2011-08-25:

So I take my car in tomorrow morning, right? So naturally today is the one day I don't want a lot of calls. So naturally I get more then I've gotten all week. Maybe I should stop wanting calls every day, and that will increase my business ten fold?

The first one was easy, it just got hung up and apparently they didn't know how to hold the power button to turn it off. Because that's what I did, and then turned it back on. It was fine. I did have to reload the wireless adapter driver for some reason, but it picked it right back up  so I just ran some scans and that was that.

The next one, however, is more troublesome. When I arrived, it was much the same situation. Machine running, but not doing anything. So I powered it down and up, no change. I reseated everything, cleaned the heatsink, still nothing. Tried a different power supply. Nothing. Moved her RAM chips from being side by side to being staggered, none one none one. Machine came back up! Huh? Tried other configurations, like one one, none none. Nope. Only this configuration works. Of course, the machine hangs before it finishes booting, so there's another problem, right? I try the Vista boot disk. Hangs. I try safe mode. Works! Well, once. The next time it hangs again. I try my Ubuntu disk. Boots almost all the way, hangs. Try a new video card. Pull the modem. Booted my XP live CD. Booted and ran fine. Booted safe mode. Fine. Booted normal. Hangs. AAAARRRGGG. In desperation, removed one RAM chip. NO HANG. Pulled that one, put the other one in. No hang. Uh, what? So, the machine will only work with 1/4 RAM slots filled? But neither actually has anything wrong? Uh, no? So I'm going to order her a 2GB chip to replace her 2 1GB chips and hopefully that will be that. Honestly, WTF PCs?

Came back home (1:45) and ate lunch. Bob called, the printer wasn't printing again. Went over there, he had two copies of the printer. One which believed it was plugged in via USB (it wasn't) and one with the wrong IP address. I reset the IP of the printer to static and reset what the driver thought it was. Another thing I would never have to do on a Mac.

Called Pat back, her scanner wasn't working, so I went down there. In the course of getting it back she was like, I should set up that laptop I have that's about 10x better then this machine. And I'm like, yeah, you really should. So we made an appointment for that and her slow piece of crap can be torn to bits.

Called another guy who switched from RR to Frontier (because he likes slow, terrible service?) and they couldn't get his network printer back up… and made things harder for me. But I did manage to talk him through what to do, no, no don't offer to send me any money at all for getting back to you the same day to fix a problem created by Frontier and solving it for you in a couple of minutes, it's fine, I would have refused anyway.

But you could have offered.

Two were then left. The first was the guy I installed the hard drive for last week, he's now lost his printer and the machine is Blue Screening more often. Gee, wonder why that is? Oh, right, it's a piece of junk I wouldn't have spent a dollar on, much less messed about with adding more storage and then not following my advice about reloading windows onto the new HD? That could be it. The second lived in Hilton. It was now 4:10, so even leaving right that second I wouldn't get there until almost 5:00. Say an hour for the appointment, then a drive home, I suppose I could have been back here by 6:30. But I'm going to be less then 20 minutes down the street from him saturday anyway, so that's what I'll offer him.

And just got another call. Great. 6 calls today. I haven't gotten that many in one day in ages. But noooo, I get them today, the day before I probably can't do any work! Thanks, universe!

Look through the spell list to make sure no more spells were missing, as I found Disintegrate Armor was. Found a couple more errors.

Now it's time to answer calls. My life is truly complete.

No wait, it's only after visiting grandma tomorrow that it shall be so. Maybe I won't have a car all day? Could happen.

Game Saturday, though not sure of a time or anything yet. Oh well. Probably at least three jobs before that anyway to keep up with all this work I magically find myself with.
