2014-10-16:

Fri:
Morning one went a little long, thanks to me not knowing that shortcuts in windows all didn't point to the same place. See, you can go into the properties of say, Firefox, and tell it to open a URL when it opens. Because that would be handy, right? Oh wait, it's called the homepage, and as usual MS's stupid decisions have led to more places malware can hide.

So after resetting her DNS, scanning everything, and finally figuring out the Firefox alias on the desktop was different than the one in the "dock" and fixing that one as well (and the one in the start menu) it was over.

Ate lunch about 2:00. Mixed up the silicon I had left. Seems to have been just enough, actually, at least for the pins. I don't know, it was the same color but the white stuff was not very runny. Much stiffer than it was before. And it's been about 12 hours? And it doesn't seem to have hardened at all. I put my space heater on it, see if that helps it along a bit. I had them all down in the clay before I remembered, oh yeah, I wanted to paint them and photograph them. Whoops. I had sanded them, so at least that much should be done. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Got the gear in the mail, so I installed it. Printed a page, so it works.

Then at 5:30 I went out to my 6:00. She had some kind of cell device plugged in, wrongly, so that was screwing up her IP addresses for the router. Got that sorted, then gave her an antivirus as it seemed she had none. Sheesh.

Cleaned up a little, my father is coming over tomorrow.

And that was pretty much Friday. Onto the weekend!

Sat:

Called the one person in the morning, but she wanted Tuesday, so that as out. I called someone else, worked them through something. Then the next person I called did want me to come, so I went. His router was acting up, so I made $10 on the one I nearly bricked from the Ronald sale and sold it to him. Took care of some other minor things, and came back here.

Got the last two achievements in Oblivion, of all places. Had to check two save games to see which one I was doing the missions on. There's just one more total for that game. I would need to complete the entire DLC and choose the other option to get it. Not going to be doing that for a while, if ever.

Had my father over and watched 3 Dr Who.

Was showing my father the 3D models of the pins, and realized I didn't print Applejack's. So even if the stuff does harden, I'm one off. AARG. So I printed that one up real quick.

Kicking myself, I recalled that two part clay like stuff I bought. You mix it together, it turns yellow, and boom, in a few minutes you have a mould in that shape. I bought it a long time ago when I wast just starting out. I figured it was too costly, but for this, THIS, it would be perfect. This is what it was made for! Can I find it? NO!

No clue where it went to. It was in a fairly big package too. AARG, why does the universe hate me? Have I been that bad? Really?

Found it. It was with the paints, rather than with the crafting stuff, where it should have been. Ah well, that didn't take a half hour.

Watched the latest Dr. Who.

Sun:
Had a thought about the PS3. Figuring it might be the laser, I took both optical drives apart and put the laser from the one into the other. Then I had to take it apart again because it didn't want to spin the disk. Something must have gotten caught. But that time it worked, and I managed to play Ni No Kunai all afternoon. (Yes, it took me a while to get them apart and together) So that's good, I can finally finish that game.

The silicon is hardening, slowly. There still seems to be a sticky layer on top, but it seems solid underneath. I didn't mold the missing pin with the clay stuff. Figured I would hold off, see if I needed to redo the 5, and if so, having the other be separate would be silly. So we'll let it sit longer, see what happens.

Pretty sparse for calls, didn't reach one person. Reached two others. A lady I set up a new iMac for who wants to give me her old mac mini, and I ordered an external drive for a guy that I'll set up later. So shopping and one minor appointment tomorrow is all I've got.

Mon:
Reality really is backwards. I started feeling a bit scratchy in the throat about 8:00 PM Sunday, and I'm pretty sure I have a cold now. I feel okay, but I'm blowing my nose and my throat feels funny. Of course, this would happen the week I got a bunch of jobs, rather than the week I had nothing to do, you know, like last week?

Anyway, went shopping, the bank was closed. Got 20% off a router and recycled an old printer at Staples. Got candy because I'm an eternal optimist, despite only getting a few kids every year to the house.

Did the one job, hooking up an older printer for someone when their kodak cartridge carriage got stuck. The black wouldn't print despite cleaning it several times. I recommended a laser printer. They were nice enough to pay me, despite my not doing anything for them.

Watched a new anime, Log Horizon. It's a bit like Sword Art Online, a genre I enjoy, getting stuck in a game and then "now what." They did things quite differently between the two, but I enjoyed it. Second season just started!

Took medicine and went to bed very early.

Tues:
Throat is not sore anymore. Still have a runny nose though. Man, that stuff I take really makes nights weird.

Anyway, lots of jobs today.

First lady forgot me, but at least she was there. I set up the tablet she wants to give her child, which did 1gb+ worth of updates. Aarg. Did some minor things to the rest of the laptops she had, all of which took me far too long.

Came home, had 15 minutes to eat lunch, and I was only a few minutes late to my 12:30. She said she was having iOS problems, when in reality she was having internet issues. Somehow they lost her cable modem in some database, as they said she had no device associated with her account. This of course took an hour, and being disconnected once. I think the lady I was talking to misunderstood the problem and was chasing something that didn't exist for a while. Hard to say. Went and picked up my free mac mini, and then took some pictures of some stuff a guy wants to sell.

My parents dropped off a table, as I wanted one for the garage, which I think will work out fine, just fine. Put that up while I waited for my 5:30 to roll around. The email guy.

Macworld is no longer doing a print publication. First Nintendo Power goes away, now them? They're still doing the magazine, it's just all digital now. Eh, no thanks, I think. Browsing a PDF just isn't the same, is it? Nope.

Email guy just somehow erased the 'p' in 'smtp' in his mail server name. Huh? He had a few other things for me to do but all minor stuff.

Got Borderlands 1.5 on the way home. Going to play with Sean and Mizzy tonight, I hope.

Probably the last new Xbox 360 game there will ever be. And maybe the last game I'll buy for a long, long time, as there's no way I'm paying full price for an xbone.

Three jobs for tomorrow, and I'm felling better. Been getting better all day, oddly. Maybe I'll be fully recovered in just two days? That would be nice.

My silicone is hardening! It's not sticky anymore, but it's still not as solid as I would like. Still, there's hope there.

Watched the first two episodes of Log Horizon season 2.

Well, almost watched Eps 2. Game time.

Wed:
Pretty busy today. Morning one was the printer, which I didn't see the cartridge error he took a picture of. He did have another printer, with the same cartridge, so we changed the black and at least got it printing again. In black anyway.

Came back here, ate lunch, watched that second episode.

Out at 11:45 to a cleanout. That took two hours. svchost and the panda process were taking way too much memory. Ran mbam, tdsskiller, combofix, and hitman pro, but only combofix did any good. It finally went back to normal after that. Oh, the machine is still a piece of crap, but at least it's a piece of crap with a better memory footprint.

Came back here, did two missions in Borderlands that got skipped when I jumped in with Sean then went back out for my 4:00. Another cleanout. He was running two routers, so I took off the frontier one (the worse one) and ran the standard stuff. He actually got 4.5mb/s over DSL, the highest speed I've recorded in my admittedly few recordings of that, because I never remember to.

Ton of calls today, and book guy says he's got the files edited again. Let's hope he hasn't thrown away the originals this time.

Rainy, and yesterday was so perfect too, in the 80s.

Still have a runny nose, feel fine.

Happy Birthday to Sean, his replacement gift hasn't shipped yet. Sigh.

Thurs:
Still have a bit of a cough, and my nose is still running a little.

First one went fine. Dropped off a VGA cable and then went to York. I guess the new guy I met before is gone, and there's a new-new guy? I don't know. Anyway, his laptop was infected, and I did some other little things they needed.

Came back for lunch.

Went out again at 1:00, for… no reason at all apparently. But at least I was not that far away from actual work, setting up a new modem and cable box for a guy. So that went fine. Came back here, watched the first episode of Video Game High School Season 3. Excellent work all around as usual from that group.

Then out to see book guy again. Once again, not leaving well enough alone, he had made another folder for the "final" rtf files. And duplicated it at least once. One copy had half aliases and half real files. Some files were still in the original folder. I found two others hanging around, one with one file in it, and one that was empty and had a space in the name. The original folder of course had been duplicated nine, yes NINE times. How that man can mess his machine up that badly over and over amazes me. And not in the good way.

But I got that straightened out. He doesn't know where he put the intro files, and he has four at the end missing, so I have to go back tomorrow and finish that job up. That's at 3:00 so I see my parents after that.

Game saturday, continuing Stan's horror game.

Some calls today, have a job for next thursday, something about printing pictures. Still didn't reach the outreach center but I did reach another one, so I have two in the afternoon. Not that I'm charging the book guy, but whatever. Perhaps I will reach the outreach lady in the morning and go over there? Only time will tell.

Some new Apple hardware was announced today. Finally updated the mac mini, but I'm not sure why they bothered, 1.4ghz? Ugh. New iPads.

You know what someone has bothered with? Rebooting Rainbow Brite! That I'm interested to see.

Trees are turned, mine isn't of course.

That seems to be about it for this week. Halfway through October, hope it's treating you all well.

See you next time.
