2011-06-06:

So where was I yesterday? Got a bunch of things done, actually. Sunday night I was looking into a program like InDesign because word wasn't doing quite what I wanted with the layout for Sprite World, and I knew it probably wasn't going to, ever. So I came across a program called Scribus, which was crash city. No really, just typing text into it would cause it to crash. Thing is, this was the beta of version 1.4 so I knew there had to be an older version floating around, but the website only listed downloads for windows. I was just going to give up on it, but it seemed a really nice program otherwise, so I looked around for the older version, found it, and messed around with that. So far so good, I got the page template laid out for the book! Looks pretty good, of course I just stole the design of the Paragon book, but they should have a consistent look anyway. Right?

Anyway, what have I been doing the past two days otherwise? Humm… watched Transformers: Prime, which I thought successfully blended elements from the video game, movies and past shows into an interesting new story. Replaced the wheel on my garage door. Did a final read on the Paragon book, as the time to publish is fast approaching. (probably) Played more Oblivion, read over the 2009-2011 Darkbolt comics to finish the list of powers/techniques they use (which I started in 2008) and ate some ice cream.

Friday was game, which went well enough for the hackers in the party. See, our "angel" we had rescued turned out to be a sort of genetically engineered human under the control of the local crime boss. I think Sean figured we were just going to bust in there, but I played the caution card and said, really? No. We already have the girl, let's just hide her somewhere far away and/or find out who owned her and just let the police handle it. So… we did. Our most holy and invisible one, played by Mizzy, snuck unto his place, basically tapped his network, and our hacker got in and got the evidence we needed. One anonymous email to the police later, and done. So for once we actually did things the "right" way, that is, not just going in there and killing everybody. Which meant us combat characters didn't have much to do. That's okay, we need to let the others have a turn. :-)

Visited Grandma, got my beads back, unsorted. Oh well. Went to check on a PC sound issue, very, very strange, still don't have a good answer. Both headsets work, so why won't the PC, even with a different sound card, accept them? I just get static. I'll have to go back now that I know they both work. Also activated their wireless, that they had for the last two years and didn't know it. Also that day I did a cleanout about 12:00 and transferred old->new before that.

Today was a bust. Went shopping, bought ingredients for cheesecake for this weekend. Went to the post office to pick up my iPod the guy sent signature required, and stood around for like 10-15 minutes for the guy to get back, apparently they were doing something to the mail room back there and it was on a truck? But at least I was able to load my entire music collection onto it. Did I tell you about that? My iPod shuffle keeps going weird- blinking lights all the time. I can use the reload tool and make it come back, but I get like two days out of it and it's dead again. So I got one off ebay big enough to hold all my music and that's that. Terrible shipping job, he just wrapped it in a little tissue paper. But it made it, somehow, so that's good.

Dropped off some power cords to my buddy Bruce, I guess his wheelchair uses a PC cord to recharge it, and he ran it over? Whatever. Then over to see a machine with a black screen and a cursor, and that's it. He tried restarting it, but he just hit the button, which put it to sleep. So I actually turned it off, back on, and that was that. Sean wanted some help finishing some stuff at the old house, so I figured why not. He said 3:00, so I dropped the keyboard off to the lady with the busted keyboard from last week, then scraped what I could reach on the back of the garage for 45 minutes, then went over there. But in the end I wasn't much help, he had done most of it. Sorry! Also, we moved the dehumidifier because I thought "electronics + water = bad" (he was going to hose the floor down) but when we plugged it back in, the fan didn't turn on. Sigh. What the heck!?

Came back here, finished reading the live page about the developer's keynote address. Guess my old machine won't run Lion, that went obsolete fast. iCloud huh? Okay, it's a sync service like dropbox, just hooked into applications a bit more. I guess it would be useful. And I haven't been able to run a current version of iOS in some time, as again, my iPod went obsolete fast. Aarg. So it was kind of "eh" for me.

Got the replacement spring too, so I'll have to see if I can figure that out and get my garage door back. The site said to change both, we'll see, there is some difference in the two, actually. They came as a pair, so if I figure the one out, the other shouldn't be hard, if I need to.

Dinner, then did a little more work on the new Sprite World document and sent it to Sean to get his opinion. Couple of calls, and at 8:30 I got a call about some wireless trouble, which I led her through up to the point of connecting the new Nook she got. (In reality, just getting her back to square one after she messed some stuff up) But even with the correct password it wouldn't connect. Huh. So no love there, she's going to call the Nook people. 45 minutes. Sigh. Cleaned the mouse, got ready for tomorrow. Three to go to, then calling headset lady. Also booked some for Wednesday already, so it looks like an okay week thus far.

Then catching up on the blog. Probably not enough time to play Oblivion, but I'm in the middle of chapter of the Carlita Tale, so I'll possibly do that.
