2009-10-19:

Wary, didn't expect much of a fight. After all, he's been the king so long he thought me unwilling to battle further. :-) Good to get back in the swing of things. Which means my first stop of the day is the library. Well, okay, it was to deposit money, but that was the drive through so I didn't actually "stop". Then shopping, back home. My only scheduled job was a BSOD on boot. Now, like my mortal enemy, the hideous shark, the BSOD can be subtle, biting, and disastrous. However, this story has a happy ending. While initially his Dell XP disk didn't recognize his HD (though my Live Boot CD did, so I knew it still worked) after messing (and my messing I mean fixing) his BIOS settings to have more sane values, it picked it up. Passed the chkdsk test but still didn't boot. Luckily, unlike the Dell XPS I had recently worked on that showed no "repair" option, this XP home disk did indeed show it. I ran said repair functionality, and the machine actually came back. And that's a success story I don't often get to tell with BSs. Amazingly, he actually had a backup drive, which even more amazingly, was working. So even if I had to reload it from scratch, his data was safe. Whew. I come out looking like the hero, and all's well. I needed a victory like that.... Came home, ate lunch about 2:00 (ugh) and called Ellen (who I would never compare to my mortal enemy, the hideous shark). Told her about the amazing new technique called "dragging the corner of a window to make it bigger or smaller". I know, I know, she knows things I don't, etc. etc. Went over to give work shop guy the work shop book he had somehow deleted. (I made him a printable form in Appleworks to fill out as a receipt, which he somehow erased) Good thing I keep everything, managed to pull the original off Backup DVD #23. So he was happy again. Came back home. I've been reading, last night and for awhile today, this great site called geeks dream girl which was created by a geek girl to help other geeks with dating. Chock full of good stuff, (unlike my mortal enemy) and how my inner Hollow was bloodied. I'm pretty sure now that the person I've been since middle school was the Hollow, and the "real" me is finally taking steps to become the King again, and make the Hollow the horse for awhile. And you know what happens next? That's right, Ichigo puts on the mask and gets even more powerful. (I know, you have no idea what I'm talking about, but trust me, in Bleach terms this makes perfect sense) I'm giving myself this week to make sure my wanting to start dating isn't some knee jerk reaction (OMG my crush said we're too different, woe, woe) and get my feelings settled down, and then start casting my line. Heck, Rochester's population is approximately 219,773, meaning there are close to 100,000 girls out there. There's got to be one geeky girl my age in that kind of sample space. Penciled a comic. Only two calls today, so made both of them, plus one from yesterday. The first one I called I had called yesterday, she wasn't getting online. She was getting a self assigned IP address, meaning her machine asked the RR equipment "what address should I use" but didn't get a reply. So I figured it must be the RR box. Well, she said Time Warner was there but they tested the box and it was fine. So she asked if I could come tonight seeing as she was having a new furnace put in tomorrow. Figuring I had nothing better to do on a monday night (sigh) and the fact it seemed I was incorrect last night, I said, sure, what the heck. She was only 15 minutes away. Well, of course putting in a new ethernet card did nothing, it just did the same thing. So were they lying? I hooked it up via USB (lucky I had the drivers with me, she didn't have the setup CD) and that worked. Nice job, Time Warner. I love doing your job for you, you know? Also her CPU fan was totally busted. I mean the plastic had just snapped, and it wasn't spinning anymore. How did that machine even run without a CPU fan? So I put in a new one of those too. No calls by the time I got home. But two emails about what game(s) we're doing this weekend. Seems next weekend is Rudicon over at RIT, so I'll probably be helping Sean over there at least one day. HEY, now THERE'S a place to meet geek girls! Hummmmmmm....... Well, collage age geek girls. Crap, that's no good. Oh well. Two scheduled for tomorrow, but pretty far apart. Which takes us to 8:30. What exciting activity shall I peruse next? Current Mood: BANKAI! (See, the perfect girl for me would not only totally understand why I said that, based on the above, but find it totally funny and probably mime Ichigo while shouting it)
