2023-05-18:
Fri:
Just the one feature, it's giving me trouble. I found out if you
plug a USB drive into the machine it crashes the whole deal. Neat.
Maybe that should have been caught before it got to my level? Or by
someone else, as that's not exactly what I'm testing? Just a
thought.
No writing, it took all day. Trying to get the feature the just
plain work, two of the three machine are different, but I think I
figured out why late in the day. I may have "registered" with the
wrong "server" because that's a thing. You have to put in a number
and I put in 29 but I should have put in 30. That's always the way
isn't it?
Shopping, saw my parents.
Then home, sites, then game. We sort of beat up a water monster, but
it's not actually clear if it's gone or what. Neil's character did
something, and it's gone for the moment, but we don't know if that's
a final solution. We're investigating an old factory right now, but
apart from being a source of chemical runoff I don't think it's
related. We stopped early, Stan is doing well with his recovery but
it'll be awhile before he's back at 100%. He may be dropping out to
go back to running his own game, in which case his character would I
guess go back to being an NPC.
Sat:
Cut the front lawn for the first time this year. Mower still works,
so that's good. Moved the snow blower to the secondary position.
Weeding, they're doing well there. Berry bushes are all leafed out,
soak up that sun and make me some sweet berries you guys!
Found the pen, I'm pretty sure. It was in an... unlikely place. The
end of the driveway. Is it possible I did something dumb like put it
on top of the car, didn't collect it, then drove away with it on
there? I haven't found it yet, what other conclusion can I draw
given the pen was out there? It's not unheard of, one of my
customers did that with a laptop. Still can't imagine why I would
have done such a thing though.
Cleaning the house a bit.
More reading.
Lunch.
Legacy. I made it to winter. I'll have fun subverting all the stupid
puzzles and complaining about how gaudy everything looks in the
story.
Sun:
Lilac Fest in the morning, and some of the afternoon. I guess it's
not really about the flowers. We walked more around the booths so go
figure. There was perhaps more to see? I saw a greenhouse of some
kind in the distance and there were rides we didn't get that close
to. But my mother does have a fractured bone in her foot so walking
was painful for her.
Then back here.
Reading.
Dinner.
Getting sunday things done.
Getting ready for tomorrow.
Mon:
No haul, stuff in the cases is still dated 5/12. Odd, they're
usually much better about that.
Checked later in the day, it had been changed but also nothing in
the trash but really hot corn chips. I'll try some tomorrow, if
they're too hot for me I'll happily have a bird or two eat them
instead.
Finished up the card tests. Also got the nasty incorrect server out
of there and finished the login tests. That's 2/3 down. I would have
finished the third, onedrive, test, but I need a number only someone
else can get me. So maybe tomorrow.
That took most of the day.
Came back here, checked sites.
Did Reach with the others.
Tues:
Had a morning meeting. I think we're finally getting close to
finalizing the spec for the feature in the current release, that
will not be put into action until the next one. Great job. That took
an hour.
Had the usual Joe meeting.
They thought they figured out why the card swipe wasn't working and
worked to fix it. Nope, they did not. It's doing the same thing.
Did some writing, but I forgot to transfer the latest screenshots so
whoops, only did about 1/3 of it.
Came back, checked sites, ate dinner.
One call, about an hour and a half on the phone because he just
loves downloading random crap. Finally got it all squared away.
More reading.
Wed:
A nice haul today, two salad, three potato salad I'll eagerly hand
over, and more.
Still didn't get a number, the guy that does it is out until next
week apparently. Sigh.
We're getting people moved into the new area. Where I pass through
on the way to the trash barrels. Do not want. But I suppose they do
want to use the space, they must have spent a pretty penny
refurbishing it.
Talked replacing the linux box and other stuff with Ken.
Wrote two chapters, got through the second trial, using my own
methods of doing stuff the developers I guess didn't see coming? I
only solved one of the puzzles in the "correct" way in the game, and
reflected that in the story. The second trial is really messed up.
And that's about it.
Came back here, checked sites and videos. Ate dinner and did more
reading.
Thurs:
I got the number for the feature I wanted to test, so I finished
that off. All D7.7 stuff is done for the moment. Only a quick check
on the final version and it can go out.
Had the status meeting, no onedrive meeting I hope we're done with
them?
Finished a chapter.
The new people haven't moved in yet. Just boxes. It's odd, how are
they working without their stuff? If they're all working from home,
then pack their stuff up and let them take it- never to return.
Got a tool Don wants me to look at. Whoops, I can't open it, windows
won't let me. I asked how to get around that, no answer. Oh, I could
maybe look it up myself. But here's the thing: I don't want to.
I don't even know the purpose of the tool. I think it's just to make
sure the guy that wrote it knows how to do the thing it does so it
can be incorporated into XDM. But that's just my guess. It's nothing
to do with the actual test. It's a proof of concept. There's no
reason I would need to do anything with it. Don just likes to tell
me to do stuff.
That's about it I think.
Looking ahead, probably won't be busy tomorrow, maybe I'll look at
the tool?
Do the shopping, see my parents. I actually have no idea if we're
doing game friday or it's moved to Saturday or what's going on.
We'll just have to see I guess.
No calls, so hopefully no second work over the weekend. Naturally I
have to do yard stuff. Nothing else major I think? I'm probably
forgetting something.
See you next week.
