2024-10-31:
Fri:
Mostly just working on the dungeon stuff for next season.
Didn't know if we would have time to start it after the big fight.
Probably not, at the speed the game usually moves at.
No more haul yet.
Some developers came to talk about a project for 7/25. Uh, there's
no statement of work, no specs, it's 9 months away, what exactly do
you want from me?
Shopping. Saw my parents.
Then back for game. Didn't go exactly as planned, my big
fight at the end got short circuited when someone activated the bomb
sitting there way too early, but events were set in motion for
season 2. I sort of wanted it to be more of a victory, than just
"boom" as it was his last ditch desperation move but he didn't get
to do anything. Oh well, plans fall apart, planning is essential.
Sat:
Did the cleaning.
Checked sites.
Worked on Mizzy's gift. Humm, the mix has large rocks in it. Large
for my application that is. I guess that's how it works. I
substituted them with sand. We'll see how it works.
Ate lunch.
Job at 2:00. That was a slog. It kept BSODing, which is a verb now.
I had to eliminate the usual suspects, as his mcafee expired who
knows how long ago and mbam found 90 things. It wasn't crashing in
safe mode. Of course you can't uninstall in safe mode because MS
knows how to program things! Finally I updated the BIOS as suggested
for the BSOD reason. Ran 20 minutes after that. Boom. Done. Why did
it even need to be done? I don't get it.
Did the Sunday readings. Yeah yeah, but I want to finish the book
tomorrow, so it's right into it in the morning.
Worked on the cover for the book. I think I got something I'm happy
with.
Now I just have to finish it. Thankfully most of it is already
formatted. Thanks, past me! We've got this on time for sure.
Parents came for movie.
Then did Xbox.
Sun:
Writing. Finished up the book! Put the text into the scribus
document, and looked it over. Have to do a check or two, so it won't
get "done" by tonight but tomorrow or the next day for sure.
Sean says no game this week, so I have two weeks to get the System
book done finally. That would be fine with me.
Checked sites, did a few other things, nothing really great.
One call. Just a few minutes on the phone. Nothing major.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Oh and the cement stuff seems to have worked. I'm painting it blue,
I think that'll look fine. I just have to get some paint, for the
main part, though maybe I could paint them with a brush? Actually I
probably could. Huh. I must have some gray paint somewhere.
Sent mom my current xmas list. Don't judge us I can already hear
christmas music on the radio. Shhhhh can't you hear it? You can,
can't you?
Mon:
Good thing I checked it over several times. I kept finding words
like
this.
I had to fix. But it's done as it's going to get. Anyway. Got the
latest OneDrive, so I did another 80 minute test. No issues. Don
wanted it loaded on one of the little machines. The 150 page job
took 28 minutes. So glad our machines are so powerful.
Had a meeting with Joe about XDM and IdP. I contributed. A little.
News in Apple land. And I'm not just talking about the M4 that's
coming out this week. iMac first I guess. I'm looking forward to the
mini. Anyway. Several days ago I found a sprouted seed in an apple.
Yes, from the fridge! Weird. So of course I planted it. Nothing
Friday but today when I went in, it had 2 little leaves! Neat!
Voted. There was a line, I was surprised. It moved quickly enough
but there was still a line when I left so it must have been constant
all day. How about that?
Then to good will. Got a few goodies, including a cool Mac
collectable.
Came back here. Checked sites.
Uploaded the book and ordered all the copies I need of both.
Was going to do some Shantae but Sean wanted to do Xbox.
At least I got some more of the map explored.
Tues:
New Mac Mini! So tiny.
Did writing, got almost a whole chapter done. Did a USB test that
took half an hour, at the request of the developer on the case of
the bug I wrote about the device not doing the job at all. Would you
accept a half an hour scan job? I wouldn't.
Got a good haul. Saw the guy pushing the cart towards the place.
Went back and found more stuff in there. Huh. Glad I checked.
Otherwise just thinking about Minis, which I might want and how to
put it somewhere a cat can't lay on it. Tinker has gotten into that
spot now, it used to be only Oliver.
Went to second job. Got her trackpad all fixed up, finally. Finally.
Came back here, checked sites. More thinking about mini, and
monitors, and cables I need. It wouldn't ship until next week
anyway, it's fine. Don't have to order it today.
Two calls! Double the fun! The first lady says her ipad isn't taking
touches for the pin. Wonderful. But she has a second one, we can
probably just wipe it and / or move her account over to it. Not too
far from home, I think I can bring my parent's their stuff and get
there by 4:30.
The second is way out by Sean's. Registry issue at boot. Always a
pleasure, MS. Never change.
Made the orders. I have a few ideas for the space.
Xbox with the others.
Wed:
Couple of meetings today, one of my very own.
Let's see, there was the JBA length test, which may be scaling down.
The customer just wants one thing, and we were going nuts trying to
do all things. Maybe just giving them what they want, and not
breaking stuff, is the way to go?
Next was OneDrive at I think the actual customer site? The original
one? I don't know. Didn't help much but I was there!
Then my meeting with Joe and Tim getting some answers (but not
many!!!) on the next test. He's not sure of how some things well be
done either. Uh, whoops I guess?
Otherwise did a little writing. Not much, finished the previous
chapter and started the next. And I thought I could get this done in
the next two weeks? Ha!
Did a setup for the color test, printed the "before" sheets.
Straightened up my Ethernet cables with a box I found.
Went to give food to my parents, then out to iPad lady. Ugh. Of
course we don't know any passwords. Her iPad I guess uses the
fingerprint thing (why? She's 93 years old and lives alone. Is she
afraid someone is going to steal it?) which upon reboot needs some
different code than the usual iPad password? Huh? Of course it can't
be reset externally. You can only wipe the whole thing. Of course
she has 2 factor on all accounts (and doesn't know her email
password, or apple password) so everything goes to the iPad we
can't get into.
I did finally stumble across her apple password in the
disorganized mess that was her "filing system."
So I saw she had a fairly recent backup, and started to wipe it out.
The software was going to take 7 hours to download.
I drove home, plugged it in to my Mac, and it downloaded in, no lie,
3 minutes. Frontier? YOU SUCK. How does she even still have DSL
service? Ugh.
So it's all restored now. Only took 2 hours there and another few
minutes here.
I'll bring it back to her tomorrow. No calls today.
Checked sites, had dinner.
Discovered whisky. Not the drink. It's an easy way to run windows
games on Mac. I tried Shantae on it. Runs perfectly! I don't have to
power on my huge PC anymore just to play that game. Neat. Got a
little further.
Then went to bed.
Thurs:
The usual meetings today. Except Ladan was there so they basically
talked about money and Versalink stuff. Not our stuff. Whatever.
Made more prints for the color test.
Then worked on the book. Got a chapter done and started the next.
10,000 more words or so to go. I can see the end from here actually,
I think it'll be just about right. Great!
Dropped off the iPad, came back here. Checked sites, had dinner.
No kiddies yet, but it's only 5:30.
I did get one group.
One call, weekend is basically shot. 12:00 over by Grandma's old
house. Unspecified issues. Then at 4:00 (a half hour away) the reg
guy. Then at 6:00 (down the street) is Sean for game. I guess I can
go home between those two, get something done.
Otherwise looking ahead we see not much in store tomorrow. Oh, got
lots more food so I'll bring plenty to my parents. More writing
probably. Bank. Shopping. See my parents.
Sunday the reading, painting Mizzy's gift. Sculpting the last piece?
That's probably all I'll have time for.
Stuck in Shantae near the end. A timed dungeon? Ugh.
