2019-08-16:

Fri:

Some last night stuff to tell you about before I get into today. The outlook lady called, she wasn’t the person I thought. She actually had real outlook, I thought it was a lady I had just made a shortcut for outlook.com on her desktop. Nope. Somehow she “lost” all of office. She had it installed, that much was clear from the icons in her start menu, but none of them would open. I reinstalled it. Had to set up her mail again too. What the heck?

So then today. Picked up where I left off, doing some timing tests. Did that the entire morning. Had two times where the session simply ended rather than showing me a warning. Odd. Oh, and I had a muffin.

In the afternoon I got the bright idea to print out the IV rules, it’s only 50 pages, so I did that. I’ll have them to refer to. Shoot, I should have hole punched them. Ah well. Do we have a hole puncher around here? (We don’t)

Sean wants 6:00 so I went to my parent’s house, dropped stuff off, and went home to eat dinner before I went there.

I think it went pretty well. Played until 11:00, stopped just about where I expected, but I'm not sure where they'll go next. That's okay. A fairly successful game start, I think. Not that I have many to compare it to, but I keep learning. I got the team together, there was a dramatic rescue, even if my timing was a little off, and the party is on their way in the stolen ship I left them for that very reason. Sweet.

Sat:

Cleaning, as my parents will come over to watch a movie later today.

Then the upstairs. Both rooms are just about finished. It only took all week. Now get this junk outa here! I’m thinking of putting a nice table up there I can keep clean and then do things I need a table for, like wrapping gifts or taking something apart. The kitchen table is usually a) covered with stuff and/or b) filthy so that would be nice. Plus a bookshelf for all my old books some of which I will probably get rid of. Like the instruction manual for my old 3D software, don’t think I need that any more. It’s so empty up there now, spooky.

That took until about 2:30, finally had a bit of a rest.

Checked my sites, read some comics. Played some Halo. You know, as one does, as they are going to work up to Halo 5 as their Xbox One got delivered. Yes, finally joining the current console generation. Only a few years late.

Made my parents work when they got here, loading the car up with my junk, thanks mom and dad, then watched the new ghostbusters. Hope they enjoyed.

Played one more stage in Halo and went to bed.

Sun:

Played another two Halo stages, then checked my sites. Worked on the gifts, mine had come apart so I had to glue it. Reinforced Sean's so hopefully it doesn't happen to him. I’ll have to paint it black, that should hopefully disguise the fact it’s a big blob of hot glue. Sigh.

Ate lunch.

Did 50 pages of proofreading of Pyre, sent in some corrections.

More Halo. I’m through 5/10 stages which is like, half or something.

Hung up the new shelf. Like a picture! Rather than put three holes in the wall I put one, then hung it with a very thick piece of wire I’ve had hanging around forever. Stabilized it just by gluing some thick art board under it so it won’t tip over. But it won’t anyway because I moved the rest of my unicorn collection under it. It fit perfectly. I didn't even plan that! They were in the gallery room but a lot of them were on a very bottom shelf behind a door you really couldn’t even see. So now the whole collection is on display. I moved the white shelf I had there to where the unicorn shelf was, I’m going to put the rest of the Disney stuff on there and then maybe move things around a little in the gallery room so anything a bit less important to me is on the bottom. I didn’t get a chance to, I had started, but...

Instead of doing that I talked for an hour to a guy who couldn't install Libreoffice because a folder got some weird permissions we couldn't change. Finally had to use a third party tool to delete the folder at boot. Thanks, MS! You're the *best*!

Got ready for tomorrow.

Mon:

Had the meeting. While I waited I solved the “minimize” bug in liveCode. See, you make a new project. You put nothing in it, make no changes. Just make an executable. Minimize it. It’s gone forever. I can’t believe this bug still exists. Anyway, found out that if you put some code to do a visual dissolve after the window is supposed to come back, it comes back! So I’ll just add that code to all my projects when I get home. Sweet.

Sort of stumbled into that one, but isn’t that the way?

Was told they were finally building my new machine, so I get an “official” configuration, rather than the hacked together stuff I have now. But I like my hacked together machine! It’s so convenient. Ah well. Didn’t get anything official, but I am reloading my machine for Gina to unlock it so a certain issue can be debugged.

Ate lunch.

Then just poked at stuff. Boring. After Christina left I did some more cleaning. Take that, messy lab!

Went home, finished moving my shelves around. I won't need another wire shelf for Disney stuff, but I will need another one for books. I made a little space for any new pony stuff I might get in the future.

Ate dinner, checked sites.

Crud, my workaround code doesn't work on the Mac? It won't restore. Aarg!

Though maybe I’m going about it the wrong way. I’ll look into it more tomorrow.

Talked to a lady for an hour setting up her roku device. She (of course) called some random scammer in India that she got somehow, who showed her the event log and manually typed some garbage about “viruses detected” in the command window. Her problem? NOTHING. There was no problem. I went to the roku site (for her), had her type in the code she was seeing, sign up for an account (painfully slowly), get a new code because apparently that one “expired” and set up her channels. And you couldn’t do that on your own because????? I had to waste an hour of my life being roku tech support… why?

Went back to playing Halo. Sean “caught” me and was like “you have an xbox one now?” and I was like “since Saturday.” He wants to go through the series too so we might be doing that. I’ll have to start Halo 1 over again but eh, that’s fine.

Tues:

Want to try moving my lamp in the living room. I shoved it over to do the unicorn move and the room is a lot brighter. It’s having it on one corner that does it. But I think I’m going to have to run an extension cord all the way around the room to avoid having to step over it all the time. I think I might have one long enough, have to look. Actually, I have that other lamp in the now properly renamed project room, I’m thinking of setting that up on one end on the big black box cat scratcher thing, the other lamp on the other side, and really brighten the room up.

But before that, I had to go to work. I looked into a language question for Gina but that really had nothing else exciting to do.

Had some cake. Well, I say cake, but it was more topping than cake. Ah well, I’m not complaining.

Ate lunch.

More poking. A little more cleaning. At least tomorrow we start the official regression for the 5.2 code. I'll have to be down in the other lab I guess. Not so bad?

Came home, moved my lamps around. I'm finally using the darth vader lamp Sean gave me… er… 25 years ago?

Worked on the livecode bug. I see. With "Minimize windows into application icon" turned on, it doesn't work. With it turned off, the window goes to the right side of the dock and can easily be retrieved. Interesting. What do I do about it?

Wed:

The next official test begins! After the demo we had a short meeting about the plan, and I was told my new machine was ready to go. Great, exactly when I don't need it anymore. But I'll be back to it so it's fine. Anyway, had lunch and got ready for the next test. Made a new spreadsheet to track the tests we're doing, and started in with my first set of tests. Ugh, it's going to be yucky, we're not testing any of the print or scan apps, just the behind the scenes stuff (because staples got smart and is writing their own apps) that's annoying to test.

Made my little corner and got situated in the other lab. Productivity dropped, fielding questions about self publishing books and listening to Giuseppe ramble about our new research lab opening elsewhere. Ah well.

Also had tacos! They were leftover and yummy.

Came back here, got ready for tomorrow early by doing lots of nighttime stuff right away so I could play Halo stuff with Sean. No bluetooth or software eject button on the Xbox one? Sheesh, we're going backwards.

Installed Reach. I love it, "to play this game you need an update." Downloads 7 GB worth of data. Uh, that's not an update, that's the whole game!

Oh, and I lost $400 in the stock market. So glad I just bought another fund yesterday!

Played Reach with Sean and Mizzy, almost got though the whole thing. Nice. The headset I found only half works, they couldn't hear me, just static. Sigh.

Thurs:

The day was dominated by lunch, but then, I suppose isn't that always the way?

Started the day with my machine not moved over to the other lab, so I just went and worked more on the MFD spec test cases. In total I only have maybe three or four left to do. Wrote one bug, pointed out a typo (130 instead of 30) and when my machine was moved over, worked on putting it and the old one somewhere reasonable. Oh, and it's busted, the finisher tray doesn't move, so yay.

Went on a quest to search for a 3.5mm adapter to turn another headset with 2 3.5mm plugs I happened to have into 1 3.5mm plug that the xbox would use. No dice. Even tried a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter. Nope. Finally settled on a combo headset and battery for $25. I hate having my other headset still just sitting around, but what can you do?

Came back home, did not eat anything else because after my afternoon meal I was still pretty full, but did check the usual sites and videos.

Moved all my saved games from the xbox 360 to the cloud. Just in case. It only took an hour because MS in their infinite wisdom declared we should do them one at a time, rather then, "just import all my saved games to the cloud, thanks." Thanks, MS.

May do that combat now? We'll see.

Looking to the future- no parents tomorrow but I'll still drop stuff off there. So I'll finish the MFD test cases and move on, to what I have no idea. Have some kind of breakfast there, the usual.

I have enough checks so I'll go to the bank, get groceries, drop stuff off, and head over to Sean's do do Pyre by 6:00. Easy peasy.

Saturday we plan to do more gaming, and I have a printer to setup. Hopefully more stuff off the "to do" list.

Sunday I'll proofread more, make sure I know what we're doing on labor day, maybe inventory more comics I haven't done that in some time. We'll see.

We're halfway though August. Sheesh.

Hope you're doing well out there. See you all next time.
