Fri:
Only work thing was the onedrive meeting. We did get it working.
Well, I didn't help. They still have an odd thing happening though?
He claims not to be seeing the success message after a scan. While
he was working on it I did a scan here, and I saw the message. We're
running the same software. It's very odd.
Proofreading and adding to the document.
Did the shopping, saw my parents.
Back here, sites, videos.
Then game. We defeated the bad guy pretty easily, and that's the end
of Season 1. We were pretty paranoid it was some kind of trick or a
duplicate, he's had people stand in for him before. But no, he got
hit by Taro, I got him with a spell so he couldn't spend energy
(thus basically crippling him) Miki grabbed him, and I hit him with
fire after he refused to surrender. It was over. When we walked in
the room there were a dozen other spirits so I figured I would get
to use my zappy zap lightning talisman a bunch but they just stepped
aside. Huh. Oh well, it's over. Now I prepare for the pony game I
guess.
Guy canceled for tomorrow so that's a good thing right? Said his
laptop was working fine again, not sure how that happened. Whatever,
saves me the trip and hauling my monitor out there.
Sat:
Did some outside work, but there's more to do tomorrow. I didn't do
the weeds, but rather the replanting. Dug up lots of those icky weed
things, put tiny berry bushes in their place.
Worked on the dehumidifier. Took it apart, cleaned it. Put more
padding on the places where the metal seems to touch metal,
hopefully this will negate the horrible squeaking it does. So far so
good? Of course I have performed this task before, and been granted
only a short reprieve so we'll see how it goes this time.
Did some reading.
Lunch.
Over to Sean's for game. We took care of my curse, and the being we
hoped would help us said "bye bye" and left. Well, if I had been
imprisoned for over a thousand years I would be somewhat angry at
the beings that did that to me too. Even if I didn't exist in linear
time. Maybe we'll see them again at the end? We're back on track
hunting down the Gloom. We're following cultists to a nearby (3
hours away) lair, lamp oil thieves if you can believe it. They ride
stone dogs, not horses. They're cool like that. Both the client of
the lamp oil delivery and the guard captain gave us the mission,
little did we know it was the same mission. But we found the place.
And Sean has further nerfed our ability to use the astral so we're
just figuring out what to do about all that.
Sun:
Did the weeding. Moved more trees around, and dug out the rose bush
in the back. It died, not a leaf on it. Sigh. At least I still have
plenty of stuff to put there. Big rose bush is doing great, plenty
of flowers.
Not expecting as many grapes this year. The vines for that seem not
to have come back like they did. Double sigh.
Anyone want a pile of sticks and weeds? Eh? Eh? Could be free, to a
good home!
Did Sunday websites. Sunday reading. The author of one of the
stories that wrapped up started a new story, so I added that to the
list. It's gathering momentum I guess we'll see if his last story
was a fluke or if he can deliver another hit.
Ate lunch.
More reading, mostly. Got ready for tomorrow. No calls. Xbox with
the others.
Mon:
Why is my phone service out? I heard a beep from my alarm system
that woke me up at 1:00 AM exactly, wandered around trying to figure
out why the green light was out. Got a status on the panel the phone
test didn't work. Yup, it was right. My phones are dead. Sigh.
Still dead in the morning.
Had a Joe meeting in the morning, about certs. I hate certs. Don't
know why he invited me, I just test with the certs development gave
me, presuming they're right. But apparently USDA sets them up very
differently? Because of course they do. Anyway, he got the info
about certs he needed.
Otherwise I put together a timeline for the pony game, and uh
nothing else.
Got cat food.
Got home, phone still out. Called Frontier. That's an experience.
Talked to the computer, got a real person. Real person was not there
to solve my problem. Real person was there to sell me fiber internet
and scary scary "you won't be able to avoid it forever how about we
sign you up right now?" No, I don't want your fiber phone line
service. This is the first time my phone has gone down ever. How
reliable do you think a service is that needs battery power to work?
Not very, right? I may take any letter I "have" to change as a sign
from the universe to finally stop the business. I simply cancel my
home phone service and that's that. How would that be, Frontier?
Anyway, got past that guy, got guy in India. Uh, what? Guy in India
took all my information again and scheduled local visit.
Maybe this is why my bill keeps going up. All these things/people
standing in the way of me actually getting service. Did we need that
middle guy? Did we need that machine? I had to give my information 3
times, so clearly it wasn't passed along. That all costs money. Just
have one guy. Not sales guy. Not "maintain the server" guy. Just
answer the phone guy and can do stuff. All I need is that guy.
Anyway, the phone guy could be here at 8:00, or as late as 5:00 I
guess? Quite the range there. Supposedly they'll text when they are
on their way, so I can just come home I guess.
Did my reading, sites, dinner, the usual.
Tues:
So today was something.
Lots of small stuff. Like me doing more testing on onedrive to
figure out what was going on with the client not getting the success
message. I wanted to install it on my usual device, which is down. I
altbooted it. But got the same error, so great, I have no idea what
to do about that. I tried a versalink device, and couldn't log out.
Or, I learned, anything else but hit the scan button. That works.
But the menus don't open. Neat. And it won't install on a D8.0
device, which is great. I should have caught all this earlier, silly
me for thinking if it ran perfectly on one device it would be fine
on all devices. I guess not.
I can't log into two devices, they just give me a browser error.
I had to altboot the 8045 because the last person that used it
(Supposedly John by the calendar, 5/20) changed the admin password
and didn't change it back, so I couldn't get into it. He said it
wasn't what he usually uses. But at least that got up and running,
so I would replicate the "no spinner" issue. It's stupid the older
altalink works differently from the new one. It's the same app. The
same server. I don't get it.
Had the Joe meeting, that was fine. No OneDrive meeting, they don't
want to hear about all the bugs we now have to fix, again, causing
more delays right? Right.
Skimmed the pony rules, pulled out some page numbers and such for
running the game.
No text from phone company. Oddly, when I got home the phone was
working? One weird thing, my machine registered a message, but my
caller ID showed no calls coming in. So did they come and fix it
without telling me? No one ever showed by 5:00, and it's 6:00 now.
So what... happened?
Of course two calls came in after that.
Checked sites, had dinner.
Made my calls. Just phone stuff, annoying, but I got though it. An
hour later.
Trying to get my iPod to not have the same songs on it is proving
frustrating. Why? It looks like it's copying but it's the same ding
dang songs! Think I got it though, that was really crazy. I don't
get it.
Xbox with the others.
Wed:
Not much work wise.
Worked on the plot. Got it pretty much finalized I think, with the
challenges they'll need to do. Got some sprites ready too, all I
need is the backgrounds and to come up with Sunny's character sheet
(just in case) and the one enemy they'll have.
Left a little early to have the car inspected, took only 15 minutes.
I hate the new design, by the way. The old design had the months
around it and a hole on the month you needed to take the car in for.
I could, while seated, glance at the sticker and be reminded of when
I needed to do the inspection. Now there is no hole. You have to be
out of the car and look at the thing from the front to tell. Not an
improvement.
Went out with Tinker, checked sites, had dinner. One call, I need to
tell the guy from last night to press the backspace key. Yes, that's
the extent of my job now. The backspace key. Why me?
Worked on the character creation. Or not. I thought I had gone
through the process but I should have looked. I already made Sunny.
Got the killer robot done. Found some battle maps too. I may be all
set?????? I still have to set up roll20 of course, put everything in
there so the others can see it. I'm in good shape though.
Thurs:
Same sorta story today. Meetings as usual. Did a little oneDrive
stuff to get logs. Figured out from the log my install problem
wasn't because of D8.0 but the time being wrong on the device. Who
turns off NTP? The log told me this, but it could just have easily
have been in the "customer" log thus reducing service need. I would
have figured it out myself if it had given the reason in the install
log. So thanks for that? Stupid thing.
Made some more notes about the game, I'm feeling fairly confident...
which is a bad sign.
Got new shoes on the way home. The sole on the one was coming right
off. I glued it earlier but it didn't hold. Oh well. I also think I
found a box with old shoes in it, like someone put on the new shoes
and left their old ones. My shoes were $30.00 dude. Come on. You
can't be that hard up. You drove there... in a car. Gas is
expensive. You could afford those shoes.
Took Tinker out, checked sites and ate dinner.
One call. Said someone would be home. Lie.
Worked on putting the graphics into Roll20. All snug, very nice.
Looking ahead Joe wants me to do the last D8.0 test even though
everything isn't in yet. "Just in case." Sure, why not? I can do
that. So I'll do that. Otherwise not much planned.
I'll do the shopping, no bank, see my parents. Then back for making
characters and maybe the first part of the adventure if we get
through that quickly. We should, I don't think it's that complex?
I'll have my father over for a movie for Father's day. Any other
activities planned?
I'll do the usual weeding I suppose. I don't think there's anything
else big planned. Maybe I'll do writing, I have to write the
Emberhaven chapters yet, though there's still plenty of time.
See you all next week. I think the year is half over...?
