2018-11-16:

Fri:
Quite busy, at least in the morning.
Looked into the ipv6 thing some more, first by finding a router around here that could do it and plugging my laptop and the printer into it. Then by going to the lab behind ours that seems to have "the real thing." As expected, it didn't help in the least and the problem was still there. How many more times do I have to prove it's not the network, it's our software? Really.
I found that a RemoteUI bug was fixed in the last release and verified that.
I did some tablet bugs as well, now that it was told to me that my config file was wrong, and that's why the language menu wasn't showing up. Where did I even get that from? I usually copy it right from the tablet for that very reason.
Made a movie of where the B/W driver on win10 got stuck so they knew what I was talking about.

Certainly did not do any more blender stuff, and the model I've made with only sculpting looks pretty good, for it being the first time I've (not) done that.

Left to go to the bank and shopping, hoping to get to the restaurant at 5:30 like Sean said.

I did! I was pouring rain.

We got back about 8:00 because some persons wanted to stop for ice cream. In the rain. When it had snowed that day and was freezing out. They are weird. Naming no names. But they are. They know who they are. So weird.

Stayed on track fairly well, even if Sean completely forgot what the next adventure he set up was. So silly. We at least saw the perpetrator's face with magic. Now to track him down.

Sat:
Opened in a big way, did some shopping. Got a bunch of SSDs, 480GB for about what I usually get 256GB ones for. Nifty. Also some batteries so my alarm system stops complaining at me, and a gift for Heather. Nice.

Went out to my 10:00. That was a bust because as soon as I turned it on, the hard drive started clicking away and it hung. Great job! He's taking it back and doing what he should have done in the first place- let me get him one.

Came back here, boxed up Sean/Mizzy gifts now that they're done. Ready to wrap.

Went to my 1:00 and it was fine. Just writing up how to print envelopes (again) and taking care of a few things for her.

Back here I got the leaves in the front lawn to the, uh, front.
More shopping for gifts.
Ordered enclosures because I forgot them.
Transferred my 128GB SSD to the 500GB one I bought a little while ago. No one is going to buy this one for $100 when I got them for half that. So I'll just take this one and finally not have to worry about running out of space so much.

Then went back over the sculpting tutorial in Blender. It's one thing to watch the tutorial and think "oh, that's how you do that!" and quite another to go somewhere (work, I don't know, could be the beach I just threw that out there) and sit down to sculpt something and wonder "what did he do again?"

Anyway, 26 minutes into the tutorial and his creature looked like this

[[image file="2018-11/tutorialcreature.png" alt="clay creature" ]]

and my creature looked like this

[[image file="2018-11/mycreature.png" alt="my creature" ]]

Surprisingly close, I think. Something happened to the arms when I was messing with edit mode, so somewhat ignore them, but yeah, I think I can keep going with the farcian I was modeling sometime and smooth it out. I think my creature looks a little more evil, look at that grin he has.

Here's what we were both working off of

[[image file="2018-11/reference.png" alt="reference creature" ]]

Sun:
Did more FF7 right off the bat.
Wrapped gifts.
Did my paperwork. I did 6 jobs last month. Six! After putting in the money for my IRA I'll barely make $1000 on the business this year. Neat!
Ate lunch.
Found cute tags for the gifts.
Checked sites, the usual youtube.
Did more reading, almost done with this section of the wheel of time.

While eating dinner and looking through one of the stack of catalogs I had I saw an "Elf" item and thought "don't I have that movie from somewhere?"

I did!

I was waiting until it was a more festive time and while it may still be fall the temps are dropping and families are out together shopping so I watched it.

Got ready for tomorrow, made my calls and didn't reach anyone but book guy where I am going Tuesday. Not tomorrow because I'm taking kitty number 3 in to the vet.

Mon:
We'll get right into the work, work, work I was doing all day long. Just working and working. Not writing chapter 16, no, just working. On things. Like I did one more upgrade test, and as I suspected, it wasn't the proxy causing the icon not to show up. So I added the notes to the action and closed it.

Had the usual tablet meeting, nothing too exciting there.

Had lunch, and went over to poke at the tablet more. I did write a real bug, and added some bugs to the list relating to translation.

Left a few minutes early to get to the vet, and showed him the movie of Oliver's Saturday attack. He says it probably is asthma. The steroid for it is quite cheap. If I lived in Canada. Here it's 10x as expensive. $30 in Canada. You can do that math yourself. Hopefully after some time he won't need as much as he will in the beginning. Oh, and he has to have a kitty face mask on to breathe it in which I know he'll just love.

He said not to get anything until the bloodwork comes back, but the X-ray showed what he was looking for. Silly Oliver.

Came back here, did the usual Saturday stuff. Did the ears for my character I'm working on, and watched the tutorial for the hands.

Talked to a lady for 20 minutes about gmail, and told another lady having password issues I would call her back tomorrow because that's what she requested. Tomorrow of course is more fun with Bookman.

Tues:
And what fun I had with Bookman. Oh, I can't even say how much it was that big. Another 130 pages or so to put in, and his printer was insisting it was out of toner (I had just refilled it) and there was the usual "it wasn't my fault" whining and such that I just absolutely love. Love. Love.

Not much to speak of about work, I certainly didn't work on this

[[image file="2018-11/lady11_13.png" alt="no arms lady" ]]

If I had, I would tell you I made this with the "face technique" as I call it. Remember a bit ago when I said the tutorial I was watching made the face by sort of tracing it in 3D, building up the eyes and mouth and filling it in from there. I wondered if the same couldn't be done with a whole person. I'm fairly happy with it so far. Of course she needs, uh, arms, and feet, and a head, but it's coming along.

Did some more RemoteUI testing, for the lauphs.

Went to see Bookman, as above. Got home about 7:00.

No Tinker.

All three cats always come running when I get home because they get a snack. (And they are very lovable)

No Tinker.

Well I have a laptop to refurb and calls (5, yes five! WTH) to make so I can't really look.

I'm on the phone with iCloud password lady (I hate you) for 45 minutes and about 20 minutes in I open the door. I was going to have the breezeway door open, hoping he came back in at night, and just block off the cat door so the other cats don't get out. Maybe put a bed out there he can sleep in. Both cats are yelling at something outside, and I open the door and there's Tinker. They were very hissy and growly at him but that died down.

How did he get out?

Well, I've closed off access to the breezeway until I know more. I have to break him of the habit of running outside. A squirt of water when I open the door? It doesn't seem loose, I don't think he got it open himself. I'm sure he was around in the morning. I don't get it.

Silly Tinker. But I'm glad he hung around and came back.

Called others, going to York I guess tomorrow, something about email.

Didn't reach 2.

Put the SSD in the laptop and got it going.

Now it's 9:00. Yay.

Oh, and I booked Ray on Friday because my parent's aren't going to be around. So another thing to look forward to I guess. I offered to connect to his machine and look at whatever his issue is that he can't seem to explain over the phone but no, I guess it requires my presence. My magnificent aura must shine round him, and my sparkling personality make manifest my brilliance.

I don't know it's late, I hate everything, I'm going to bed. There, see what you did?

Wed:
Woke up to snow, you know I love it. Ground was really covered with it.

Spent the day working, and not working on the 3D model. If I had, I would show it to you, like this.

[[image file="2018-11/lady11_14.png" alt="complete lady" ]]

She has a head! Heads are hard. But the concept is proven, I guess? I was able to do the whole thing with just points and lines. Look at the face though, the lips are really giving me trouble. From the side they look just fine.

[[image file="2018-11/lipsside.png" alt="side lips" ]]

But from the front you want to run away

[[image file="2018-11/lipsfront.png" alt="lips front" ]]

Well, the whole thing needs work I suppose, but as a first human modeled, it's not too bad!

I still did some actual work though.
I mean I only did real, actual work!

Then left for second work. Actually stopped at home to call York, see if they were still having the issue. No one answered. (Spoiler, she was getting her hair done for three hours?)

So I went over there. Somehow the frontier settings were correct as specified by the website. But they didn't work. I turned SSL off and then it worked. Maybe it's TLS 1.0 or something? I don't know. At least that worked.

Got back, traffic wasn't too bad.

They've picked up all the pipes, the water stuff must be almost over but they're digging a huge hole at the end of the street.

Got a bunch of stuff delivered. The SSds, the all in one, the batteries, some x-mas gifts, and the enclosures. The all in one went on the breezeway, I'm glad I locked it off or I probably wouldn't have had a cat again.

Called everyone, booked two for Saturday. Took the all in one apart and put the SSD into it.

Ordered another gift, I'm actually in good shape, I just need stuff for my mother now. Maybe something else for dad…

Hint, hint.

Should be a new build for the RemoteUI tomorrow, probably nothing has been done with it really.

Thurs:
As far as I can tell, nothing was. At least I should have been focused more on it. I did do the driver test now that the driver had been signed. It would print from notepad but not from Acrobat Reader. Wha? I sent them the results and we'll see what they say.

What else did I do? I did some small amount of remoteUI testing, found the serial numbers for all the lab devices because apparently they need them sometimes for inventory and I say do things once not over and over so I added them to the map. The usual meetings for today.

I did not do any 3D work, and if I had, I would show you this:

[[image file="2018-11/screen-shot-2018-11-15-at-4.54.44-pm.png" alt="more naked lady" ]]

I made some improvements to the face, but I'm still not sure about it. Something is still wrong but you think I can figure out what? Because I can't.

[[image file="2018-11/screen-shot-2018-11-15-at-4.55.01-pm.png" alt="better or worse face" ]]

After work it started to snow, 5-8 inches expected? No thank you. Is it mid-January or not even December? I haven't even really raked leaves yet, there were not enough down to pick up. It's crazy. You should see the radar, it's solid green.

Went to deliver the laptop. Did so.
Took the alternate way home, the express way going the other way seemed a bit slow.

Talked to a lady for 50 minutes about scanning and her fitbit off brand product doesn't have a PC app so she bought a bluetooth adapter for nothing.

Talked someone with a very slow win10 laptop through deleting an account.

Finished up the clothes (at least some of them) for the lady.

[[image file="2018-11/gravik_female_not-done.png" alt="now she can be in polite society" ]]

Made one more appointment for Saturday, down the street at horse guy to set up his fitbit. Honestly it can't be that hard.

Looking to the future it's work again tomorrow, go to my parent's house and drop stuff off, to the bank, shopping, then over to laptop "can't explain my problem" guy at 5:30.

No Sean I guess, at least no news yet.

Then working a bunch Saturday. Looks like the snow is going to stick around.

Got my batteries, the smoke detector / burger alarm is happy.

Got x-mas gifts in.

Got ideas from Mom, didn't have time to look them over.

Ordered the cat's inhalers from a Canadian pharmacy, had to email the check and perception papers. We'll see how it works. 93.27 for the one inhaler and 3 of the other type. He said getting it here in the US would be $130 for just the one so that seems like a good deal. He wants me to report back about how it goes, he's never used the place before so I'm the guinea pig. Which I knew how to spell right away, no looking it up or anything.

And it's almost 10 and I still have iMac guy to email because he's complaining about spam. What do you want me to do about it? Moron.

Don't get buried, have a good Thanksgiving as it'll be over by the time we meet again. See you then.
