checked my gutters as it was raining really hard, and thought about embarrassing the guild so that Americut's group will give Lysanias and company attack magic for free.

Hmmmmmmmm

So, plans for the next few days? Tomorrow I might not see my parents, as they might not be home yet. But the shopping for sure. I only have two checks so no bank, obviously.

Saturday I have the lady with the Mac I talked to weeks ago, it finally rolled around I'm seeing her. Sean wants to do Pyre, so that's also planned. No calls today so that might be it?

Only future me knows for sure.
