Fri:
Went into work in the morning. Got the D7.7 testing done. I knew
there wouldn't be much. And as I've already done all of it again and
again, the setup on the devices was pretty much already there.
Nothing new. And why would there be? The version they chose for the
final build was 4 days after the pre-release. What really changed in
four days? Okay a lot for me personally but not so much for a
codebase of this size, I'm guessing. But I did my usual "two models
at the same time" trick and it was fine.
Glad I went in, got a huge haul. Mostly breakfast stuff, TBH. But
lots and lots of chocolate milk. It won't go bad still sealed will
it? Because it's going to take me a week and some more to drink all
this. I took some home for the weekend.
Came back here for lunch and resting times.
Took a nap.
Watched some movies.
Went to bed.
Sat:
Slept better last night, which is a sure cause of my feeling better.
Bummed around, got caught up on stuff I hadn't done since Wednesday
night.
Feeling better.
Played some stuff, watched some stuff.
Felt up to Xbox with the others. We beat some bosses. But I sat out
the great electricity run. Believe me, I was doing the group a
favor. Who built that huge "machine" thing that makes lightning chase
you down a million flights of stairs? I mean, yes, I know the
developers of the game built it, I mean in that world, what was the
canon reasoning of the inhabitants of that world choosing to build
such a device? Was it built for something else and is now
malfunctioning? There's no indication of such, and you can only turn
it on once. It chases you and then turns itself off, never to be
turned on again. It's a huge device. But it seems to serve no
purpose. So odd.
Sun:
Bit of excitement last night! Yes, the very thing you don't want to
hear.
I was awoken in the night (after sleeping for hours. Yes hours. At a
time, even. Will wonders never cease?) And my clock was blinking.
Blink. Blink. Blink. We must have lost power a minute. No big deal.
Then the next blink didn't come. It didn't come! No blink! Then the
beeps. Oh my goodness, the beeps. You know how many UPS units I
have? All of them were telling me "daddy, daddy, no juice! No juice
daddy!" so I had to get out of bed, find the flashlight, go
downstairs, the Big Mac is already off... did it work correctly and
power down? Good question. Then I had to try and figure out how to
power the mini down. (I have since figured out I didn't have the
setting for it to turn off automatically, for some bizarre
reason, turned on. I do now) I had to move the HDMI splitter thing
because it needs power, it wasn't plugged into a battery port but
just the surge port. Sigh. Anyway, got that one turned off correctly
at least.
Reported the outage, yeah they know and it might be 1:00 PM? Thanks.
Went back to bed. When next I woke (again after glorious, glorious
actual sleepy time) it was flashing again, so power was back. It has
remained on since. It wasn't raining, it's not the middle of winter,
what happened?
Got up at 9:30 because cats were hungry. I report progress. I was
breathing easier. I am super tired. I am hungry. I have not been
these things. Which is weird. If there was a pilot and he came over
the intercom saying "attention passengers, seems we've lost two,
perhaps three of our engines. Well, not to panic, I know just what
to do. We're going to stay in the air far longer than we would have
normally and see if they fix themselves. Also this keeps us away
from that nasty oil based fuel but we don't need that, right? So
just sit back as the cabin fills with smoke and this loud music
plays to keep you awake and we'll all get through this. Huh, now
what does that flashing light mean, was that flashing before? What
do you mean I forgot to turn the-" You would feel that they,
perhaps, failed pilot school. No. Land the plane, figuratively in
this case. Make me both tired and hungry beyond normal measure so
you have lots of fuel and nappy time to fight the problem. Why try
to make the opposite happen? So weird, biology. Fix it.
Anyway, I managed to do more things. I even put on clothes, so I
could give outside birds fresh water, and look for any berries.
There are none, sadly. It's over. So it looks like 5 bags worth this
year. Plus one pie already made and consumed. Not bad. Now for the
sad task of cutting them down. So we'll never know. Know
what you ask? We don't ask. Now the grapes just need to
ripen. Come on, you've had plenty of rain this year, you should be
nice and juicy. It was about this time I gave them to my mother so
they should be ripe soon, if history is any indication. But they're
still totally green. How long does it take for them to ripen? I
didn't really pay attention last year.
Set all the clocks, checked sites, did all the reading. Ate lunch
because I was hungry again! How does that happen?
Worked on fixing the Gantz movie subtitles. Whoever decided that
l33tspeek should be shown in the subtitles of a movie should please
have something very unpleasant happen to them today please?
Sunday stuff, just keeping it light, man. Let's not push it. Worked
on the xmas gift, mostly sanding and a bit of gluing. Need filler to
do much more. Humm, need to get the labor day stuff soon enough
anyway, I guess I'll just wait until then?
Got ready for tomorrow, agreed to do a bit of xbox but stopped
earlier than normal to be sure I was in bed on time. Gotta make up
that sleep.
Mon:
I may actually be paid for my sick time. How about that?
And there's even more news, that which came out of freaking nowhere.
I'll probably be hired. Nice. The salary number she quoted me won't
double what I make now, but let's just say this- it won't have had
to be much higher to have done so. Meaning: They've basically been
criminally underpaying me for years now? Well, whatever, I was happy
in 2015 to even have a job, you'll remember in that time my repair
business was going away and hey, I still have many, many years to
go. So as long as I can stay there a few years won't have made too
much difference. Still, with Adnan saying stuff like he was going to
make less and they had to renegotiate his package when he was hired,
I wasn't expecting that!
Otherwise nothing new came in.
Rained.
Came back here, no calls, but I do have to call the printer people.
Checked sites, had dinner.
Ah, printer guy called me. Suggested a laser printer rather than
throwing money at a crappy old inkjet. Down with inkjet. He's going
to go looking, I gave him a price range. I mean, even if you get a
new b/w no frills $120 brother you've at least got a new, b/w no
frills $120 brother instead of just a single part of an inkjet
printer that may not even solve your problem.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Then xbox with the others. We're fighting a big dog thing. Didn't go
well.
Tues:
Rainy and cold, the perfect day for the xerox barbecue. Started
writing the next chapter, but I need to develop where I'm actually
sending these guys. Went to the outing, there was of course
perfectly good food in the trash. Some guy with a clipboard, rather
than a cart so I guess he was just chucking stuff. More on that
later. Had some okay food, heard some too loud music, stood around
with my "ride" because I had no idea how to get back to where I
needed to be. We finally went back.
The food was still there, whew. Every can had stuff in it. Every.
Can. Why? Why not just use one can? Anyway, pulled out boxes of
stuff, yes boxes. I have snacks for weeks, not chips I'm more
talking about donuts. Healthy stuff! Brought food home, still
have a ton in there so my parents can have some this week. No salad,
oddly. Everything else. Mac and Cheese, box meal, the usual chicken
and burgers and meats in a bun. Did he... dump the milk? I found so
many empty milk bottles, in the garbage of course not the recycle
bin. But soda that was unopened. Why? Who dumps milk. Did he
really stand there and dump milk down the drain? Why? And why
not the soda? So bizarre. Oh, like 5 muffins, 3 bags of pretzels, at
least one cheesecake. Like I said. BOXES.
Once I got back I worked with the developer guy to try and find out
why my server wouldn't let me log in as an SMB user. Good old
windows. Love it. Didn't manage it. Sorry dude.
Went to after work job. Plugged in the router. 'Oh it's so ugly I
can put it on the floor right?' One: how often are you in this
crappy, messy room and two: did you not look at the picture on the
box? She got one that's totally overkill for her needs. Some gaming
router. Honestly, why? And then it was "oh, show me how to save a
file again." How long have you used computers? 20 years? 30? More?
It's not that difficult.
Got back here.
Checked sites, ate dinner. Got ready for tomorrow.
Then xbox, back to the doggo fight. We beat it and now are fighting
giant rolling cubes. That didn't go well at all.
Wed:
Not much at work.
Finished the chapter, worked a little on where I want them to go.
But need more detail.
Yeah, really nothing work wise.
Did second job, looked at his 6 PCs, all slow as heck.
Just home in time for game. Had a quick dinner.
Ended pretty early, Stan still isn't doing too well. We did a few
things though.
Turned out Stan had kidney stones. That guy just can't catch a
break.
Thurs:
Only work thing was a meeting, oh, and more haul? What? I've gotten
so much food this week, are they making up for that one week or two
it was empty? So weird. I had to bring some to my parent's house the
fridge is just so full.
Had the meeting, very little on the backlog now.
Almost finished the next chapter. Know what I want to do next, I
think. It's gonna be so good.
Came back here, checked sites. Hey, it's been a week now. Feeling
good.
Checked the laptop I got 2 days ago. Running chkdsk it's been
running "replacing invalid security id with default security id for
file ...." for maybe twenty minutes now. Great.
One call, someone I haven't heard from in quite some time.
Tomorrow; shopping, probably still no bank. Finish the chapter. See
my parents.
Probably cut the back lawn over the weekend.
The PC is booting again, but the permissions for everything is all
screwed up. So a bunch of stuff crashes when it opens, I did finally
get permissions for the user folder right but it won't let me change
anything about the windows folder. So I can't go any further with
it. Stupid thing.
Made my call. Going there saturday morning, hopefully not too bad.
That's about it. Have a good weekend, won't be many before it's
raking leaves time so enjoy it. See you next week.
