Fri:
Oh boy, necromancy! Yes, Gina wants me to dig up the rotting corpse
of Gabi, may the Allfather rest her soul, and reanimate it using the
blackest of magics that it may shamble to life again! Despite it
being completely dropped from being made by the manufacturer we
somehow have to make it keep working with 8.0? How about.... NO.
Tried to do it. Every single thing about it doesn't work. The unit
gives an error on boot and gets a different IP address, so I don't
think the certs will work. The server part gives an error when I try
to bring it up. The new "weblet" just gives a white screen and then
an error. Yeah, such a great and stable product. No wonder it sold
so well. (They company sold like 2 copies of it, because voice
control of things............ doesn't work! You would think
we woul realize that by now. But no. We keep trying it. And it keeps
not working.)
Otherwise nothing new at work. Didn't write a chapter either.
Whoops. Where did the time go? Oh reading a story? That makes sense.
Super nice out, like 62? Sunny?
Did the shopping, saw my parents.
Came back here for game. Got through part of it. I guess physical
objects can have humanoid souls now, who knew? If it wasn't bad
enough people wander around confused as ghosts and make trouble, now
we have to deal with inanimate objects doing the same. We aren't
sure what to do with her. A ghost usually wants something, like
revenge or whatnot. What does a ship want? And we only have the
ship's wheel, it was wrecked 300 years ago. We can't find out what
happened to it, or install the wheel in a new ship. So we're a bit
stumped on that one.
Sat:
Checked sites while I ate breakfast.
Cleaned up.
Went for a kitty walk as it was still nice out. I'm sure he
appreciated it.
Got the last feathers I needed for my new ship. Started it building.
Made lunch.
Dad came over to watch Doctor Who episodes.
After that, had dinner.
Then did Xbox with the others. I finally got the part made and
started assembling my new ship. 3 days... that's how long it will
take. Sigh.
Sun:
Made a pie.
Posted my demongate high series on the site, as really who is going
to buy it? Now all my works are up there. Hurray?
Did my reading. Took even longer than usual because some jerk went
and posted a whole bunch of chapters. How rude... I would never say
to the person writing a story I enjoy so I get to enjoy more of it.
Did some Sunday things because I figured I would get home late,
which I did.
Went over to watch the big game, which was very, very close. It even
went into overtime! But the Swift team won after all, yay for the
team!
Mon:
Strange. A suspicious number of cars are missing from the parking
lot this morning. What could it mean? Even Christina is out today.
Odd.
Started the day with a possible solution to our onedrive issues. One
test later and we see it is not the solution. Neat.
Also does Karen want me to test every possible versalink model?
Yuck, no thank you.
And Don is messaging me for some bizarre reason these are not his
projects, he has nothing to do with them. So why is he so worked up
about it? Let us do our jobs, Don, we know what we're doing we don't
need you right now.
Ah, Karen does not want me to test every versalink model. That's
good.
Did proofreading. Found 2 things I want to fix. One wrong word and
one formatting issue.
I only got 1/3 the way through it though.
Came back here, worked on that a bit more I think I'm 1/2 through it
now. Tomorrow should finish it off.
Checked sites. Had dinner.
3 calls, sheesh. One lady was fine. The deaf guy I may go there
Wednesday if he doesn't get what he needs at the Apple store,
something about word, yuck, and one guy that just needed to put the
new password into his email in good old windows live mail. But at
least I didn't have to go anywhere.
Tues:
The now typical onedrive meeting today. I didn't have to say
anything, it was basically "we haven't heard from the people
actually doing the work so we have nothing to tell you." Sure.
Answered some questions about my test cases. To development. Go
write your own, our test cases should be completely separate.
Otherwise finished the last proofread. Made the final changes. When
I got home I ordered the books.
Otherwise not much new at work.
Bit of snow here, some places were supposed to get a lot.
Oh Christina was back, she seemed fine.
Checked sites, had dinner. Then xbox time.
Wed:
Got the next chapter written. Getting close to the castle.
Also maybe getting close to an answer on the cert thing? We accept a
cert we shouldn't, maybe? Don't know.
Nothing on gabi, please decide we can't support this anymore so I
can get the machine back? Thank you.
Otherwise no meetings. No haul either, the stuff that should have
been there was not. But the next stuff is dated for Friday. We'll
see. Nothing in either place, I checked. The bins weren't empty
either, when did it get taken away?
Came back here, checked sites. Then went out for my 5:30, the deaf
guy and something about office. Yippy.
He had just gotten into some weird mode that took one click to get
him out of. Now he did want to print this thing, and let me tell you
I don't know if he made this resume or what but it was messed up.
Text boxes everywhere, any modifying the margins messed it up
completely. Neat. I mention that because it had --- no margins! So
the edges were all cut off. And modifying them was impossible
because he was basically trying to use word as if it was indesign or
something. No works.
So finally I showed him how to save it to PDF which would of course
ignore the margins. Then print it from that and scale it down to
90%. That worked. Thanks for offering that printing option, WORD. Oh
wait you didn't.
So that didn't take tooooooo long.
One call here, he wiped his machine basically, and now it's coming
up with a password he insists he didn't put on it? So he can't get
into it. He's just down the street from work, so I'll go there
tomorrow.
Had dinner.
Here's something amusing. Frontier emailed me about updating their
phone service to 100% fiber, an email designed to trick me into
getting their internet service, which I do not want. It was coached
as like, oh, you have to do this. No, no I don't. A technician will
need to come to your home to connect you to our new network.
As part of the new plan you will receive internet. No, no I won't.
You will keep your copper lines right there, where they belong. But
that's not the amusing part. That's this line right here: "A more
reliable phone service." Really? How so? I don't think my phone has
ever stopped working in the 20 years I've lived here. However, with
this new fiber deal and here's another direct quote: "Frontier
fiber-optic phone service, including 911 service, requires
electrical or battery backup power to function. During a power
outage, you may not be able to make calls, including to 911, without
backup power for the Residential Gateway and/or the Opt/or the
Optical Network Terminal (ONT), or an alternate means of calling"
Sounds to me like this is less reliable, not more. But
perhaps Frontier is republican, where less is more, and more is
less, and you can't take yes for an answer? Perhaps, perhaps.
Needless to say, that was tossed.
Thurs:
Going to get busy at work, but not today. Tomorrow I have plenty of
stuff to do. A Kevin request to scan to TIF (who even does that?)
and check the dimensions of it. Some specs came in for the yubikey
project so I need to look them over for the test cases, and I
need to get two of them ready for another team.
Today was the usual meeting, more work on the cert stuff that
trashed the machine because a newline isn't going to be the solution
to anything, believe me. Nothing new on Gabi.
Finished the next chapter. Only a couple to go, maybe?
Oh I did get one bag of chips in the trash. Yay? Also a very large
piece of metal for my father and two tubes for a bird to chew up.
Yup, not bad.
But why one random bag of chips? They aren't torn or open, and the
date is way in the future. Very odd.
Went to "accidentally put on a password or whatever" guy. The usual
tricks do still work, so I was able to get it off of there. I don't
know what he did, some stuff was gone, other stuff was fine? No
clue.
Came back here. Snowed. It was snowing pretty hard actually. Had to
brush off the car at work and second work.
Checked sites, ate dinner.
Looking ahead I'll go to the store tomorrow, see my parents.
Probably no bank yet.
Do my list of stuff as above, I should be able to do it all in one
day, none of it is that complex.
I'm not sure we're doing game, Sean's mega-game is coming up
Saturday so I guess we'll see.
Have my parents over. Otherwise not many other plans for the
weekend.
That is seemingly about it. I'll see you all next week.
