2022-10-07:

Fri:
We got it! Wait, it's been two weeks and only 9 bugs were fixed in the app? Nine? 4 in the admin panel? That can't be right...
Messed with that most of the day. Found out it doesn't work at all on the new 1.6/2.0 software for versalink. That seems, uh, serious to me. It just gives an error. Weird. It worked on an identical device in the other lab, so I cloned that one. Still nothing. Finally figured out it was 1.6 not 1.5 and then tried it on 2.0 that's the same baseline (don't ask, it's very stupid) and yup, does the same error there. Cool.
Then bank, shopping, saw my parents.
Got spray paint on the way home. They were out of high temp black, of course, which is what I wanted. So I just got the cheapest black they had. It's fine. Fine. It's... Fine.
Used paint, knew it would only take a minute so I gave it a first coat right before I even went in the house.
Checked sites.
More NMS, of course. Found a volcano planet with a power line right there... next to the volcano. Uh, sure. I built an armored base, partly underground, to deal with it. I think it came out okay. Sure wish finding magnetic power sites was that easy everywhere! Hint Hint!

Sat:
More spraypanting, gave it a second coat.
Changed the fan, it's spinning! It's too cloudy though, but I think I have it going in the right direction.
Pulled up the hose and put it away, don't think I need to do any more watering. The trees will either make it, or have already died by this point. I think most of them will make though.
Planted the little trees on the other side. Still room for more which is good, I'm sure there will be more next year.
Worked on 3D printing. I think I'm going to redo the main front part, sadly. Given how the other parts didn't go together without scaling them up and pulling the edges down, and looking at this, it's pretty tight. (that's what she said) Well, I made the files for the final pieces anyway.
I also made a file and printed it for my mailbox. It hasn't had numbers for the longest time. Now it shall. It's a simple thing, just a rectangle with the numbers cut out of it. I glued some foil to the back so they're nice and shiny. I'm artsy!
Glued the numbers on.
Put the glass back on. Of course the bottom part separated from the other part, it was bound to happen the bottom is pretty torn up but still. I may have to remake the whole darn thing. I mean the back is torn up at the bottom, the side beams are rotting out, it's a mess. Now could I somehow find a metal box that was that exact size for the glass? Hummmmmmmmmm.
Cut the lawn, the front anyway. I don't want to go crazy with it, after all! There's always next week for the back. I need to pick up sticks anyway, have to pace myself.
Remembered what "shrink stuff" was, cutting down the video files in the shrink folder. Started that on the downstairs machine as it's running anyway.
Did not start anything else printing. The front and back will take 10-12 hours each to print. Wonder how much shapeways would charge me...
Left for Sean's. We got though the first adventure, minimal casualties. Someone foolishly didn't think "security" would be important. I mean on the show the main characters pretty much shoot perfectly unless the story says they can't for some reason. So I can understand the confusion. Also damage is weird. You get hit by a phaser on the show, and you go down. (yes, yes, there are some cases people have shrugged it off, like that guy that was infected with that scorpian alien or whatever) It's not, oh, you "took damage" or whatever. It's odd, translating one medium to another.

Sun:
Started the first long print.
Put more songs on the iPod, I worked through the episodes of Echoes I had put before. I still have about a year to go after these are down. Slow going, but at least I am getting through them.
Looked into the laptop. $80 for the part. Thanks HP for your cheap plastic crap that breaks easily. And it turns out it's another machine where they added an M.2 port and decided, you know what? Let's not use it. Morons. Anyway, figured out it was fairly easy to take the MB off, so I ordered it and an M.2 drive. I hate to just throw the whole thing away, and using it as a "desktop" well no one would buy that! And I don't need another machine around here, that's for darn sure.
Bit of NMS, garden and inventory stuff mainly. No real mission I'm on at the moment.
Ate lunch, 3D print still progressing.
Took care of some minor things around the house.
Watched a video and figured out what I was doing wrong in trying to get the power from where it was to where I wanted it. You have to do a weird thing, it's not clear, but it does work. As much as I liked my little battery tower with the panels on top I tore it down. With a magnetic power plant and power lines running to my base, I didn't need them anymore. Maybe I'll recover all the resources and use the same technique on my other bases? My main base is just a little wooden house on the surface now. Looked for a power site on the radiation planet, didn't find one. Lots of gas and mineral, but no power. Stupid. Found one right away in raindow land though, so that's nice. Within the 300u limit too, sweet. No weird hacks for this one!
Still printing good. Sadly, I'll need another spool of white, which honestly I should have thought of when I ordered the black. I think I'll have enough, I'm at 80% of this one with a good number of turns left on the spool but it'll be close. I should have printed the smaller parts with the scraps I have. Yup, that's what I shoulda done. Thanks, past me.
It managed to hold out until the end. It's... okay. The first one printed better, there's a weird artifact at the very end. I'm sanding it down but I think I'll have to fill it in with something. Sigh.
Started the black printing. It's skipping lines all over the place! What? It seems like the same stuff, why is it acting different?
Made my calls. Reached one guy. He has lost his "f" drive apparently and for some reason his backup just stopped working three months ago? Also he had dropbox, google drive, icloud, and onedrive on this machine and none of them are backing up anything? Huh? What's the point then? Why have all these cloud services you're not, you know, using? So I'm going over there, the computer manager says there's an unitialized disk that's 4GB which can't be right. So who knows what's going on. I guess at least he hasn't lost everything. I'll plug the drive into my Mac, that has a better success rate of mounting drives than windows it has seemed in the past. See, that's what happens when you use 3rd party backup software. At least the OS one, oven file history I think, will complain at you if it hasn't backed up in awhile. Right? I think that's a thing? I really hope I can save it...
Figured out what was wrong with the printer! One of the pieces has a crack in it. There's a little tension adjuster so you can load the filament. It releases a wheel that helps grip the filament and there's a crack right where the wheel goes into the plastic. So the tension isn't right and it's not pulling the filament correctly. Great! But at least that solves the mystery. I haven't done that much printing on this unit, and it's already broken? It's inconsevable! I've put some glue on it and put in in the grip, we'll see if it glues together. How do you order one little plastic piece from a 3D printer? What do I even call this part if it doesn't glue together?
Oh, okay. It's just this: https://www.amazon.com/Sovol-Upgraded-Extruder/dp/B07WKTVNCW?th=1. Twelve dollars? SOLD! This one is all metal.... as it should have been in the first place.
So that must be what happened. It cracked at the end, that's why the end of this print got all funny. Great. Well, at least it's been ordered and can be replaced. Don't want to order any white until I get it printing again, I want to see if this filament is okay before I order more of the same kind.

Did some NMS with the others. Tried to get them their freighters. BUT it apparently doesn't work in multiplayer. Whoops! Nice to know that beforehand, Hello Games. Also, why? So that was a bit of a waste.
Mon:
Oliver isn't feeling well. He didn't come to breakfast, and he's always right there to get his medicine and his crunchy bits. He was hanging out, and seemed alert, but he wasn't interested in food. I petted him and he was purring, and he was wandering around a bit, so he's not off hiding which I guess is a good sign. Still worried about him. He was fine last night, came for the medicine as normal. What happened last night? Why are you not feeling well little one? Didn't get up on the sink for water, nothing. Not a good start to the week.
Worked on the D4.0 test as we're not getting the official next release. They just said to take a daily build and test it. Fine, whatever, this one actually worked fine from the start. It continued to work fine, I didn't find anything, so one more release is tested. The final isn't until... uh, next year by the looks of it. Why so long?
Also tested two D7.6 features on our new devices. It won't let me log in with card for some reason, tells me the "password" is wrong which is nuts. I know the PIN for the card, and I'm typing it right. Tried several cards. Did the test without logging in with card. So there. That was also fine, didn't expect any issues. The last test was just one thing, it's fine. So I did three things off the list today, not bad.
I noticed in getting the cards we had two expired. Boo! Tried to erase them and put new certs on. Not having it. So they go in the box I guess, never to be used again.
Left for f drive guy. His drive is dead, Jim. I powered it on and it just clicked and gave up. Nice. We did it that way, apparently, because he has a 256GB SSD but more than will fit on it. Whoops. So everything from 7/28 is gone.
Brought it home, putting in a 512GB SSD, and I'll probably distribute his stuff a little better. Like put his documents at least on one of the many cloud services he has.
Oliver is a little better. He ate his treat, and was eating a little of his leftover food. Doesn't act sick. Odd.
Started the copy. SSD to SSD goes a bit better. It's copying his pictures from the USB 2 backup drive now so that's going a bit slowly but it'll be done soon enough.
Ate dinner, checked sites. No calls, thank you universe.

Tues:
Another small haul, I was getting ready to leave and saw the lady with the cart that held the candy and such. Thinking I might get some candy I waited, and when I left checked the baskets. Nope, just some pastries. I'll take them.
Nothing work wise. Nothing new came in, and testing onedrive seemed pointless.
Brought the guy's system back. Set it up, answered a few questions. Got his documents folder down enough to put on onedrive, as I forget about that last night. He had a bunch of pictures in there, so I moved them into his pictures folder.
Oliver didn't want any snack when I got home. He still seems to be not himself. I made the appointments for everyone's wellness exam. Sadly his isn't until Nov 3! Then one in late november and one in December. Sheesh. They're still that busy? Why? If he's still acting funny in a few days I'll call and see what they have open.
I've gotten three spam calls in a row just sitting here.
Ate dinner, checked sites.
I did get a real call, a broken display, how wonderful. I suppose as I know it's been busted and could, in theory, take it apart to make sure I'm ordering the right thing, I could take the job. I just hate doing them so much. So much.
Now it's four times. Stop it!
Reach both people. Told the e-mail lady to try just typing the name of the person and seeing if Thunderbird would fill in the rest of the email address. Low and Behold it did so. "How would I have ever known that?" she asked of me. Oh, I don't know, maybe trying it to see what happens?
And the other guy I told I would come get his stupid son's laptop and see about changing the stupid LCD. Which I hate doing, I remind you.
Watched the latest Rick and Morty.
I think I'm going to build a base on the storm crystal planet. Could be fun, dodging storms and whatnot. No?
Oliver ate some dinner, he's not totally off food. Weird. Not much though. We'll see if he comes for his usual meal after medicine.
NMS- worked on the new base so I can get storm crystals more "easily." Finished it, got a few.

Wed:
Looks like some recovery! Oliver acted much better this morning, moving faster, and coming to get his "cereal" that he even ate some of. He then ate some wet food too, so I'm a little less concerned.
Left for work, which was still nothing with a side of boredom.
Got the laptop, hopefully I can crack it open without too much issue.
Wanted a poop bag so I opened the amazon package I got yesterday, going to use that. It's the monthly delivery of the treats and water additive. Imagine my surprise when I found the creality part in there too. Wha? I ordered that on the 3rd, how was it put into the package and got here on the 4th? That's crazy talk.
Installed it, there wasn't exactly instructions just a diagram, so I wonder if I've done it right. I don't seem to see the screw they reference. Well, it is printing now, so we'll see. Initial signs are positive. Some time has passed. It's printing so smoooooooth with a capital SMOO. First layer is down, it's so much better now. That was the issue for sure.
More good news for Oliver, he came and ate some dinner!
Made my calls, ordered the LCD for the guy. And a person who can't tell me what their problem is, which is typical. I'm going there tomorrow. Print proceeds well.
More NMS. Thought about putting in a gas extractor, as I find them all over the place while looking for power. Looked for enough data modules to buy blueprints for them. Got them. But will set up extractor later. Also put stuff away, gathered plants, the usual.
Oliver came to eat crunching bits in the night. Didn't eat very many though.
Print is almost done, still looking great!

Thurs:
Well, one step forward and two back. Oliver greeted me on my bed and followed me in for medicine so I figured crisis over, right? No. Was not interested in breakfast of any kind.
Went to work, I guess we'll be doing more stuff soon. Some other group is "too busy" and wants us to do upgrade testing. They'll get us the procedure I guess so that should be whole buckets of fun.
Otherwise had the usual meetings. No word on a new onedrive app but I told him about the issues I encountered using the last version. Had the status meeting.
Went to after work job, her 10 year old printer won't print to the equally old laptop but will print to the much new, much faster laptop she... doesn't prefer. Neat. So I tried for an hour and a half to figure that out. And get it on Wi-Fi. Of course the only method seems to be WPS which doesn't exist anymore on Spectrum routers. I know it's supposed to be less secure or something but you took away a good feature and replaced it with nothing. (I'm talking about the industry now not spectrum itself.) That's not better! She does want an SSD so I'll have to go back.
Got back home, Oliver greeted me at the door, did not want treats. Ate one, halfheartedly.
Watched him try to use the box. Huh. Maybe that's the problem? Called the vet, no answer. Left a message. Sigh.
Started the next piece of Mizzy's print, it's only a 3 hour print so.
Realized on the way home I forgot to have salad. Huh. See, I had an extra cookie and some chips because I found more stuff in the cans today. So I'm not really all that hungry. I'll have it for lunch tomorrow to make up for it.
One call, the guy down the street wants to make a photo book, I think, from what I got out of his ramblings.
Yes, that was it. Hopefully we can find something to quickly do the job. Didn't iPhoto used to be able to do that itself?
Ordered the SSDs and more white filament as this stuff seems just fine. It didn't snap off like the other stuff did, so that's a plus.

Let's look ahead. The vet didn't even call me back so hopefully Oliver is okay another day or two until they do. Not sure if we'll be starting upgrade testing tomorrow or what. Not much else in the pipeline I don't think.
I'll do the shopping and see my parents of course. We are doing the Monster Hunter Academy game Friday and I guess the Star Trek game Saturday, so no movie with my parents then. Otherwise try to do more printing. 1:00 I'll be over trying to do this book project for the guy. Not really a repair, but whatever.

Oh, cut the back lawn this week. Get the sticks first of course. That's the only real plan.

That's it for now. Tune in next week to see how everything's going.
