Fri:
Spent much of the day doing cert stuff, but I guess I got done what
Don wanted. He was like "so what have we learned after doing all
this?" and I was like, "Well, you tell me Don you wanted me to do
all this weird stuff others (who are more learned in certs) had
already done and we knew certain things didn't work that's why we
made the patch and I'm still not sure this is exactly what you
wanted soooooooo...."
Another haul!? Neat. Ugh, I have so much stuff now. Have to bring
some to my parents during the week.
Did the shopping, saw my parents. Cider is back! Yay!
Came back here, checked sites.
Sean canceled game, he wasn't up to running it. He is back teaching
again so it's not too surprising.
Did more Remnant II instead.
Then the same, but with more friends. Need to get into those back
rooms!
Sat:
Checked sites.
Started Neil's print.
Did a bit of cleaning.
Did some outside stuff. Little more chopping, picked another
container of grapes. There are even more to pick, lots more, but
they are very high in the air. I need someone with a crane of some
kind, that kind you can stand on? Does it have a specific name? It
probably does. Anyway, one of them to come and gently untangle all
the grape vine and then put it on a lower structure so we can easily
harvest them. Oh well.
Moved 2 trees. Stay alive little ones.
Ate lunch.
Remnant II.
The print came out ok!
Did some painting of the gifts and glued Mizzy's.
Parents came, had the Lackadaisy cartoon and then movie.
Then more xbox with the others.
Sun:
Started part 2 of the print. It's a big one and will take most of
the day. Fingers crossed.
Did a bit of yard work, grass was too wet to cut. I mean I could but
my mower is made of electrons.
Checked sites, read stories.
Print is proceeding.
Did a kitty walk.
Tried no man's sky again as there was a recent big update. Figured
maybe they snuck a bug fix or two in there. It actually... works? I
take it all back. The latest update to No Man's Sky has (seemingly)
fixed all my previous issues! I went to two planets in a row and the
ground loaded in, and my controller works! There is a strange "lag"
sometimes, like I'll change direction and then keep going in the
same direction or it doesn't take a button press because it's lagged
out but it's loads better than it was. Just played for an hour,
found a water world. Maybe they do care... Thought the water world
would be nice for a base, I can go right out into the water and
such. Then I realized, huh, not much land = not many resources
normally found on land. Had to fly around a lot. Oh well, that's
okay.
The grass was mostly dry in the afternoon so I went and cut the
front.
In between all these things above I did a crap ton of painting.
Mizzy's gift is ret-2-go. It glued together fine and is as black as
I can make it. Sean's is looking okay and must be assembled. It
doesn't exactly fit together. Sigh. That's going to be a problem.
The outside came out great, would not change much of anything. The
color came out fine, the artifacts are few. Very pleased with it.
The inside though, I don't know. The saving grace is that a lot of
the inside is covered by the outside! So I guess it's okay.
Something happened to the print I only noticed after putting paint
on. Strange bands around the whole thing. I should have sanded them
down. Or printed it again? I don't know. But I'm moving forward
he'll just have to deal with it. Naturally pictures will have to
wait a few months. I could print it again I guess, make it a bit
smaller so the other halves fit together better? I wonder.
Just have to finish Neil's and I'll be in good shape. Start thinking
of those lists, family!
Bit more NMS, still working fine. That controller thing is annoying
me though. It doesn't seem to be a bandwidth issue or anything,
holding the controller closer doesn't help. Very odd. Maybe I'll
mess with the controller settings in Steam again, now that it works
better something there could help? I don't know exactly how I left
it after last time after all.
Print finished, looks really good. Now to order a few things to
finish it up. We're only half done with it, people. I have no idea
how exactly I'm going to combine them. Maybe a thin metal rod? Hey
that could actually work. I wanted it transparent to look like it
was floating but that now seems impractical. I really should have
removed some of the detail in the center to have an easier time of
it. Stupid linear time, why do you always betray me in this way???
I think Oliver is constipated again. I gave him 3x his medicine
(spaced hours apart, not just one dose 3x as large. I don't know
what that would do to him) and we'll have to see how he does
tomorrow. Poor kitty. He's straining to go and leaving, uh, things
around the house.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Made my calls. Dropping off the laptop I've had forever on my
kitchen table as she's right down the street from setup guy. Yay, a
2-3 hour job, I love it so much already. Gonna be a long day.
Mon:
I think Oliver is feeling better. He was pretty dumpy yesterday but
he came right to see me when I got up. Ate a little. I gave him more
meds instead of gas, as that's the priority right now. Also looked
into kitty fiber. Huh, it's a thing. Mostly pumpkin I guess. Maybe
it's time to see if he'll take a bit of it. Seems like you have to
give them a lot and it's tough enough getting him to eat the food I
do give him just out of the can. Humm. You can add it to water but
that seems pretty wasteful. I guess we'll see, something must be
done.
The one I saw wasn't flavored, so he wouldn't take it with water in
the morning but maybe one that was, turning water into like a
chicken water? Maybe he would lap that up? Hummmm.
Work today was trying to load a new build after watching a demo of a
feature that seems reduntant to me. It's just smart cards, without
the smart card. All it saves is typing your username and password.
It's kinda dumb. Anyway, got what we thought was going to be a full
demo of the new challenge password stuff. Nope, only half a demo,
basically. Sigh. So all I can test of it is, uh, what I tested
before with the fixture. Great. At least, I would.
The two machines I put it onto both went into the reboot loop and
then crashed out. Great. The developer is looking into it, he said
the other team can't reproduce it. Uh, really? I just did twice by
accident.
Updated the test cases as well, so at least I'm ready for what I can
test. Wonder when the other part will be done.
Went to drop off the laptop, had to wait a bit but she did arrive.
Answered a few questions.
Then the horribleness. You know, these wouldn't take three hours if
people, I don't know, knew anything? Like where their office key
was? Or their passwords. MS doesn't help. Office 2016 is activated
and shows his email address. But is it tied to his account so I can
download it again to the new device? Nope! Great. So actually moving
his stuff was almost the fastest part, trying to get his 2 printers
to work, and separate scanner, and passwords, took more time. I'll
see if I can find him a copy of office and just read the number to
him before the trial period is over.
Got home about 8:30. Love that. Nice and dark out, neat.
Ate a quick dinner, checked sites and ebay for the guy. At least, I
tried to. What he has just flat out doesn't exist. In the US anyway.
Oh I could get a copy of home and business from australia, that's
fine. How did he even get this product? I finally found him a
copy of home and business from 2019. I figure I can image the
DVD, remotely download it, and put in the key without having to go
over there. Or if the timing is right I could. Depends on when I get
it. Stupid MS. I hate you so much. For so many reasons.
And went to bed! Yay!
Oh I got a call but she wasn't available today. She dropped here
machine months ago and is just now calling me about it. Sigh.
Tues:
Did a bunch of useless testing today. Srayas got the devices working
for me with a sort of a hack, so I started the test. I did one
machine just fine.
I then moved to the other machine, and realized something important.
I accidentally pasted garbage into the field where the challenge
password was supposed to go. Figuring this was a valid test I added
it to the test cases and went on. It still worked.
Oh wait.
I realized once again, as I had so many months ago and this is the
problem with starting a project so early as Don loves to
do, you forget everything you learned by the time you're ready to do
the thing. Doing what I'm doing? Manually doing stuff? It's not the
SCEP stuff we're trying to test. So the field on the page? Totally
useless. Will never be used. Waste of effort by everyone involved.
Neat. We need the full solution to do anything. Such a waste.
Mini-haul, I didn't expect it to be cleaned out just yet, they're a
day early. Usually it's a day late. So I only got the second half as
the first was picked up already. Went to grab some out of the
freezer for my parents, "didn't I have a lot more in here?" I'm
pretty sure I'm half cleaned out. Was it Ken? He was in recently. No
one else (of the 3 people that even visit the lab) would have done
so. It must have been him. What, did he cart a whole bagload away? I
mean, sure, it's fine, there's still plenty for me to eat but a
head's up would have been nice. You know, a courtesy or whatnot?
"Hey can I take half your stuff?" Would that be so hard?
So I dropped off less than I would have at my parent's place.
Came back home. On the way turning into my street I saw a fedex man
with a large, heavy box. I screeched to a halt, rolled down my
window, and shouted to him "hey mister, looks like you've got a pretty
big package there! He threw the box in the air, high fived
me, caught the package in one hand while giving me a thumbs up with
the other, I did a wheelie (yes, in my bolt they can do that) and
tore off down the street, three pairs of sunglasses on.
True story.
Checked sites.
Got a PC ready for the guy near Heather's house. Huh, my other two
towers don't have drives. Guess it's the one I got --- in Feb/22???
Sheesh. Finally am I right? I'll bring it to him tomorrow. Yay, two
setups in one week. Be still my heart.
Oh yeah, Oliver is doing fine. After giving him a bit more medicine
the last two days he's been eating, not straining around the house,
and acting normal. Still going to look into fiber for him. I moved
the box they like too. They use the box out in the garage the most.
But it's not accessible all the time. Are they waiting until it is?
That would cause problems, no? So I put it in the breezeway. They've
found it again, we'll see if that helps too. Humm his current food
is 3% fiber. Maybe I can get a food with a higher fiber content? I
want something he'll eat, not a powder he'll ignore. There are fiber
treats...
Wait, "perfect digestion" food only has 4%? That's not a lot.
Did xbox as usual for Tues.
Wed:
Actually got some of a chapter done today. The issue of opening the
safe, which Dean did because my guys would not have been able to.
Believe me, I checked. But what to have them do next?
Cleaned up a lab a little, they're going to clean the other side
pretty soon and I wanted my side to be the standard. Those slobs
over there! Boo slobs!
Not much else, work wise.
Dropped off the PC, he had a fraction of the stuff to move and no
stupid office to try and get working. Also an SSD. So it only took
about an hour. Nice.
Came back here, checked sites, ate dinner.
Did a tiny bit of Remnant II.
Then a kitty walk.
No calls. Going tomorrow to see "I dropped my laptop" lady.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Then some No Man's Sky. Found a decent ship! And of course wandered
around.
Thurs:
An extra meeting apart from the usual today. Then the usual one.
Doing the plants of course.
The fridge got restocked, looking forward to next mon/tues as that's
the date on things.
Did a tiny bit of work on the chapter, but I didn't get too far.
The lab cleaning is going to happen next thursday. I started moving
my stuff out of the freezer. I mean I'll be there, but just in case,
let's not have someone open it up and just start chucking my stuff.
I can go back to stuffing it full once the clean is complete.
Went to second work. We think her problem is her keyboard, it made
her machine go to sleep? I left her with a keyboard and mouse, she's
going to use it a few days and see what happens. Sounds good.
Came back here, checked sites. Had dinner. Had a kitty walk.
No calls.
Not much going on for tomorrow that I can see. I have enough to go
to the bank, and I'll look into a fiber food for Oliver instead of
treats. If there's nothing I'll just order the treats for him. One
variety or another.
Then seeing my parents, and game that we didn't do last week.
Over the weekend I want to do more gluing of Sean's gift. I say more
but I haven't actually done any. Order the stuff for Niel's, cut the
back yard, maybe find any more grapes now ripe and near the ground.
Have my parents over. Play more NMS. The usual stuff. Cleaning.
40 minutes on the phone with iMac lady because she can't be bothered
to figure out how to properly plug in her USB hub. Neat.
More No Man's Sky. Found a nice ship. 30 minutes or so later I
crested a rise and found the exact same ship, same name, but A rank
instead of B. Melted that B rank ship down so fast you guys.
See you next week!
