2009-10-25:

Saturday morning was worktastic. Went to go see the guy who claimed his print button didn't work, but yet it did. So I just make sure everything was okay and updated on their machine. Then over to york. Seems one of their hard drives had died (they have a RAID card in the server) and from the log, it looks like it failed some time... three years ago. Now, perhaps this weird tone they are hearing has nothing to do with the failed drive, but I didn't see anything else that would cause an alarm like that. Why they haven't been hearing this alarm for the past three years is sort of a mystery. So I now have a large list of things to buy on newegg! Then over to RIT, was a bit early so I bought up a couple of skills for each of my shadowrun characters and finished right as Stan and Sean got there. Sadly Sean got stuck at the bank so we had to wait a bit to even get into the room so Stan could set up. The run went fine, though a bit bloodier then I would have liked, but then, that's why my witch, Twomoons, didn't go. Then we went on to the fantasy game which also went well. So we only gamed for like, twelve hours. Not straight through, of course, we stopped to get some dinner. Planned on getting up at 10:00 to get eight hours sleep but woke up at 9:00 and figured I had to change my oil anyway, an hour of laying around wasn't going to do me any good, might as well get to it. So I did that, did a couple of other little things around here and, as promised, posted my personal ad up on craigslist. I was like, should I do it after the movie? But no, I said to myself, do it, and do it now or you're going to chicken out as usual and then the Hollow will win by default. So I just did it. I was a bit nervous, but probably not as much as I'm going to be. Then I left to go see Harry Potter, which took my mind off it, and took until about four. To be honest I got a little bit more then I expected, which was... *nothing*. I got eight replies, the first were both at exactly 10:54 which is not humanly possible, both of which went like this: "kinda bored, not doin anything this weekend... lookin to hang out wih some1 u have aim?  my SN is XXX on there... u should hit me up on there cuz im usin my roommated email accoutn.  i cant get into mine atm.  =/" and "saw ur post... wanna chatfor a bit? send me a msg on aim: XXXX" Now, my post was both grammatically correct, proofread by two people and followed all the tips I gleaned from the profile writing sites I visited. If these were real people, don't you think they would have, I don't know, picked up on the fact I wasn't twelve years old and maybe used proper english? The next one at 11:05 was a little better: "hey I found your ad on craigslist. I was hoping you might want to chat. aol messenger - XXXX" Keep in mind I state specifically what I'm looking for, which is an intelligent, book loving geek like myself. Do you believe this one line email is going to hold my attention? The next three are all suspiciously similar. All very short, generic "I like your post" type and a link to where they "have pictures", all different links, but all which lead to a very similar "dating" site that wants me to sign up. Can you say... spam? The next one is the "diamond in the rough". Not only are there complete, rational sentences, she highlights things about herself we have in common, proving she actually read and understood my profile! And for a wonder, we actually share some interests. And for a further wonder, she includes a picture and she's super and I mean super, cute. But she's quite a bit younger then me. So I'm not sure how that'll turn out, but so far she's said all the right things, so if she really is who she says she is, hope factor+= 5. (little programmers humor there) She even responded to my "if you can see yourself going out with a guy that much older I'm willing to give it a shot" mail with a "i dont have the time to flesh out a full email" rather then just saying, "yeah, on second thought, no". so.... I admit to being cautiously excited! I mean, she likes Chrono Trigger, no one that likes Chrono Trigger could be bad. It's in the manual, you can look it up for yourself. The eighth one is a kind of oddball. She mails with "I just want a guy to have fun with... reply if you are real and we can email/trade pics..." I mailed her back with a "I don't think we're looking for the same things, you want to have fun, I'm looking for a serious relationship that includes a bit of fun." I say I mailed the person back that mailed me an hour before she did, thank her for mailing me, and say she deserved a reply rather then just me tossing her mail in the bin. Which I just realized is my first "we're too different" mail. Huh. Of course, she didn't write *anything* about herself, so how am I even to know? Which one would think she would read and say "okay, he's a nice guy for taking the trouble to reply to me, even with a no, maybe it won't work out with her and he'll mail me again." Right? So, I get back another mail from her with three pictures (she's pretty attractive too) and that she's still using her New Jersey cell phone, and that she wants me to verify "they arent a sex offender" with this service called uverification which I think is a very good idea, though a google search didn't really turn up anything on the company. So you don't reply to my actual posting, you further don't read my email that says "I am not your boy toy to have fun with" and then you want me to put personal details in a shady website? I'm thinking.... no. Is this even a real person? I'm not so sure... which is kind of sad in a way. So I told #7 that if the answer was "the age thing doesn't matter" I would pull the ad. After all, that is the polite thing to do, I wouldn't want to keep getting replies to it if I'm talking seriously to someone. We'll see what she says tomorrow. A day I will be quite busy, in fact. Shopping, of course, in the morning. Bring the stuff back to the hotel (and hope the printer works, I found the toner wasn't setting right in there, maybe that was it) then three other jobs around two of which is just small stuff but one of which is of the "I have some bad news for you" variety. That one is at 6:30, ugg. Oh well. I have a newegg order to place for a whole ton of stuff, and getting ready for tomorrow to do, so there you have it. The first day of my trueheart search. Will it be lucky #7? Current Mood: I already told you, didn't I?
