2016-03-25:

Fri:
Thought I was getting better. No such luck. Spent the day blowing my nose again.

And some work related stuff.

Put the latest spec document stuff into the test cases.
Got a start on a few dropbox test cases.
Finished up the button hunt now that google works again, so now all buttons or at least most I hope are documented if they don't flash.

Had the alerts meeting, and a brownie and a doughnut. Oh wait, that wasn't work related.

Went to the bank, got my package with the two new cameras I ordered, and saw my parents.

Got home and went to bed.

Another rough night.

Sat:
Feeling a little better, that nighttime medicine stuff always does some weird things to me. Probably not used to the alcohol. As before, breathing was a problem if I wasn't sitting up, but I finally managed to lay down and get some shut eye for some consecutive hours.

Checked my morning websites and had a kitty, so I guess I'm stuck on my computer until making ready to leave.

So it turned out the senior wellness stuff wasn't the exam and shots, and they couldn't do it then, so I have to take him back. Sigh.

Stayed in bed until I had to leave at 1:00, did that job. She said the blue screens stopped, so I checked the thing over.

Then went back to bed!

Took some naps, watched a bit of anime, some of my weekly shows, and then did some more sleeping.

Sleeping, that's the stuff right there, isn't it?

Sun:
As much as I preferred staying in bed all day, I had three appointments to do today. Got up about 9:00, feeling much better than I had the day before. I'm still not at 100%, but hopefully a good night's rest will put that much closer.

Isn't right after you've been sick just the best time? You can breathe, you don't feel like crap, you just don't take anything for granted anymore.

Went out at 11:00 for my first one, the ?? one, because of course no one can articulate anything. His actual issue? Opening up tons of tabs and hanging up firefox. Yup, that's my job now, forcing a browser to close and reopening it. So technical.

Came back, ate lunch.

The next guy's problem was a bit more involved. When I got there the machine was stuck in some sort of loop. Turn it on, it immediately went into trying to "repair" which as we all know is totally worthless. Looking this up I found a way to turn this off, and was surprised to find windows actually telling me what the exact issue was that it couldn't boot. Really! Now why this can't be the default, and a "would you like to try automatic repair" be an option on this screen, only an MS software engineer can tell you.

Anyway, issue was a missing file in the system32/drivers folder. So I copied it from the boot flash drive I had. And then it listed another missing. and then another. and then another.

Finally it stopped complaining about that… and just BSOD on boot. Marvelous.

So I brought it home. It's trying to figure out how big the user folder is so I can put it onto the flash drive or not. Which I see now is silly. I'll just put it onto my HD and freaking copy it piecemeal if I have to. Or just share the folder and copy it back that way. It's at least 50GB so I have no idea what this guy is doing with the machine to have that much data.
Anyway, then I'll reload the whole thing, because that's the answer to every windows problem.

Watched a little more anime before leaving for my 5:00. Sold, and got paid for, two more auctions worth of games. So I boxed them up.

Thought it was going to be the worst one, but no, her main problem was running three (yes, three) antivirus products on the machine at once. And then she wondered why it was going so slowly and not loading anything. Tediously took all of them off and gave her the software she did need to run the machine properly. Done.

When I got back the file copy was done, so I started the install of the machine.

It was Squeaker's "birthday" today (the day I got him) so he got yummy food and some home grown catnip. I think Tinker enjoyed it more though, he was rolling around in it.

No calls today, slightly happy about that.

My goodness, updating Win10 is almost as annoying as 7. That didn't take long. It just keeps on going.

And here's me, going to bed early. I've been very nearly recovered which surprised me
… wait a second.

With ten minutes to go I get a phone call. Guess I have a job for tomorrow. Getting some cameras on the web, for the lady that wanted to do that in the house, if you'll recall, that had no internet access. This is in her own place so we'll see how it goes. Probably badly.

As I was saying, I've been pretty much at 100% but another nice night of sleep won't go wrong by me.

Mon:
Ugh.

Don't get me wrong, I'm feeling much better. There was a bit of wakey wake time last night, and my ears feel a bit stuffed up, but hardly any more than the normal nose blowing. No, my ugh is for what comes later.

Work was fine. Started pass 3, got partially through the google service. Wrote up some bugs, pretty normal stuff.

Ate dinner there, drove 25 minutes to someone who wasn't even there. Apparently the cameras couldn't be installed because she got "the wrong ones" as I later learned in her phone message to me. Which I didn't get. You know, being at work and all.
So thanks for that, I love nothing more than having my time wasted.

Back here I rushed through getting the PC done so I could "drop it back off." He was there so I did that. Of course he used Windows Live Mail which was not cooperating in the least. You know, you move thunderbird folder from one machine to another, thunderbird opens just as you left it. Address book, email, the whole thing. Windows live? Well, to begin with, it keeps the address book hidden away in some protected folder you can't even see normally. That's smart, right?

It didn't help she had 15,000 message. Learn how to use folders or, I don't know, throw something away once in a while?

Finally got back here at 8:00. Made my phone calls. Camera lady is my (only) appointment for Saturday, as I'm having my taxes done in the afternoon.

Booked tomorrow, a cleanout, and Thursday, a place I was just at, they've screwed it up again. She can't get online and was complaining about messages and it didn't actually boot up right. Just got done talking to her. At 9:00.

So yeah, bedtime. Hope to get an entire night's sleep tonight for once.

No, no, I don't need to write or look at my daily websites, do anything around the house like laundry, or anything like that. It's fine!

Tues:
A little better today, I guess. At least my time wasn't wasted by driving around, it was simply dripped away by waiting for mbam to run.

Went in to work, did work! Got just about all of scan to google done, and it seems a bit, well, unreliable. Like it's kinda slow to get started, and sometimes just hangs up while trying to do something. I've written a bunch of bugs up about it. Speaking of bugs, I need only four more to reach 500. Nice milestone, yes? By the end of the month there will be 3000 bugs in the database, and more than 500 of them will be mine.

Nice.

Feeling okay, ears were mostly clear but they've gotten a bit plugged up again, so we're not at 100% just yet.

Then the cleanout after work. My goodness PCs are slow. A solid hour just to run MBam, and it only found the one thing. Oh well.

Four calls, but two were hang ups and one just needed her DSL box reset. The first was Margret asking about her iPhoto backup. Yes, you have one. Didn't reach her.

Took delivery of the laptop for the car guy. Nasty fan noise when I first turned it on but it's quieted down. Finished checking yesterdays websites while it updated.

Didn't reach him. Ah well. Perhaps tomorrow.

Finished off today's websites, did the laundry, time for bed.

Supervisor is going to be gone Thursday and Friday, and it is odd we don't get Friday off, but whatever I guess. Just not an important enough holiday? My hire buddy said Kodak gave him the friday off usually. Weird.

Wed:
Not much better today, time wise. Got through scan to google test matrix, the service acted a little better today, oddly.

Then moved on to print from google. Had to import the bypass tray tests I had put into copy originally because whoever had it last didn't bother to do that. Thanks, person!
Had the meeting at 10:00, nothing really relevant.

The laptop guy does seem to agree with my plan to use the new, better laptop in place of his old, crappy laptop. My goodness, getting the files off it's worse than I thought- it still uses a PATA HD. UGh.

Finally got all his stuff moved over. Ended up plugging the thing into the Mac and just sharing the folder and copying it that way. Windows was being a little snot and complaining it wouldn't let me access certain folders. Yeah, really? How about that access now?

Went out to the outreach place instead of dropping that off for him, he was complaining about one machine not booting and giving messages and all sorts of things.

Booted it fine in safe mode. mbam found nothing. Booted it another six times, worked great. Sooooo yeah, that happened.

Back here, made a phone call, talked to my favorite Mac user, twice even, and worked on the laptop.

Nasty weather, markets are down, but tomorrow is sure to be a bright new day.

New build tomorrow, going to look at any P1-2 open issues I have (which can't be many) and keep plugging away at Google.

Thurs:
Which I almost did! New build, so mostly going though the open issues I needed to make sure were resolved. The usual cocktail of writing a new bug to replace an old one. Got far above 500, so there's that, right? I did all the bugs, not just the p1-p2, because I'm the master of me and I do what I want. So there. But there's still a list of them for the next release so I guess when you write the most, you have the most to verify are fixed. That's what we in the biz call "a double edged sword."

And my goodness, some of the screens are all whacked out! Buttons moved, whole elements shoved around. How in the world did they manage that?

Anyway, got back into the new stuff in the afternoon, then about 4:10 google stopped cooperating all together and wouldn't show the files. So that was that.

I had forgotten the page with the directions so I came home to get it. Ate dinner, listened to my one message. Good thing I did, she wasn't going to be there until after 6:00. Yipes.

So I finished up the laptop, tried to install ontime onto it. No good. Sorry bud.

Went out. Just a cleanout, and it had a pretty nasty virus too. Had to use sfc to put the corrupted file back. Also, why does firefox keep going while edge bombs out because of DNS file corruption? What is it doing that it needs that file and firefox doesn't?

Oh, and of course it was the famous "one entry in the registry and your antivirus is turned off." Glad that's a thing, MS. Oh wait, what's the opposite of that?

Came back, saw I had five more calls! AAARRGG. I was only away three minutes!

Started calling people back. Car guy wanted to come over so I finished up at 8:30 just before he arrived. He left about 9:00, I got his onTime thing on his older, older laptop, so that worked out fine.

Did my dishes, wrote this up, and it'll soon be time for bed. I didn't even make any money today, why did I bother?

Weekend plans- of course the shopping tomorrow as usual. Bank with my four checks, but one is for the laptop so it's a big one.

Then saturday, one job in the morning (camera lady again, maybe she'll actually be there this time?) and doing my taxes in the afternoon. Probably have my mother cut my hair too. Would have like it to be a little warmer, but it's getting pretty bad.

Then Sunday is easter, and by the way happy spring, forgot to mention that. Of course it's been nasty, and there's been snow. Because Rochester.

So I'll be at my parents most of the day, doing those Jesus reborn games like finding eggs and the egg toss. Oh yeah, Jesus was a monster at egg toss, ask anyone.

So have a great weekend everyone. Have a good visit with family, and eat some chocolate, and don't hit any bunnies with your car.

See you next time.
