2014-06-05:

Fri:
Couple of jobs, one in the morning was a win8 machine totally taken over. Thanks to not being able to get into safe mode easily it took me a little while longer then usual. I finally got to a command prompt and just renamed all the directories of the crap, then booted it, renamed them back and uninstalled everything. Ugh. Have to find an easier way to work on them.

Then two in the afternoon. The earlier one just some router issues for a guy from 10 days ago. Updated his firmware, we'll see if it holds. It may be going bad.

And various things for my 3:00, including moving a DSL router, talking about a new mac, that sort of thing.

Then proofreading.

Sat:
Just more proofreading, most of the day.

Went to Sean's at 4:30 as normal, didn't get too much Demongate done, but we did play a round of Tiger Territories, and watched two episodes of Teen Titans. The food took longer to prepare then Stan had anticipated, resulting in the delay. It was pretty good though!

Sun:
Finished the reading of book 4, so I'm ready to incorporate my mother's fixes and get a PDF made.

Cut the front lawn.

No calls today, very few over the weekend. Got up to page 36/113 in my latest read over of No One To Blame.

Mon:
Shopping as normal. Got to buy the big bag of dry food this week, and came home to my annual ant invasion. Sealed that off, then ate lunch.

Did the paperwork, sent in my estimated tax for the last two months, and did more proofreading. Up to page 80 of 120.

One job, a BSOD for XP. It didn't say unmountable boot volume, but it crashed very early in the process. I ran chkdsk anyway, and that seemed to solve it. 7 year old machine. Generally straightened it up, and came back here.

Some calls today, but didn't reach everyone. Only one job for tomorrow. 10:00. I forgot to call the person I got the RAM for, which came today, so I'll call him in the afternoon and see if I can get over there.

Tues:
A lot of the morning was wasted because of my stupid something. The job was for 10:00, so I got there at 10:00 after 20 minutes of driving. I thought I was going to #15 so I rang the bell, no answer. I waited until 10:20, no answer. I came home. I couldn't call the person, I didn't have the number written down, I was just picking a system up to upgrade, why would I need to have the number? I am dumb.

Message on the machine about where I was. I called him back.

It was #25, not #15. Where did I get 15 from?

So I drove back there, got the machine, and brought it back here.

Scrounged up some RAM for it so I could at least install Win7 like he wanted, though I'm not sure about running it on an XP era machine. Max RAM on this machine seems to be 2GB as that's he biggest chip they make, so that's what I ordered for him. Well, I don't have to use it.

Called someone after lunch, not there.

So I finished my proofread of book 5! I am now… once again… half way done. I just need to have the first 3 books read to me by my sweet electronically created voice, and I will be satisfied that no more changes will need to be done. For the moment. I'm sure there are still things that have gotten by me.

Thought about what the next 6 books would be, building off the mysteries left in book 5. I did this mainly so I could write the epilog I use to introduce the next book. I wasn't sure if I wanted to write more books, but what else do I have to do? Video games? Okay, I would like to play all those steam games I got like two years ago, and finish the Skyrim quest I was making.
And I want to do more 3d printing.

Okay, so there's stuff I want to do. Anyway, I thought about what to write and got through a very, very rough sketch for the next two books.

Lots to do tomorrow, though I doubt it will make up for the last two days. Nice out, rainy in the morning but it cleared up and was quite nice in the afternoon.

Wed:
What's this, more enjoyment? Allow the sharing.

So the 9:30 was a 1.7 Ghz Celeron running with a CRT monitor at 800x600 resolution. Sheesh, how do you do anything on that machine? Their trouble was the outlook site not wanting to cooperate with firefox. Was this due to the fact just bringing up a website took the entire processing speed of the computer? Perhaps.

But chrome did better, so I left them with that.

The next one was installing the RAM and 10.5 on the ancient eMac the guy was using. Of course my disk has suffered from bit rot and wouldn't work. I took the machine home, burned a new disk, and hoped I might be able to get it back to him? No, burning dual layer disks is soooo slow and the update failed a few times, until I downloaded 10.5.8 manually and installed it. Oh well.

Went out at 3:00 for a cleanout, she was giving an old laptop to her granddaughter, so I took off her stuff and made it presentable.

Found a laptop on my porch with a messed up SSD. A PC won't read it, but my Mac will, which I've actually seen before. He just said to get a new one, his was almost full anyway, so I'm doing that.

My Buddy called, wanted his yucky animals back. I said it's been more then a year, how about I just bring you everything, and he agreed. So I'll be going there Friday morning and getting my porch back! At least that corner of it. Happy days.

Worked on the plot for the next books, I think I got a neat little quest line going for all the girls. It got too late to finish the epilog for book 5, but I know what I want it to be. It'll kick off the next 5 books, making the total Demongate series 11 books long. Take that, Robert Jordan. Okay, so your series was 14 books, and they were way longer and more convoluted then mine. You were 10x the writer I will ever be, but at least I might finish mine before I die! (Too soon?)

Thurs:
Another slow day. Just the one appointment, taking the eMac back. At least that was accomplished without too much drama.

I called some of the people that had called me, as a bunch of people did, but got back to no-one. So I just did more proofing. I did a call from the guy having trouble with his router, so I did go down there. Also he was having some issues with his weird USB->parallel->parallel hybrid cable thing, so I ordered him a PCI parallel card and hope that will solve it. It's to use an old laser printer, so at least that I can get behind.

Made calls. Filled the slot for tomorrow, answered some questions, and that was that.

So tomorrow it's Buddy's stuff, installing RAM, a cleanout, then home for lunch, a guy with what seems like a faulty laptop power supply, and then over to see my parents.

Should be fun.

At 10:00, as I write this, I'm up to 50/177 pages proofed of book 2.5 so I'll do a bit more of that and then retire for the evening.

Game at RIT Saturday, Infinite Vector, which will probably go as well as usual. No appointments yet Saturday, but I may call the one person I didn't reach tonight.

Another week gone. Almost half way through the year. See you all next week.
