2024-04-11:
Fri:
As expected, not much came in.
I worked on the next chapter. Maybe I've taken the bow a bit too
far? It won't kill a dragon in one shot, but that's only because a
regular arrow can't get through a dragon's scales. And of course the
whole size thing is an issue. But it would still give it pause if it
saw them readying a second volly.
No haul.
No color table, maybe Monday.
Went to the shopping.
Then Wegmans, got my $5.00 in lottery winnings. Then spent them on
onions, as Aldi had none. No onions! What?
Saw my parents, and the outside kitty.
Back here, checked sites.
Made soup.
Cleaned up the house for my father coming over.
Sat:
The big floor!
Got it done in the morning, we had 3 too many boards and had to take
them back. I thought we would have too few. This once again proves I
am not able to estimate material needs! A big thank you to my father
for all his hard work, and for the cutting and the nailing and such.
Now we just need a kitten to really take advantage of it.
After that, watched a few things, puttered around. Had a nap. The
usual.
Nothing too big.
I did empty the cat's toy bucket into the upstairs cat area. Huh I
should paint the entrance with cats or get some decals or something,
make it look pretty. It's just sort of a hole in the wall right now.
Not that they care.
Sean was doing the Mega Game so no warframe. Got to bed on time!
Sun:
At some point, I forget if it was last night or in a dream I had (to
quite a certain Faden) I figured out what to do with the upstairs. I
moved the big, clunky, dresser that was now in the way into the
plant room. I put it near the window, because previously I had a
very precarious situation and water was always going all over and it
was sort of a big mess up there. But the dresser exactly fit into
the space up there and I re-purposed my wrapping paper box (as it
was plastic) and set it on top of the thing. It too exactly fit the
space. I love it when a plan comes together! Why can't this happen
more often I ask you!? Then I put a bunch of tiny, starter pots in
the box and put a lot of the spider plant babies in the starter
pots. Two weeks from now I'll cut the connection to their mommies,
they should be rooted by then I've done it before, and move more
into pots. Doing them all at once isn't practical because of the
random nature of how they've grown. It'll be fine.
Some were knocked off their mommy in the move so I hope they
survive.
I poured a bunch of water into the bottom of the box (yes, I checked
it for cracks first I'm not totally dumb) so they all stay
nice and moist and I've got a whole green area now! Grow little
ones, grow!
I sold one at the shops, according to my mother, let's hope that's
the start of a trend. I have a ton more at work I could
"rescue" if they start selling again.
So that was my morning.
Oh and I cleared off a shelf downstairs for another project I hope
to get the parts for sometime next week. Gonna be epic! I'll give
you a hint- it's completely solid state. It's a storage device. It's
totally network attached. Sort of a "storage attached to any
network" or SATAN if you will. Wait I think we need a new acronym
for it. I'll work on that.
Right, I did another thing in the morning too! Ordered the lights
for upstairs. I'm just getting an LED strip, it's less than $20 for
more strip than I actually need (you can cut it) and that will
hopefully light the place up very nicely. I have some old christmas
tree light hangers I used to use before I stopped climbing the
ladder and trying to put them on the gutters, I'll nail them up and
just slide them through, so it'll be right on the edge of the wall
and should be quite bright the light will shine right out. The
pictures selling the product make it look cool, with white light
spilling out of just about everywhere in the pictures. I wonder if
another project is in my future? I'll see just how bright this is,
and go from there. Getting rid of these clunky lamps for TRON would
be pretty cool, no? I have so many lamps in here, to properly light
the space up, it's a bit silly. But if I could edge the whole room
in light...
Wait would doing so make me an edge lord? *Furiously looks up
definition* Oh no that's something else.
Calculated how many tubes and lights I might need to light up the
room. It doesn't seem very expensive at all!
Finished up the book I got for my birthday. I love how people are
injured all the time in the book and nobody seems to recall that
both healing potions AND healing magic exist. Like, really? You were
in the hospital a month? Why? Do hospitals not have any doctors with
MP? A single cure materia? What world is this taking place in? Our
world or the world of magic you live in? Surgery? The characters in
the game are mauled, crushed, cut, sliced, electrocuted, frozen,
dragons breathe fire on them. A single spell and they're fine. But
not so in the book. Very weird. They don't mention materia at all,
apart from the one Aerith has. They're not expensive in the game,
and yes I know the story takes place in a slum but magic is useful.
I don't care what it does, I bet it could be exploited in some way.
But it's like it doesn't even exist, but they have guns? Cloud walks
around with a sword I remind you. So weird.
As I was reading two cats came and lay down on me. You can't move
cats. That's the rule. So I may have napped some more.
Got ready for tomorrow, no calls that's a good thing.
Did warframe, almost have enough of the thing to trade for the new
weapons and frame itself. The game gave me two of the thing I
already had bought, so thanks for that.
Mon:
Gee, seems like there aren't many cars in the parking lot. Wonder
why that is?
Looked into a card for Joe for like an hour.
Oh, and got a good haul, many salad for my parents that I hope to
deliver after work. We'll see how the traffic is I guess.
Oliver appointment was made, we'll see if May 20th is available!
Not much else work wise. Something weird did happen during the
afternoon though. Thought I would stretch my legs a bit around 3:15
and walked out to the front of the building. Side of the building? I
don't really know where the "front" is. I'm getting off track. It
was super cloudy and dark, but then as I watched it got even more
dark! But then it got light again, so no worries! Maybe a really
big plane went overhead? Or a big bird? A dinosaur ripped through
time? Because of the clouds we'll never know.
Never.
Know.
Brought food to parents, came back home.
Got some rolled up carpet when getting my mail, I'll see about
putting it upstairs for the kids to scratch up. Now if I just had a
really big piece of wood to... oh.
Xbox, as Sean was off work today for some reason. Still don't have
enough of the things to get the final thing.
Tues:
Got some actual work in today. Just the color table though, which
did make a difference finally. The yellow looks yellow. And why did
it take us this long to make a color printer print the color yellow?
Doesn't make sense to me.
Otherwise 3 meetings, yes a Joe meeting about projects in general, a
meeting about the USB hub, and the onedrive meeting. We should have
something for them in... a month. Seesh.
As for the USB, whoopsy, we are trying to sell this to the
government but they can't use anything from China? Even a USB hub?
Uh, do they not carry cellphones? Where do they buy monitors from?
Their desks are probably made in China. Well, maybe the chairs. I
don't get it. So maybe it's not as buttoned up as I thought. Or they
thought, I don't care.
No writing, I'm just reading a story. So lazy.
Nice and warm today, sunny too. Figures.
Came back here, had dinner, checked sites.
Then xbox, as is usual for this day. Naturally I still need many
components for the last piece of the weapon.
Wed:
Gave the printouts for the color table stuff to Kevin. Otherwise,
not much exciting at work. Rained a bit.
Finished chapter 14 and started 15 of Breaking the System. Paige got
sniped!
Still no news on the guy setting up my device so I can look at the
supposedly new code. It's still on D8.0. So nothing I can do there.
Oh, more haul! Yes, more stuff! I brought almost all of it to my
parents. Why is stuff suddenly dated for only a day or two, it used
to be 5 days at least. Very odd. Had a yogurt and more cheesecake.
Got my hardware in, set that up and started my anime folder copying
to it. Ugh, 6 hours? It went to 5 pretty fast but it's going to take
a few more hours. In the morning I'll start my other two big folders
so it can copy them all day.
Good thing I did get it set up so quickly, it wasn't too bad,
because I spent an hour on the phone. Two calls today, because of
course after days of nothing I get two. One lady that just got
another pop up and didn't remember how to restart her device. So I
told her again.
The other guy said neither his or his wife's email worked. His
machine was a Mac so I got on the PC which did have the
remote client, liars. I got on firefox, she was logged in. But it
hadn't remembered the correct password. She did know it, thankfully,
so we did get in that way. But then I opened outlook. It was working
just fine, it had email from today in it before the unreads
came in. So you lied a second time. Great. But there is something
wrong with his account, yahoo wouldn't even let me get to the reset
password page. It just gave an error. Great service there, good job
Yahoo/Frontier. Why did Frontier give up hosting email again?
That took until 9. Or just about. Great, time for bed.
Thurs:
Many meetings today. Met with Joe about the whole "made in china"
situation and related issues.
Then worked on finding him data in the service manual about
replacing the USB ports. Are they really only rated for 1500
insertions? That seems a bit low.
Met about the USDA issue, and the timeline of him getting us the new
code.
Then the usual status meeting, and then plants.
Some of the D8.0 stuff has come in, I'll get to work on that
tomorrow. As I haven't gotten the D7.8 stuff I was promised, I can
use the machine for that. Not that I couldn't choose another of
course, but I did sign the machine out so I feel I should use it.
Otherwise not much else. Just reading. What a slacker.
Got the light in, so I put them up. Hey, they work pretty good! It's
a bit long on one side, but a bit short on the other based on where
the plug is, but that's fine. It's lit up enough. I'm pretty happy
with it. But are they really bright enough to light up the whole
living room? I'm not so sure, hard to know if I should go ahead with
that project or not. I could just order the lights and stick them to
the wall without the nice little tubes, just to see if it would work
out.
Checked sites, had dinner.
Looking ahead I'll do D8.0 stuff tomorrow, do the shopping, and see
my parents. No game apparently, second week in a row. But we are
doing Pyre on Saturday (at least that was the plan) I haven't heard
it's not on.
Sunday (or Saturday morning) I'll see about cutting some of the rug
off and nailing it upstairs for the guys. I think that might finish
the project off for now.
Copying has gone well. Started the next two folders when I got up
and it said 12 hours. It's about to finish, now 12 hours later. See
MS, you can estimate time if you know what you're doing.
I've been thinking of a new magic system, maybe I'll get a chance
over the weekend to develop it more?
Oh, I want to read the manual for my NAS as well, if it has one. Get
everything copied to it, move dropbox to it, move things around.
That sort of stuff. Not sure what else. We'll take it as it comes.
See you all back here next week.
