2023-10-12:
Nothing fun to talk about work wise. Didn't hear from the defense
people. Must be really a great priority for them.
Made tweaks to my character sheets in anticipation of game tonight.
Making sure everything was right, simplifying the form, putting in
some logic for how much energy vs how much time to spend casting the
spell. That sort of thing.
Went to the bank, shopping, and saw my parents.
Put stuff away, then did a kitty walk as there was no game. So no
time crunch.
Nope, Sean was still grading stuff and wasn't ready from three weeks
ago? Whatever.
Did no man's sky instead, and hey it didn't even crash once!
Sat:
Went over to setup guy. Went fine, we renewed his office and I put
everything on onedrive. That started bringing it over to the laptop,
and I did his firefox stuff manually. No problem. He did think I had
replaced his fans "last year" but dude, it was like two months ago.
I know times flies and everything but come on! So he basically
bought a laptop for nothing, as there was nothing wrong with his
machine at all. Neat. Know what I enjoy? Buying hardware that's
completely useless.
Back here, checked sites. Ate lunch.
Worked on the gifts. Did the first pour of Neil's, the red pour.
There will be a red, a red/yellow, and a yellow. I hope. Please,
please work!
Finished painting Sean's. It came out great! I'm not 100% happy on
the silver, but on the body? Looks great, can't even tell it's a
different material. Good job, me. Once it finishes drying and I show
my folks I'll wrap it up. 2/3 done and it's only October. Very nice.
No Man's Sky. Lots of progress, built my super robot that can
withstand any weather. Crashed many times. Sigh. Now I can get the
special copper and the storm crystals with abandon, I just wish the
robot moved a little faster. Oh, he can rocket jump like nobody's
business, but that's hard to control. Oh well, he's a good friend,
following behind me wherever I go. What a pal.
Parents came for movie.
Sun:
Quite the productive morning.
Got Sean's gift all boxed up. Should stay nice for the next, uh, 3
months. Hee.
Did some sewing, a cat toy that got opened up and my bedsheet.
Asking for more bedsheets for Christmas mine are falling apart. Put
that on the list. Huh, list is looking pretty bare this year, guess
I don't need anything.
Then the second pour of Neil's gift. Oh, nice, found the red I
wanted to use I had "rose red" in the box but no "red-red" so I just
used that. It was on the other table. The table I should have been
using, to be clear, as I was doing all this on the kitchen table.
Sigh. I have transparent red I can slap a coat of that on to make it
more red. Gurr. Shouldn't have needed to though why wasn't it put
back???? Cleaned off the kitchen table so I can see it again. Huh,
there's a table under there all right. Also did the third pour, all
yellow. It's hardening as well so hopefully at least the shape will
be right, and I can color it a little more correctly and get it
mounted and done. It may be fairly heavy, I hope the metal rod I
have for it is long enough to provide good stability. Hard to say in
the mold how heavy it'll be, but heavier than the plastic version
for sure. Maybe I should try to make the base out of the same stuff?
I don't want it to break. Oh, and yes it occurs to me that I should
have waited to do the final pour and stuck the rod in the bottom so
the stuff hardened around it. It occurred to me after I finished the
pour. I are smart. Well, hopefully it can be drilled a bit and
glued. Why can't I ever think ahead???
Humm, wonder if I should actually drill a small hole at the top but
a large hole at the bottom? Fill up the bottom with material for
more stability while still looking good on the top. That could work!
And really, the top part doesn't need to be glued, it can just set
in the post. It's not going anywhere, gravity exists. Yes, I know
you anti-science types don't want to hear it, but yes, gravity is a
thing, the earth (which is round) goes around the sun, evolution is
a thing, and abortion is health care.
Checked sites.
Not many of my stories updated this week, odd.
More No Man's Sky. With lots of crashes this time. Yay! Clearing out
my quest list though, it's getting pretty empty.
Getting ready for tomorrow. One call over the weekend, but he said
his daughter or someone was making him a new email address so I need
do nothing. Sweet, good for you.
Remnant II with the others. Got a few new items, but no crown. That
will take a whole new playthrough.
Mon:
Where is everyone? Parking lot was empty and even Christina is gone.
Weird.
Fridge is looking pretty bare too, but still with 10/6 stuff in it.
So it hasn't been cleaned out, at least I didn't find anything.
Weird.
Worked on the sheets for my other character that has similar magical
creatures to aid her.
I did get the 10/6 stuff but it's just some chicken sandwiches. And
one salad I was going to bring home and eat and forgot. Sigh.
Hopefully it'll keep another day, it was looking just slightly sad.
Worked on my spreadsheets for the other game, realized they needed
to be updated too. So I did that. Come up with my questions for Sean
so I could write them in.
Found a case and half a set of earbuds in the parking lot on the way
out. I'll "submit" them to lost and found, but what is someone going
to do with one ear bud?
Came back here, checked sites. Got good news/bad news answers for my
questions. I can make one of the new creatures right away, so we'll
do that in the cave. I think the defense one.
Took a kitty walk as it was getting dark and rainy.
Ate dinner, videos, got ready for tomorrow.
Remnant II with the others.
Tues:
People were back today.
A bug got fixed so I made sure all my devices no longer went into
the rolling reboot state when applied. They did not. So I closed a
test task from several weeks ago and the backlog is as short as it's
ever been. Weird.
Otherwise I did finish the next chapter. The first part of the first
battle. Paige was hit by plasma fire and dropped in her first or
second action. Whoops. I don't think she even got her action now
that I think about it.
The others won though, still the "boss" of the room now has to be
dealt with.
No haul, though the food was dated today and just put in yesterday.
Came back here, did a kitty walk as it was yucky outside and didn't
want it to get too dark and start raining.
Checked sites, ate dinner.
Some calls, including one around 7:00. A Mac that's having trouble
getting email. Frontier email, so I'm not hopeful. Spent some time
but his setting seem right? Ugh, he's a half hour away but I have to
go over there. Wish I could get a remote viewing app on Mac that's
as good as the PC one but nope. Sigh.
And I have a job to do Sunday. Neat.
Wed:
Got a half haul today, hardly enough to last a week. The fridge was
pretty cleaned out.
Proofread and added some content to the last chapter. It's 5000+
words and a normal chapter is only 3,000. So it's almost a two for
one deal.
Didn't start the next one.
Nothing exciting work wise, Christina asked me about card readers
and I helped her see they did not return serial numbers.
What's with card readers and serial numbers all of a sudden?
Went out to second work. Win8.1 PC, maybe the last one in existence.
It was messed up in some way? That was not easily definable. I
finally plugged it into my laptop and did the disk check as it
wouldn't otherwise. It said it fixed stuff, and I ran the hardware
test. Which also said things were fine. It did boot, but it took
many minutes. I actually went out to the car (he was on the 17th
floor) and back before it finished booting. Then it seemed fine? But
it wouldn't shut down? Crazy. I finally gave up, threw an SSD in
there, reloaded windows from scratch and copied his files over.
Stupid thing.
Back at 7:00, checked sites, ate dinner.
And got ready for tomorrow.
Thurs:
Meeting day, but only one meeting lately.
Wrote half a chapter, Light simply teleported the big monster away,
that seemed the most prudent thing to do. That trick won't work
twice though.
Fridge is quite empty again, are they just not filling it like they
used to?
Heard back from the defense people. He sent me the line in the log
that seemed to be the tipping point and I recreated the problem.
Sent in what I did and what to check. Maybe that will be it.
No usb key test, apparently it doesn't work at all. No doubt our
machine thinks it's a flash drive? Hard to say but that's on hold at
least on my end.
Went to second job. His only issue was he needed to type his
password into the password field. His machine was really dragging
though, I took out AVG (who even puts that on a Mac????) and it
perked up a little. Switched him over to IMAP and left his machine
downloading 10,000 messages. Why wasn't POP3 erasing them when he
deleted them? So weird. Of course it's frontier DSL so he's plodding
along at the best of times don't see many people with that service
anymore. Yuck. Good luck erasing all those messages for real this
time.
Came back here, did a kitty walk before it got dark. Getting cold at
night!
Checked sites, ate dinner.
Two calls, one who decided to get a new laptop because they don't
make her battery anymore? Huh? She said she looked but somehow I
doubt that? So she's going to do that before I go over there. Fine.
And another who just needed some hand holding around malwarebytes.
And it's 8:00.
So looking ahead the normal stuff tomorrow like shopping and seeing
my parents. Then game, we think we're going to do it this time for
sure. Baring any major accidents of course.
Then Saturday is the other game, have all my ideas ready for it.
We'll have Sean's birthday as well, as it's the 15th so he can get
his gifts. They're all wrapped of course.
Then sunday is the one job.
I'll also need to do another pour. I think I have enough for a
second try, and while the first try did come out pretty good it
was not aligned just right and the color is okay but maybe it could
be better. Figured, why not give it a shot, and just give him the
best one. So I'll do that.
Otherwise, yeah, nothing much planned at this point. Don't need to
do the lawn or leaves yet.
So that's about half October done. See you next time.
