2024-04-25:
Fri:
Got a build for the cloud auth so I loaded that up. Set it up. Stuck
the card in. Boom, crashed the machine.
Got the log, it was all rebooted because I wrote up a bug. Stuck the
card in again. Boom. Crash. Okay, done, it's reproducible. Made the
device a lab machine, as they say, two people were looking at it,
stick the card in. No crash.
Really?
Had an hour and a half meeting about the EIP stuff. Christina had
already (somehow?) found the tool we would need earlier so I had
fixed up the test cases. There are still a few questions, but it's
not too bad at all. Wish I could have just asked my two or three
questions and kept the meeting on track, but he wanted to go over
every little part of the window which we're not using my dude. No
really. But whatever, Christina sort of took this one so she can get
benefit out of it I guess.
No haul.
Don was around asking about a 3 year old project. I gave him some
info about it which he said helped.
Wrote up the notes for what I'm right now calling building block
magic.
Kevin picked up the printouts.
That's about it I think.
Did the shopping, saw my parents, got some info about what is needed
to do when they're away.
Came back home. Checked sites. No game, Sean said he had it mostly
figured out but wasn't prepared mentally to run game. He was posting
after 11:00 PM so he didn't go to bed though. When I'm tired, a
little trick I use is going to bed, see, then you wake up later and
you're not tired anymore. He should try that.
Sat:
Worked on modular magic. Or building block magic, name TBD. I'm
happier with it now I think? It's at least moving in some direction,
maybe.
Cleaned up.
Bill stuff, like the water bill and submitting the electric meter
reads.
Then more work on the spells. Started basically translating them
from the beginning.
Perhaps a short nap, again with kittens. You sit/lay down in this
house, and cats are magnetically drawn to sit/lay on top of you.
Had dinner, parents came for movie.
Then xbox with the others. Remnant II once again. I guess we're
getting some new content in that game so we're looking for some
kinda crystal and getting back into it.
Sun:
Read my stories, including the ending of the longest running one,
that was "three chapters." Yeah, three chapters broken into like 12
parts.
Worked on the magic system a little.
Worked on my plants a little. Now that my mother took some to put in
the shops I put more in pots. There are still more, once these are
ok I'll snip them and put the ones further up the stalk into pots as
well.
Got ready for next week, gonna be a banger. Even remembered to set
my alarm a bit early so I can make that 8:00 demo. I'm such a
responsible employee.
Mon:
Made it with plenty of time, even carrying around the huge haul I
got. No really, it was overflowing the box. 4 salad, many
sandwiches, a chili, grilled cheese, two vegi rolls. Crazy. I'll
bring lots to my parents, the irony is the stuff in the cases is
dated tomorrow. Yes, they put stuff in there that's good
for one work day? What are they thinking?
Oh caught a cutie this morning too. A mouse, to be clear. I'm not
out looking for girls or something. He was just peeking out of the
trap when I put him in the cage, not like some of the others that go
crazy trying to escape at first. He took his little bath though (why
do they always run through the water?) and even had a bite to eat.
Never seen a mouse do that before. I mean they stay alive, I know
they eat, but to actually nose through the pile and start munching
away, holding something in his little paws and sitting up? So cute!
Must have been hungry I guess. I'll keep them until Thrus as I have
to go feed everybody anyway. Enjoy the room service, little one.
It's going to be the only vacation you ever get in your life!
Watched the big demo, first of many to come this week. At least the
first one tomorrow starts at 8:30 and not 8:00.
Oh right, some work was done on my crash last week. They actually
found a nul pointer that could have caused the issue. Said he fixed
it too, so it seems like my efforts were not in vain after all.
I logged in a bunch after the ~3 hour demo. It was a slog, that's
for sure. And we didn't even get through it. Tomorrow will be far,
far worse.
Anyway spent the rest of the morning and the entire afternoon with
the new build. There are some issues, they're noted down not bugs
written. Yet. And one major one, they knew about it I think but they
don't know the cause. At some point I logged out, and I just got a
please wait screen, and it just stayed there. I took a log, they
said to reboot and let them know if it happens again right away. Now
that I know to look for it, I will. So there!
Went to dinner with my family.
Then back here. Checked sites, got ready for tomorrow. No calls.
Worked on the magic. Trying to get the creation rules hammered out.
Tues:
Got through demo day. But don't worry, there's more demos in the
future.
Got the onedrive build and gave that a quick whirl. Good news- files
are smaller and transfer fine. Bad news- the biggest job took 8
minutes. Now, that same job took about 5 minutes over USB so it's
terrible either way. What kind of processors are we using? Oh
right, bad ones.
Oh right, got another haul. Yeah, most of a box worth. Nuts. I'll
bring that stuff over later, again I have to go over there anyway.
Bring it home tomorrow, jam in into my fridge, then jam it into
theirs in the morning on Thursday. A perfect plan.
Next date: the 26th. Yes it's still this week.
Also had the Joe meeting, and the usb port meeting. Still stuck on
trying to source outside China. Still have no idea if all the parts
of the device come from outside there, I mean I can't see it so.
Gave results for the onedrive test to Karen. It was a busy day.
Got my backup bay just as I got home, no really he blocked the
driveway. Got that set up and working. Yeah, amazing if you buy the
right thing it works out.
Checked sites, had dinner. Got stuff ready for tomorrow because of
late second work.
Then out to second job. He wasn't there. Of course. Thanks for
wasting my time.
Back home. Backup is 15% done.
Xbox with the others. Didn't get through the new content, so there's
that.
Wed:
Had the long demo, which still isn't over it's the demo that never
ends. Then it was our quarterly earnings call, where apparently 1.5
billion for one quarter is terrible, and we should feel bad. Ha, he
didn't say that. Only that we should look to the future, and not
focus on one quarter. While in principal I agree, doing the
shareholder "short term" only is a bad idea, at the same time are
you sure we're on the right track? That this isn't the markets
saying "we don't like what you're doing." Are you sure?
Then lunch, then diving into the new USB key thing which I
haven't really done a test on. Weirdly. Got through one machine,
there's a few things they could improve. Huh I'll need to send out a
report.
Then more one drive tests, timing them and such.
Then back home. Brought the food home, so I'll bring two mice (oh
yeah I caught another cutie last night) and the food over there
tomorrow morning. Have to get to bed early.
Checked sites, had dinner. Backup is 90% done. Sheesh, that's slow.
Tweaked my build in Remnant 2. Didn't like the new rings, but
shuffling around the rings I do have allows me to basically have my
weapon mod power at max immediately after using the weapon mod.
There's literally no reason not to have it up 100% of the time now.
Cool beans.
Backup finished. Updated the NAS to the latest firmware.
No calls today, not even the guy from yesterday with an apology.
Thanks guy.
Thurs:
Let my two new buddies go. Had to search around quite a bit, just to
find someplace to put them that was dry enough. So they wouldn't
drown or freeze. Kitty's water bowl was iced over! No wonder the
heat keeps coming on. The area back there is flooded, like literally
there's standing water everywhere. Mud is crazy. Yikes. Good luck
guys. I hated to leave them out there but every other mouse is in
the same boat (see what I did there) so hopefully they'll find a
place that's nice and dry until it warms up a bit.
Anyway, fed everybody even outside kitty stuck around for some
treats.
Another busy day today. Let's see if I can recount it all.
I did a nearly complete test of the flash drive thingy on the C8155.
I attended the demo that's still going on. I had to leave that one
early to go to the oneDrive meeting where I spoke about my results.
She wants some more scans, and we're going to try without the
compression setting as well, to see if the other fix works and it
speeds the process up.
Spoke to my actual manager. About my raise. That's right,
even though our first quarter was "so awful" to hear our CEO tell
it, (again, it was 1.5 billion dollars) we're getting a
slight increase. Go ahead, guess how slight.
Go on, guess.
No really.
Come on!
Okay okay I'll tell you. Eighty.
Nine.
Cents.
That's right. Less than $40 a week. I mean it's not nothing, but you
remember how I calculated out how much I should be making, to keep
up with inflation since I worked there in 2000. I'm happy to get it
but it feels like so little.
Do anything else? Oh yeah, bunch of bugs written, we changed our
minds about that so I needed to enter them all. I got in the flash
drive thing ones, we'll do the new auth method ones tomorrow.
Did the extra scans she wanted, to see how they would influence
speed/size.
Watered the plants.
Had the usual meeting.
Got some more pizza out the garbage. Something else too, shoot what
was it?
So yeah. That was today. No calls, going to be early again. Did the
usual such as sites and eating dinner.
Tomorrow; feeding everybody again, bug writing, some more testing I
assume. No game, Sean already said yesterday he wasn't doing it.
Saturday is Pyre again in the afternoon. Probably do more work on
the magic system, who knows.
Nothing planned for Sunday. Of course feeding everybody those two
days. Yup, that'll be a weekend all right. And almost the end of
April already. I should start thinking about Christmas gifts!
See you next time.
