2018-08-24:

Fri:
Not much to report today. Found my machine dead when I got in, apparently the new lockdown patch was to blame. They actually found it out yesterday, but no one told me. Ah well, that's okay. Independent testing and all that.

Adnan had a healthy son. Well, his wife did, he did nothing. Named it Adian. Something like that, some derivative.

Had lunch with Tien, it went well, actually talked to the guy, made an effort or all that rot, what.

Then went back to work. Not writing the next chapter. No. Working. Hard.

Did the shopping, got gas, went to see my parents. Yummy supper, came home.
No calls, yay, checked my sites, watched videos.

Nothing too exciting tonight either. Tomorrow though, that's when the magic happens. Oh yeah.

Sat:
Got up a little late but got right to work. Had a laptop dropped off for the SSD treatment so I decided to get clever, oh such a clever dick, and attach them to my PC for doing the clone. Well, guess how that worked out? Right, a BSOD on boot and "oh no, you can't do THAT" message. So silly.

Went to see camera guy, they were recording, just as I expected. He doesn't seem to understand liner time, that if you're looking for a specific event that might only last 30 seconds you have to sit there and watch the video second by second. I tried to turn it to motion only mode but I'm not sure it worked. Oh, and the video clips downloaded are some proprietary thing that can't be made into, you know, regular video files. I absolutely hate security cameras, and everything about them. From the setup to the running of them.

Came back here, ate lunch. Found out the laptop trick hadn't worked, so I started it the long way. Gave me errors. Finally got it going about 1:00, we'll see how long it takes.

A long time. When I got back at 4:00 the screen was dark, and the machine seemed hung because caps lock wouldn't work. Neat! Why is it so difficult for windows to copy one drive to another? Why does it need special tools? I can just open disk utility on Mac and drag one disk to the other, and it's made a clone. I hate windows.

The other laptop he wanted reloaded, er, it was already reloaded dude. Did you forget? So I ran the updates (it rebooted about four times) and made sure the programs were up to date. Done.

Back out at 3:00 I got the guy connected to his wireless again, apparently he knew neither the name or the password, which was fine because there was no password. I put on one.

Back here restarted the clone again, monitored it, watched an episode of Hero Academia.
Finally beat the one stage in Moon Drops I was having trouble with.
Finished the editing, need to put the changes in.
Finished the clone, it actually worked this time.

Watched V for Vendeta, on the recommendation of Adnan. He said I might appreciate the dialog, being a writer. I did!

Sun:
Checked my sites, then put the edits into book 5. Played more Moon Drops, trying to get "manga style mercury."

Worked on a laptop that was dropped off. Another case of "pc freaks out when drive is plugged in, Mac says 'what problems, I can access it just fine.'" Nice.

Cleaned up a bit.

I was watching a video about the heights and weights of mario characters and discovered my BMI is 23. I also weigh as many kg as I am inches tall. Bizarre. Still, not bad, right? Think I'll have a snack. I can gain twenty pounds before I'm considered overweight. Nice!

Mon:
Still really just waiting for the next project, though the project that never ends has a little more work. We got a build of the MFD software that supposedly fixes a few things. I ran though a sanity, at least it didn't break anything. But we're shipping with software we barely tested, a patch we hope works, and another new build of the software that was supposed to be "100% content" about two months ago. This doesn't concern anyone? Why did we test all those months on older versions of software if we're not actually going to be using them?

Well, not for me to decide, I guess.

I did finish up the card testing, it was fine as expected.
Chris is back, yay!

Printed part of the latest Pyre book and got a few pages into it.

Did two after work jobs. Changing out an optical drive because apparently those are still a thing? And dropping off the laptop. Wish they could have been a little bit closer together but the driving time wasn't all that bad.

In exchange I had no calls today. Except Ellen at 9:30 something about her email.

Checked sites, the usual. Ate dinner. Finally ordered more crisps from brandless. That bag has been sitting there for weeks.

More drops, not getting anywhere because I now need to get all three stars on 90% of the stages that came before. Oh, but for 8 crystals you can "solve an easy puzzle and get that last star." Of course you can, crystals cost actual money.

Tues:
Is the action heating up?

In a word. No.

But we did get the spec for the SNMP stuff so maybe I can make some sense of it tomorrow? Or at least spend the day beating my head against it, which is something to do.

Then start writing a script to automate the stupid test so no actual person has to do it. (I'm so considerate.)

Otherwise poked at stuff today, oh look everything fine apart from the 747 open bugs. Yeah, apart from that it's just fine.

Certainly did not write almost the entirety of the next chapter. No.

Came home, hang ups so it's just Ellen to call, sites, videos, etc.

Picked grapes! They're ripe, and there's still a lot out there. 3-4 lbs for a pie, ey? And you have to squeeze the fruit out and boil it to get rid of the seeds. Hmmmm I wonder.

Finished chapter 6.

Wed:
I got what I wanted. And at the same time I didn't.
Sue still couldn't get to the specs today so I asked Chris. He could! He sent me a bunch of stuff. Does it relate? Uh, unsure. I searched for thinprint, figuring if I could find that I was in the right place. I couldn't.
So he gave me a command to run to dump every SNMP setting out to a file, that way I could make a change (for once in my life) and then run the command again and output to a different file. Then compare the files.

Well, the stuff I checked didn't seem to show up as values at all? So I don't know. Tomorrow we'll go over the test cases so we'll see if she has access by then and can make sense of this crap.

Poked at the tablet stuff, upgraded to the latest version and made sure a bug was fixed. It was.

No writing because I'm about to do a combat.

Came home, checked sites, did some Pyre editing.
Got the SSD in for the laptop so I got that going.

Made one call, so I have a job for tomorrow now. Yay.

Then talked to Ellen for an hour. Email again. Because she just can't seem to throw anything away. 2000 emails in her inbox and that's only a few months worth. 300+ unread. If you're not going to read it, CHUCk IT. But her space isn't adding up, one part of the webmail says 1200mb used but the kb numbers barely add up to 400mb used. We had done a lot of cleanup, I said wait 24 hours, see if it catches up, and call spectrum. Hate their email system, honestly.

But oddly, I'm still using my account with them. They've never cleaned it up or closed it. Odd.

Got ready for bed, half the week is done.

Thurs:
Perhaps a slight breakthrough today? But it happened pretty late and I had meetings so maybe tomorrow will show some progress. See, Chris sent me a command but I assumed the last bit was (reasonably) where the IP address went. Nope. He hadn't put a fake IP in (or an example one for that matter) so the .1 was in fact part of the whole deal. That listed everything unlike what I was trying to do which was not.

Anyway, banged my head on that more in the morning, had meetings, went over the test cases and got ideas for more/changed ones. So I have some work to do there as well. Monday Adnan is going to come down and get familiar with the machine though I wonder if I'll really need help? Probably not?

Came back here, checked my sites and ate dinner, then out at 5:30 to my second job. Turned out his machine was too ancient to accept an SSD! Great! I set it up, gave him a wireless dongle because his router was wayyyyyy over there so running a cable? Not so much.

Then he decided to get my refurb unit. Sigh. Now I have to go back. So fun.

Got back here again. Finished up the day by feeding the cats (so important) and getting ready for tomorrow.

The usual tomorrow, though I will go to the bank, I have my last IRA money to put in. Shopping as usual and of course seeing my parents.

Saturday I go back to see guy, and we're doing either Shadowrun or my game for a wonder. How did that happen?

More proofreading on Sunday I hope, a nice quiet Sunday.

So that's the week, and that's almost August. Full moon this weekend, go out and say hello.

See you all next time.
