2024-06-20:
Fri:
Pretty much as expected, worked on D8.0 stuff. Made another attempt
at fixing the one device I use, no luck.
Emailed the L3 mailing list, "hey any ideas about fixing this device
it looks like one of you guys broke because [name] was the last
person to have it signed out?" No rely yet.
Almost got through the D8.0 stuff but the developer guy started
messing around with the back end, so I couldn't log in anymore. This
is the problem with having such complex systems you need experts to
have any chance of understanding them, and they are so big and
complex and expensive (don't forget expensive) to run we can only
afford the one. It's madness.
Did the shopping, saw my parents.
Came back, they made their characters and we played out scene one.
Shaking off that rust, hope they like what I have planned.
Sat:
Cleaned up the house before dad arrived.
More reading.
Cooked up lunch.
Then movie. The latest Matrix movie, as he hadn't seen it yet. Still
just as good as the first time I watched it.
Reading.
No xbox, went to bed early.
Sun:
Got up late.
Did the weeding and the lawn in back.
Did my sunday reading.
Then took a nap for 3 hours. I don't know, I'm wiped out. It's only
7:00 and I want to go to bed.
One call, a guy with a win8 machine that wants to move to 10? Uh,
not what I would recommend. He's going to think about his options.
Yeah, you do that.
Did some xbox with the others, but stopped a little early.
Feels like I spent the night half asleep but when I got up I felt a
little better?
Mon:
Still pretty wiped out. Didn't have much gumption to do much at
work. But then, when do I?
Surprise surprise then, didn't feel like getting much done, even if
I could. Didn't check if that guy had set things back to normal for
me.
I did get a box of cards from Joe, tomorrow I'll label them and see
if the work.
The machine I use that was done got fixed. Something about the
scanner, he had to run some diagnostic routine or something? But how
did he do that without the software being installed? Or did it go
back to the old software on reboot? Don't know.
Good news, felt better as day progressed. Still not 100% but at
least I'm leaving work feeling better than I arrived.
Came back here, checked sites. Got ready for tomorrow.
Tues:
So it's become a very nice cough, which is super! Ddin't calm down
until about 3:00 AM so I could finally get some sleep. Figured I
would be a wreck today. But not so! Woke up feeling okay. Figure
that out.
Cough continued.
More people at work than I expected, too. I wanted to do stuff,
really I did! But I can't do the D8.0 stuff because I still can't
log in.
So I tried to label the cards Joe got me. I couldn't do that,
because none of the tools I have will read the cards.
Joe said he got the software from the company and would put it on
our shared site so I could get it. He did not.
We did have two meetings though, as usual. That was the work I have
currently, and I couldn't do it. I did try, honest.
Figured I would burn out fairly quickly, but no. Wrote up what
happened in the pony game into the new story. Not a whole chapter
yet.
Then back here. Checked sites, did the new warframe solo mission,
ate dinner.
One call. Acted like it was so important and call as soon as you can
but in the same breath said it had been doing this for two days. So,
really, how important was it? I wasn't coming tomorrow, I don't want
to get out of bed tomorrow and honestly lady you don't want me
coughing all over you either if this isn't gone by then. But I
offered to help then and there. I wanted to see this so called
behavior she was failing to describe for myself so I (as usual)
asked her to open the program I use to see people's screens. 80-90
year old ladies have successfully done this. But she got all snippy
because there are "millions" of icons on her desktop (oh really?)
and she "needed more direction." What can I tell you lady? It's an
icon, with the words "remote assistance" under it. (Have we used it
before? We've probably used it before.) But she said never mind and
"if I could find it I wouldn't have called you" that was that.
(Which you may realize makes no sense. This was for me to see her
screen. She wouldn't have needed it until she called me. And if she
didn't have it, it's one click on a website to download it. It's not
hard. You know what a website is, right?) Guess it wasn't so urgent
after all, huh? I mean if someone is going out of their way to help
you, for free, getting snippy at them for a failure on your own
part isn't helping matters. It boggles the mind. She's an old
customer of mine, honestly not one of the better ones as you may
imagine. But it's people like her that make me take one more step
towards the red "burn it all down" button.
She's the lady that, during covid, made me sit outside in the
freezing cold for hours while transferring files to a new laptop.
Yeah, lose my number, thanks.
Xbox with the others.
Wed:
Good news. As mostly expected, given how fast symptoms are changing,
no more cough. Just a bit of a runny nose. But that's normal. Ears
are a bit stuffed up which again is normal given what's gone on. So
weird, what was this?
Also started the day with a 30 second or so power outage. Love that!
Thanks, or whatever.
No more cough or running nose. What was that? So weird. Well, I say
no there is still a trace of it.
Checked sites. Did some reading.
Mostly did reading, actually. Did take a bit of a nap in the
afternoon, then went back to reading. I should have done writing. I
know this. Sigh.
Thurs:
Back to it. Got the tool for the cards so I worked with them. Did
the test Joe wanted, with the plugin. It was fine.
Started writing the next Emberhaven chapter, but work stuff kept
getting in the way. Had the afternoon meetings of course. Oh got a
haul too, not too big but good enough for some breakfasts, some
stuff to bring my parents, and enough for next week. So that's good.
Next one should be, uh, tomorrow? That's what it's dated for... odd.
Still very hot out.
Emailed the vet about Oliver. Heard back that it was passed on to
the vet but nothing since then. At least it's in their hands now.
Server is still messed up so couldn't do the D8.0 tests.
One call. Another person talking about win11 that can't move to it.
Great job, MS. Way to alienate your customers. Anyway, he's just
down the street I'll go there Saturday morning he wants to give me
free stuff he's not using and I'll always accept free stuff.
Looking ahead won't do much writing or work tomorrow, as it's our
picnic. Small chance of rain, and it'll be hot. Same place as last
year I think.
Seeing my parents, going to the bank (no customer stuff, not really,
but I got a $250 check from Google of all places as part of class
action lawsuit so, sure, whatever) and the shopping.
Then running part 2 of episode 1.
Saturday is Neil day, going over to Sean's for games with probably
only Alyx but who can say. Stan may be there.
Sunday if I don't melt I want to cut the front lawn (the weeds are
getting pretty high) and take care of any more weeds in the berries.
Some are starting to turn! Otherwise finally finishing the
Emberhaven chapter? Humm, tricky. I'll want to start planning
Episode 2 of the pony story. Do the readings. Well, I guess we'll
see.
June is almost done, need to start thinking about what to make
people for Christmas too. Will Oliver go in to the vet early?
There's a lot of things that could be done. Tune in next week to see
what all happened. Bye!
I'm actually running out of these...
