Snow!

So the first one was to set up a new laptop. This went well until I tried to do the totally uncommon, one might say unnatural act, of copying files, over the network, from one machine to another. It got part of the way though, then XP decided "there is not enough server space to fulfill the request". Or something like that. Clearly, on this brand new laptop there is enough "server space" to continue this copy. But no, it will not continue. So I look the error up, and there's some "try editing the registry" mumbo-jumbo, which I do, and of course it doesn't work. Why would it? So I try it the other way, sharing the documents folder on the XP machine and it completes fine. Thanks XP.

Got home, checked my sites. Ate lunch. Wrote in to return my dead 8GB compact flash card. It wasn't that much, but it should work. I worked hard for the money to buy it and it better treat me right. I've tried formatting it a couple of times, even leaving it overnight, but the "estimated time" to completion just keeps going, and going and going up. I tried a PC just for fun, and plugging it into the adapter just sort of makes the adapter disappear. Whatever. So got that packaged up.

With some time to go before the next one, I thought, hey, a great time to finally fix that Same Game bug that's been around for like, a year or two. So I did! I even got Sparkle in there so any further updates will be automatic.

Then to return the laptop I had taken on Saturday I think it was. I hooked up a video capture device for her, and it's either really, really crappy or PCs are slower then I could have imagined. I remember doing video editing on my Dual 533 mhz G4, which worked great. Loved that machine. But this machine, which is 2.4Ghz or at least twice as fast, it was like, are you going to DO ANYTHING? Hello? Somehow I did not have a DVD-RW to sell her. Usually I order one right away when one is used. But not this time, I guess? So I'll have to go back. She's pretty, I don't mind.

I got a "friend" request today from someone. I was like, who is this person? So I visited their page and their picture is of a dog. Okay, a dog wants to friend me? Then I'm like, wait, I've seen that dog, and I looked, yup, it was a person I worked for yesterday. I have no idea what they looked like, of course, but I do recall that dog. So the question becomes do I become "friends" with this person? They are not my friend. They gave me money to do something they could not as it related to a computer. Then I left. Is this the basis of a "friend"ship? I'm not so sure.

No Reach tonight with the gang, but there was last night. I did play myself, the weekly challenge is worth 16000 credits! Given I need another 80,000 for what I'm saving up for, this would be an excellent addition. All I need to do is get 16 other challenges completed this week. Luckily, it is Wednesday, and I completed 8/16, so I'm in good shape. Three a day (out of four) for the next three days? Doable!

Did you know, if you put in "I hate windows" into google, you get 1,430,000 results? But "I hate OS X" only gives around 12,800. Though as I scroll down I see some results from 2003, 2004. Okay, that's fair. Did you know that 12800/1430000=.009 (roughly). I'm not sure what that means, but I do know if you hate windows like I do, you are in good company. Feel proud you use a product over a million people hate.

Spent an hour on the phone with Sylvia. I said, press the "del" key on your keyboard. It took her at least five minutes to figure out that thing with the all the keys on it, you know, that you type with, was the keyboard. She kept looking at her screen. Like the keyboard was there. "I opened firefox, you want me to put something in the address bar?"

"Why did you open firefox? I did not tell you to do that. Just press the "del" key. It's above the "arrow" keys. You know, on the keyboard? That thing with the space bar?"

"You want me to click on "start"?"

"No, I want to you die in a painful way as though falling from a great hight onto a nest of poisonous snakes, and you are allergic to snakes and all the snakes have strawberries in their mouths, which you are also allergic to."

I didn't say that last part, but you can bet I was thinking it.

Busy day tomorrow, four appointments, hopefully nothing too major. One is just setting up a printer (woohoo) so whatever.  The other is going over to see Sylvia, because after an hour I said "it's been an hour. I will either come over, or this conversation is over."

Did I mention I hate my job? Not because of the work, which is not so bad, but because of THE PEOPLE

Who I am simultaneously fascinated, repulsed, curious about and exasperated by.

You! Yes you, reading this: PLEASE DON'T BE AN IDIOT. It's all I'm asking. Is that so much? Is it?
