2015-08-13:

Fri:
First job was, as I anticipated, very easy and done in minutes. Just changing the wireless name.

When I got back the mail came, and so delivered was the pack of fuses and the scooter controller. Whoops, it wasn't the controller after all. Turns out I tested the throttle wrong, so of course I got an incorrect result. It was the throttle.

The good news is I pulled it apart and just clicked the switches myself, and what do you know, it started working! Huh? Put it back together and everything was fine. Well, fine then.

Listed the part as it would have cost me $20 to send it back.

In even more unfortunate news, the monitor faired not so well. I got the fuse soldered back in, put it back together, plugged it in. There was a pretty bright flash from the back, and when I checked it, yup, the fuse had blown again immediately. Didn't even get a chance to hit the power button.

Sigh.

Put some stuff on Ebay, including my claptap picture I found, somehow I thought I had put it up at the co-op after it didn't sell. Nope, it was still here. So I listed that again.

And went to see my parents, then came back here.

Played some more stuff, useless.

Sat:
Called one person and went right out. Just found out a few things about gmail for him, and made him a new document in open office.

Seems I'm going to Sean's this afternoon after all! How about that.

More game playing.

Sold my control module. Some joker offered me $5.00 for it, but it sold right after that. Cool. At least I'm not going to sit on it. It fit in the mailbox so that'll go out Monday.

At Sean's we played terra mystica, which I won by a fair margin. Of course we were gathering power wrong, according to the rules, but everyone was doing the same thing so at least it was still fair.

Watched a movie and did some Mario, yeah, no improvement. But we're getting through.

Gemma I guess isn't well. They took her to the hospital after I left, and they aren't sure what's wrong. Get better puppy!

Sun:
Not much to report, I did finish chapter 165, so that's three in this world done. Four chapters written this month? Must be slow.

And watched some movies. A sort of retelling of The Black Cauldron (in my opinion) and two star trek movies. One Sean gave me, one my father gave me and I realized I hadn't actually watched it, and then the sequel.

Got a few calls, helped clean out a machine for 45 minutes. You could have offered to send me some money. You could have. But you didn't.
Maybe if I start to clean out a machine I can stop myself and say to the person "I don't do charity work. I'll be happy to come down and do this some time."

I mean it's not like I can lose customers over it, I'm not getting paid by them anyway!!!!

But I have two places to go tomorrow, at least one person said 4:30 would be fine but I didn't reach her back. She has a long distance number for some bizarre reason. Hey lady, you live here, why not get a phone here so I don't have to pay to call someone ten minutes away from me? Is that too much to ask? I suppose it is.

Shopping of course, and hey I have enough checks to actually go to the bank. So I'll do that.

Mon:
Sort of a rainy day. Matches the mood.

Did the shopping as normal. Nothing really to report there.

Checked my Monday websites, wrote 1600 words of chapter 166.

Had twenty minutes before I left for my first appointment, which I figured would be in and out, it was just setting up a new modem. The guy called to cancel. Aarg.

So that just left my 4:30. I couldn't sell her the backup drive, she already had one. And she didn't want to use the auto backup? Uh, okay, it'll never be done otherwise, believe me. But I showed her how to copy the files. Hope she does it.

Sold the iMac for the asking price. Now pay for it, already!

Got a few calls today. I actually have three, count them three places to go tomorrow. Three! Of course one is Ellen to finally sell her the flash drive. Installing a new graphics card so a lady can install win10 (why? WHY?) and Boris who always has crazy stuff, but not as crazy as the dentist guy.

Time for games.

Tues:
Decent enough morning. Installed the video card, I've had that thing hanging around more than a year! Sheesh. Of course the little "get windows 10" still insisted it couldn't do the upgrade because of the built in video… which didn't even show up in the device manager anymore. I had to download the media creation tool and run it that way. At least it didn't take too long to download, she has fiber internet. I started it, but of course it was going to take some time to finish.

Went to ship the iMac. Pulled in and realized it was a fedex place not UPS. I realized I didn't know where a UPS place would be. After bringing it in, I realized Staples. I could have taken it there.

So despite adding $8.00 for the peanuts I used, I paid $7 more for shipping than I expected. So much for their sign "10% less than UPS."

Then ate lunch and went to see Boris. He had a very easy problem. Somehow he created a duplicate, empty, iPhoto library in another folder and managed to get iPhoto pointed to it. So it had the 'events' like there should have been pictures, but no picture. I pointed it to the right one again and erased the empty one.

Came back here, wrote chapter 167.

Then it was time for Ellen. Ah Ellen. Ellen, Ellen, Ellen.

She pulled in late, exclaiming "I forgot you were coming." Because she knows how to make someone feel needed.
Got the PCI card installed and the copying began. Yay, finally got paid for that item. Granted it was quicker than a year, but still, the delay was somewhat annoying.

Then back here. As I had gotten absolutely zero calls today, apart from the vet's office reminding me about bringing squeaker in tomorrow, I made no calls.

Amazing.

And then I got two, count them two, within six minutes of each other, at 10:00 PM. What?

Both about sending from RR, so maybe that's a RR problem anyway? Probably is, given the fact they called so close together. It's just so bizarre to me, that two people could call so close together, and so late at night.

Wed:
So despite having nothing the day turned out to be pretty busy.

Not much action in the morning. Updated the website like I wanted to a couple of weeks ago. Went out at 12:45 to the hotel, look at a dead machine.

When I got there I found someone had set it up, upside down. Now here's why that's a problem. See, heat rises, right? And if you block the vents by sticking them on the table, the thing will roast. And it did, the power supply was gone. Of course it's one of those tiny jobbers I don't have. Set up the big one just sitting on top the thing, it'll hold for a few days.

If it decided to boot, in the end. Saw the new trick, "failed to apply windows updates." Love that trick! Love watching it apply updates and then try to take them away again. No lie twenty minutes I stood there watching the hard drive grind away. Finally it was 1:45 and I had a 2:00 to get to. So I just left. Hope it worked out for ya!

Can't wait for windows 10 to start doing that trick, as you can't turn windows update off on those devices. Honestly, what is it with MS ramming updates down people's throats? If you're going to do that, MS, please make sure the update process actually works. I mean you've had 20 years to get it right. Wait, you say it's already begun?

Amazing.

The 2:00 did have a legit "problem" I guess. For some reason connecting to the SMTP server insisted on having password authentication turned on. Why? Who the freak knows? But when I did that it was happy again. Wonder if that'll be the same for my 7:00 (ugh, by the way) person with the same problem?

Ordered the replacement PS. It was about $35 on newegg with free really slow shipping, or $25 on ebay with free priority shipping. Don't get how that's possible, the shipping will be at least $6-8 right? How can they sell them so cheap? Newegg didn't offer premier shipping because apparently none were sold by them directly, just other companies. Well, it's coming anyway.

Took Squeaker in at 3:55 for his blood work. Time flies, almost time to see if his tooth got any better. I was thinking about that in the car. There are only four… three and a half months left in this year!

It was! The same thing fixed it. Easy peasy.

Came back here, made a phone call, so I have two places to go tomorrow. A subway guy downtown (ugh) that needs help with a camera, and an insurance lady that needs her father's old machine cleaned up. (not so ugh)

And played some game.

Thurs:
Had a little more work today than I had planned for.

The first guy went fine, he had a router plugged into his router, which was never going to work. I moved it over, figured out how to port forward on the frontier router… and didn't put them all in. Good thing he reminded me. Anyway, got his cameras working on the net. Incidentally, IE wouldn't install their stupid plug in because it wasn't signed. Note to moron companies that use IE. It doesn't exist anymore. It's Edge now. And it doesn't even have ActiveX. Update your stupid code.

Back for lunch, then out to the insurance place. Got her machine cleaned up, it was running 2-3 antivirus programs, so that was a thing.
Then went over to her mother's place, got her machine hooked up to her TV as her monitor wasn't working, and answered a few questions. No big deal.

Even got some calls today, how about that?

So I have two places to go tomorrow, a win10 install and some issue with a piece of software I've never used on the older machine. Should be fun!
And my mac using buddy Carlos. Some issue with mail I guess? I don't know.

Went over to feed my parent's animals, and Heather wasn't feeling up to it. Hope your hand is better soon!

Feeding the outside birds I came upon a black and white shape in the darkness. "What is that black and white shape- oh you're a skunk!" Well skunk didn't seem to be very bothered by the fact I was there, just went about their business. Cute little skunky!

Then back. Finished up chapter 168, 7 chapters this month already.

No plans made with Sean yet, no work for Saturday. So I guess it's just more playing PC games and writing.

Tomorrow morning… who knows? Probably work on chapter 169. My two are in the afternoon. Then back to my parent's house, and then into the weekend.

Looks like a bit of rain coming our way, haven't seen that in like two days.

Guess that's it for this week. Not too bad, work wise. Oh it could be better, don't get me wrong. Let's keep that up.

See you next time.
