2010-08-01:

Sadly, my grandmother continues to worsen, so I don't think it'll be a very happy August for us.

But you want to hear about the date! The big date! The big weird date! The biggest, weirdest date ever!

So I'm home quite earlier then expected because no moving freezer and no grandma to go see. So I get ready and have a bunch of time before I have to leave. I have a guy just down the street I did some work for that needed... well, anyway, I went over there and then came back. So I have about 40 minutes before I have to leave so I'm trying to figure out what to do. So I open my email, thinking "she won't have mailed me this late, but what the heck." And it turns out she did. She said "my number is XXX call me, I have a very strange question to ask you."

Well, turns out she's forgotten or it was decided, I forget which, that right now is when her cousin's girlfriend is getting rid of her furniture that she is giving to my date. So "would I be willing to come help her move some furniture before we go out to eat." There are two possible responses to this query and here are the likely responses by her:

No- scratched off the "would I want to have babies with this man" list immediately.
Yes- okay, free help, and he still pays for my dinner tonight! Score!

But honestly I like helping people (just not too much) so it's no big deal, and I figure it might take some of the edge off to be doing something rather then just sitting and talking. So I meet her at her house, and it's in the city, the place I hate to go, and there's cars parked on both sides of the street (isn't that illegal?) so I pass her house and turn down the street next to it and park. I'm walking towards her house and totally botch my perception check to see her, so I'm climbing the steps and looking at the nameplates on the mailbox to make sure I'm in the right place. She pops up out of a hammock stretched across her porch and scares me! So I'm off to a great start at impressing this girl. Strike one for me. She offers me a drink, and say's she's drinking "blah blah blah" which I guess is probably alcoholic. I inquire as such, and she says yes. I say no thank you, but she offers me water, so that's fine. She calls over there and they're ready for us.

So she drives us over to her cousin's house that's not too far away and like the second light we come to is red, and she just blows though it. She's like, 'did I just run that red light?' and I'm like, "Yup, you sure did!" Strike one for her.

So the stuff is mostly loaded, but there are a couple of other pieces to load in, which we do. We drive back to her place.  We unload the stuff into her place, which of course is on the upper floor. I meet her roommate, Andrew.

All this time we're chatting away, and she seems really nice! We finish that up, and finally get to dinner at like 8:30.
And this is the part I'm totally proud of, I actually hold a conversation with this girl! She's kinda talkative, which is fine, but we ask each other stuff, and talk, and it's not that tough. Now, I don't have anything to compare this date to, but for me, it's a true triumph, not only in the fact that I've done something that, in 33 years of life I've never actually done before, but that I don't totally turn her off and she ends the date early. We like a lot of the same things, like science fiction and anime, and though I wish she had a better job (so does she, to be honest) I wouldn't mind seeing her again.

We go back to her apartment, and we're kinda wondering what to do next, so we just start straightening stuff up, and moving all this furniture around. Which I think works in my favor, I mean, isn't she, even in the back of her mind, thinking, "so is this what it would be like to live with this guy? He's being helpful, and he's nice, etc." Maybe? So I leave at about 11:00. She thanks me for a nice time, and for my help, and I ask if I can see her again, and she says yes. So I'm doing game friday this week, I'll ask her if she wants to go out Saturday and do something, her choice this time. We'll see if she really meant yes or meant "yes, now go away and never see me again, so there."

I was fine saturday, did my three jobs, moved freezer, went to Sean's and did game, told my story. No problem. Today I woke up all sore from all that stuff I did. Then, Neil was in town again so we did three games of Laser Tag, about an hour, and now I'm sore all over! But that was fun too.

Had another ton of calls to answer, got them done. Now I am off to eat a huge salad, because all I had for lunch today was leftover chinese food from Sean's, and dinner was a thing of coldstone ice cream after the game. So a salad is just the ticket right now.
