2012-08-23:

Move that mulch from here to there!

Pretty good, business wise, this week. Let's review, shall we?

Three on monday, a cleanout and adding some RAM. A system I sold someone years ago seems to have a problem with the video card. Well, they didn't need the ultra high performance video card they were using, so I just took it out and put it back to the built in video. Solid. And setting up a new machine, checked over an old machine and vacuumed out the case.

Moving right on to Tuesday there was a cleanout. Just down the street was setting up a new laptop and getting their printer back on the network. I sold them a long ethernet cable. I mean the printer is in the same room as the router, why use wireless? And another job just down the street that way was getting someone away from iPhoto. Hate that program. I wouldn't say it was the worst program Apple has ever made, but it's pretty darn close.

More fun was had the next day as we discovered yahoo changes the name of .docx files when downloaded, so of course the PC didn't know how to open it anymore. I wrote him out a procedure for changing it, because apparently changing the name of a file is a big deal if you're over the age of 8. *shakes head* One person running two anti-virus programs was told to run only one, and I checked his machine over. He gave me his old machine, thank you very much. So now I have two semi-decent machines here that need hard drives and can be sold.

Watched the first season of the new Avatar series, the Legend of Korra.  Can you really be a legend if you're still alive? I mean, it's the "Legend of Zelda" because it's the "Legend… of Zelda". Zelda and Link are reincarnated throughout time in Hyrule, making them legends. "The Avatar" is reincarnated but "Korra" is not. I would have gone for the "Adventures of Korra" or "The New Avatar" but maybe Apple would have objected to that last one. Oh well, I enjoyed it anyway.

My 10:00 for this morning called me "I guess it's working now, so you don't need to come" so instead I tore apart my old phone system machine and the three backups I had hanging around for it. The thing just wouldn't die, so I never needed them. My new phone system is working great, by the way. The one thing I miss is the web interface for checking voicemail. That I miss a great deal. I'm working on a way to connect my iPad (or other SIP phone application) outside the house, but it's not going well. Can't figure out why, maybe because there are no log files that show what it's doing or what's happening with it? Could be that. Still, it blacklists, people on the approved list ring the special phone. I couldn't find out how to make it go to my voicemail without ringing between 9:05 PM and 11:00 AM (people call at strange hours) so I set up another "extension" that "rings" instead. Of course there is no phone there, so it just goes to voicemail immediately. Pretty smart, if I do say so myself. I just have to check both, that's all. SOOOOO nice not having that ancient pentium 3 sitting there, whirring away 24/7. It's just an unobtrusive box now with some lights on it. Got table space there now and everything.

Anyway, after that was a 1:00 showing someone how to right click their printer and then "set as default" because apparently someone who graduated collage and became a licensed psychologist can't follow simple directions. Because she is not 8 years old. Honestly, right click, then click "set as default". Is that somehow unclear?

Then it was over to Sean's for some slave labor. He needed help distributing the enormous pile of mulch from his driveway to the areas to be covered. We made a dent in the pile. Sort of? I remembered why I hated yard work- hot, sweaty, never finished… At least the company was nice. I got taken out to dinner as thanks. I discovered my left arm got all scratched up somehow. Not a mark on the right. Weird. Didn't feel it when it happened. I went in to wash up and was like, "when did my arm get all scratched up?" He doesn't know what he's going to do with the rest of it, as there's still a sizable pile there.

Up to 33,000 words in the book. Which is a problem. I'm just about to write the dinner scene, the end of day 2. There's 3 days planned. So I should be 80,000/3 = 26,666 words per day meaning I should only need 26,666 words to finish it. But I need 53,333 words. Not sure what I'm going to do about that.

Got my new soap in. I was tired of being the only person on Earth who had to use shampoo on his eyebrows to get rid of scaly, flakey skin. Yes, my skin should be a lab someplace, it's that bizarre. Anyway, the soap has the same active ingredient as the shampoo, zinc pyrithione, but as a soap so it's supposed to be gentler. It makes my face tingle. Like I can't hardly finish washing with it before I have to get it off. It's painful! I guess I know it's working? We'll see if it helps. Stupid skin!

Two for tomorrow, 9:30 and 11:00. Then go see Mom at 5:00. Wow, third week without Grandma. Nothing for Saturday. Game tomorrow at 9:00 because of Neil. Saturday has not been discussed, so I have no idea. Maybe shadowrun? No clue.

So it looks like that's this week in review. Hope it's been good for everybody. This Saturday is "Kiss and Make up Day" so I want ya'll to be kissing out there, here? I sure as heck won't be so somebody better make up for it. It might as well be you, dear reader.
