2024-03-28:
Fri:
Did the one device, no problems there now, so that's at least one
test we know we can fully do and not worry too much about as the
other features are added to the code.
Found another story to read. It's about a lady taken to another
world and given the ability to eat just about anything including
sticks, then lay eggs incorporating anything about what she's eaten
into new bodies that all share a hive mind.
Got much work for Monday, stupid exchange and making some test
cases. Kishor wants me to figure out the exchange powershell errors
to make changes to the server, a feat I doubt I will be able to pull
off. I did try, after all. Gina finally got the specs (at least some
of them) so I can start making the last of the test cases for D7.8.
Shopping, saw parents.
Came home, no game.
Checked sites, did my own game.
Then a bit of xbox with the others.
Sat:
Snowed, but it wasn't too bad. Not enough to bother with cleaning
out, I'll just let it melt. It's going to get warmer again reaaaal
soon.
Got monitor guy set. Odd, but I guess it is the monitor. Just
switching the plugs made mine come on right away, but his stayed
dark. So now I have a busted monitor to take care of.
Came back, played more of the game.
Then left for Sean's. No Stan, he's not feeling well. We got through
Snarly's dragon hunt. We couldn't help him because "reasons" but he
managed it without a scratch. Go little guy! We're now on the trail
of the "flying creature" in the area the townsfolk are worried
about, and it seems to be Gloom related activity. Great, more
cultists...
Sun:
Went to see mac guy. You know what his "problem" was? The thing he
couldn't articulate? He had made his firefox window really small.
Yeah. That's it. That was his whole problem. You couldn't just say
"I get a firefox window but it looks really small?" Really? really?
That's interesting. I showed him how to make it bigger again. Why
isn't there a minimum size to the window anyway? It's dumb you can
just "roll" it up and make it basically invisible. It was 5 seconds
of work, 40 minutes of driving. I really wish VNC still worked over
greenlight, it would be so much easier.
Checked sites.
Then went to do taxes. Didn't take too long, and as usual some
things went into different places and I had to "pad" the numbers
just a smidgen and take out the deductions for the expenses because
I had once again lost money on the whole thing. So I got it to $34
profit. Neat. Burn it to the ground.
Came back home, finished up the game I was playing. I didn't like
the final chapter. You had to go back and forth rewiring robots, but
the clues for the rewiring were on the other ship. The two main
characters had no communication so how was this being done? Up until
that point the solutions were fairly logical and separate. It felt
like the characters were solving their own problems with what they
had on hand. But the third chapter felt like I was solving
their problems for them. It was weird. I used a guide, it would have
been completely annoying otherwise and I just wanted the game over.
Started my zombie skyrim run. At least I think? I installed Special
Edition so I didn't mess up my vampire playthrough not that I'm ever
going back to it? Bit tricky to get the mods working and I don't
think I did? Ah, but I think I did later. But my difficulty slider
is gone, for some reason. I wanted to try "survival" mode but every
place I started I was basically getting killed in one hit by
everything. Neat! I finally remembered there's a difficulty setting
and went looking for it. The better UI mod (and you really need it,
the original inventory system in skyrim was awful!) seems
to make it go away. So I have no idea what it's set to in that game.
Sigh. Is everything way above my level for some reason? Ugh. My
summon was getting taken out in one hit too, not sure that's how
it's supposed to work. Not sure what I'm going to do about that. I
last tried the "shipwreck" start but I'm inside what appears to be
an upside down ship, and with survival mode on the cold water kills
me before I can even exit the ship. Nice. Even holding a torch I
don't warm up? Great, thanks that's a great system Skyrim. Maybe
turn that off to escape and then back on? There's still the
"camping" option I guess.
At least the load times are pretty non-existent now. That's a plus.
Mon:
Great haul again! And stuff is dated for tomorrow? The salad looks
good but I'll probably compost it, I don't know how long it's really
been there for. Sigh.
Got started on test cases. Realized it was an ugly mess because Gina
has not told me anything about what the project is trying to
actually accomplish nor have I been given visual specs to know what
the website changes are. There is no change tracking in the specs, I
think the changes for this project were made last year, so I have no
idea what's relevant or not.
After that was a demo so I watched that instead. The device they
used was in my lab and I figured the developer guy would be done
with it so I ran most of the tests on it. Whoops, he started using
it again, so I got off. Got it mostly done though.
Went back to the test cases, after emailing Gina of course. I think
I've at least got some handle on it based on what was written so I
came up with 40 some test cases. It's a start.
Gina messaged me later "oh I saw that note that I haven't read hey
do we have the ancient (it's like 8 years old at this point)
visually impaired system around the lab somewhere? No. Why would we
have such a thing? She loves her ancient projects, Gina does.
Thankfully she didn't insist I start setting one up. We hardly
support the devices it was attached to at this point.
Went to good will, got two things. One super cute thing I don't even
want to give away!
Then bought nasty fiberglass insulation to finish the upstairs with.
Got home, put it up. Realized I bought waaaaay too much
because I am dumb and don't know the difference between inches and
feet. I knew I needed 80 inches per section and there were 3
sections. (turned out there were 4 but I digress) The roll was
exactly the width and 34 of something. 34 FEET. Whoops. I got 4 of
them because that's what fit in the cart and I figured I would start
with that. Turned out I only needed one for the whole thing. Oh
right, I should have multiplied 80 * 3 and then divided by 12. I'm
so dumb.
I'll keep another roll, and do the other crawlspace as that's
getting pretty nasty as well. So I'll just return two.
Anyway, it's all done. The plastic is all up in there, it looks
great. Now for the floor part.
Checked sites, ate dinner. Oh yeah, most of the snow melted, it was
nice and sunny today.
Bit of skyrim. It's not the same mod, his mod was reporting the day,
and saying how bad things were getting. I haven't seen one undead,
of course I picked the slowest option for growth maybe I should have
picked a faster option. There were not many "in between" though it
was either "mankind is already doomed" or "you won't see one zombie
for weeks." Hummm... At least I'm not dying every three seconds now.
Tues:
Three meetings today, and a nice haul of a box and a half of stuff.
They're making it up to me I guess. My freezer is so full I couldn't
put it all in, and brought a bunch of stuff over to my parents after
work.
First meeting was with Don, about test plans for ancient projects
done by Chris to give another team making a new device but only the
color version? I have no idea what they're thinking. Anyway, one is
totally pointless and the other can't be found, at least of the ones
he wanted me to find.
Then meeting with Joe, status on the upcoming project.
Tried to get the latest files from the FTP site all day, but while
it would let me on, it wouldn't let me enter the directory. Huh.
So not much else. The third meeting was about the USB hub, they're
moving along with it.
Saw my parents, gave them food, took the 2 rolls of insulation back.
Then back home for dinner, and sites.
No xbox, Mizzy is away. Did Skyrim instead. No zombies yet.
Wed:
Spent a lot of the day doing the card reader test, now that we have
most of the files, and the FTP server was back.
Had a meeting to get some questions answered about the upcoming
cloud work.
Could not do a test of the LDAP stuff because that feature seems to
be missing in the latest build? Christina noticed it, I confirmed it
on another model too. It was there, upgraded, then it wasn't
anymore. Whoops.
Went to see the guy and get his form or whatever he wants me to do?
I have no idea still what he wants. He wasn't there. He was at
Wegmans. Sigh.
One call. Didn't reach her.
Thurs:
Untangled Gina's answers to my questions and wrote up the rest of
the test plan, at least so far as I can with incomplete information.
For one thing I still have no idea what it'll look like. For another
there are other specs coming I think? And third I'll need to use
some tool I've never seen to test the data structure we're putting
in place. So a lot of it was "use tool to do this" sort of thing.
But at least it's progress. Of a sort.
Wrote the next chapter of the Emberhaven story in the afternoon.
Worked to see why the card I loaned a guy didn't work. It was a cert
issue, because of course it was.
Got the sheets from the guy I didn't see yesterday. He wants a
printout! Ah. I can hand him that. No problem.
Came back here. TV guy down the street is complaining about it
again. He's second in line I'm not going anywhere this weekend. I
did reach the other lady. Apparently her bank accounts were
targeted. The odd thing is her venmo "card" was first? How is that
even possible? She claims not to have been scammed and the money
just vanished into thin air but who knows if that's true. Well,
that's Monday's problem. TV guy can be tuesday, it's just a TV.
Talking about the future tomorrow is the usual work. Next haul? The
date is right we'll see what happens. It's already tumbling
out when I open the freezer maybe I'll bring some home with me. I'll
do the shopping and go to the bank. Drop stuff off at my parent's
house. Put stuff away here, grab my Mac, head to dinner we're
meeting at a place only 15 minutes away. But then going to Sean's I
guess for game. Honestly I could just go home, still do mine
remotely. I guess we'll see.
Then saturday I'll want to do the insulation in the morning, get
that done. The second part the first part is all done. This is the
bonus room. Then at some point in the afternoon which is unclear at
the moment go back to Sean's for more game with Neil and Alex is
coming. No other response, Stan is a no go. Not sure who else would
really come. Maybe kate and adam but no, please no not the child.
Then sunday doing my reading and heading to my parent's house for
lunch and Easter funtimes with bunnies. I assume there will be
bunnies.
Then back here, Sunday stuff like cleaning the mouse cage and
getting ready for April.
That's about it for March. See you next week.
