Fri:
We got a fix for the onedrive bugs, so I checked that out. They seem
to be solved, let's not do any more testing so we stop finding bugs!
(This is the Trump method of testing)
Made and tried to start working on the ARM cases. There's a lot of
them. Like 7 printers, both PLC and PS drivers (and why is that
still a thing again? We don't have this on Mac, so clearly it
doesn't need to exist. Yet it persists in the windows world. Why?)
but at least once I have the files I can bang them out in short
order. Get ready for a lot of coloring pages I guess. I couldn't
actually do it because the drivers don't have the "right" kind of
signing and I need to run a command to get them to install but the
"secure boot" won't let me. Dude it's a VM. Stop doing stuff that
has no impact on security, MS. None. It just annoys people.
Did I do anything else? Nope, I guess not. Just ARM stuff and not
getting anywhere with it. Seems about right.
Did the shopping, got cat stuff, and saw my parents.
Home for game, we defeated the fox guy behind all the trouble but
are no closer to unraveling why it was done. Also, he run
away. Silly fox, you should have just taken me up on my offer to
repent your actions and do good in your life. Now we will have to
beat you up again as a reaccuring character instead of having wacky
adventures as a sidekick. Anyway the plan seems pointless and
random, and must be part of a bigger scheme. I mean they were mining
for gold that wasn't there, no amount of magic is going to fix that.
Sooner or later the bills would have to be paid, and the work would
stop. I can only think it was some kind of test to see how riled up
they could get the spirits of the place to get, and what they would
do afterwords. See how powerful they could be when motivated?
Otherwise, yeah, not sure. Maybe it'll come out in the end though. I
did get a new companion I can summon out of the whole thing. Very
sus, probably won't. He said he would help, but demanded I hand over
any and all magical artifacts we find for his trouble. Uh, that
doesn't sound greedy at all. Oh he says it's to keep them safe and
out of the wrong hands, which may be true, but if so don't act like
a mob boss fitting me with cement shoes while offering your help!
Started the next adventure, tracking down a 20 year old adopted boy
for his ghostly mother. We think we've found him, and Neil's
character is posing as his mother which will have no repercussions
whatsoever once we meet. None. Clearly the thing to have done.
Sat:
Put up the new bathroom decoration. Looks good there, welcome to you
new home little mermaid!
Cleaned up, parents not coming tonight though.
Checked sites.
Did some Legacy.
Then some RCG2.
Then some reading of Marcy's journal.
Then it was time to go.
We started our next mission, but have barely even gotten into the
city really. We're currently hiding out in the sewers, like the true
heroes of old. Wait. I learned that these "elders" are basically
everywhere, so I question the wisdom of even doing anything here.
Even killing the ones "ruling" this city, a thing a holy man such as
my character isn't comfortable with in the first place, more will
just be appointed by the ones left in other cities. Nothing would
change. We're hopeful there's some kind of demon still hanging
around but apparently this all started hundreds of years ago so has
probably just been self perpetuating. I'm not hopeful about actually
freeing this planet from tyriny. I mean the resistance group has
been trying for all these hundreds of years. So I guess we'll see
once we get up there what the real situation is.
Sun:
Researched a way to keep the kids out of the stove as I discovered
in getting their next bag of dry food out they discovered it and
tore the bag to pieces. If it's stale it's your own fault, kids. I
decided on a piece of glass set over the hole will be sufficient.
I also looked at the pipes. The exhaust pipes on the furnace have
holes in them. Neat. And the neatest thing of all was the big pipe
not being totally shoved into the hole on the column. Has it just
been exhausting into the house for goodness knows how long? Also,
those pipes get hot as I discovered trying to tape up the holes. Why
am I losing so much heat out the top of my house? So when my father
next comes over he will have to look at the pipes and tell me what
to buy. Alternately, I could probably wait until spring when it's
not running, take the pipes apart, and see exactly which sections to
replace and then bring them or make measurements or something and
get what I need that way. How are they rusting out anyway? Are they
not aluminum? I shoved the big pipe in as best as could (that's what
she said!) but it's not great. I need a longer pipe, really. (That's
also...)
Checked sites.
Did a bit of Legacy, but mostly Lower Decks, as Sean gave me S2 to
watch. In trying to solve the latest "puzzle" in Legacy I realized
their design is not great, and also something quite important. The
enemies scale with your level. More on that in a moment. I solved a
puzzle in a very bizarre way because hitting the so called
"switches" with spells doesn't actually activate them. No, you have
to use the basic "spell" which I remind you doesn't exist in the HP
universe. Because they don't go around killing people in the forest,
but I digress. I was like, "no, that can't be what they intended..."
I hit the so called switch with every spell I had and nothing
happened, totally forgetting about the basic one I had. I mean in my
mind, if it's a switch hitting it with a spell that makes things get
pulled towards or pushed away from you would do it, right? Right?
Not so much. They made it so only the "basic" cast would trip the
switch. Which in my mind is very dumb. So I hopped through the weird
"portal" they like to use, carefully moved along the edges of it,
and jumped to the other side bypassing the developer's "solution" of
rotating the floor, because who would think of floor rotation when
standing in a room? I mean I have a broom, for goodness sakes, let
me use it! Oh, and here's another complaint. Use mechanics in the
same way. I came upon another "portal" and all of them were used up
until that point to progress. You find a portal and you go back and
forth through it (for reasons) to reach the next area. So I figured
this one also must be passed through to progress as well. There was
the high ledge, there was the box. Nope. Watching the video (after
like 10 minutes of dicking around with the thing not being able to
pass through it no matter what I did) it turned out it was to just
get the "treasure" (i.e. Random Item) from the box and then you
leave. I was trying to get over the barrier or something, having
gotten the treasure 9 minutes and 30 seconds before. Why did you
design it this way? Keep it consistent at least! After beating up
the big boss for minutes on end I went back to the movie to see if
the other guy had so much trouble with it, was I playing in the
"wrong" way? He didn't seem to, though the boss still took a
pounding. Figured out why! His boss was level 18 while mine was
level 30. Neat. But damage doesn't scale up that much, that I could
see, so I was dealing with a boss more than twice as difficult. No
wonder I had such a slog. The first game I ever ran into that did
this was Lunar. Great game otherwise, but that enemy leveling thing
sucks. I remember cheating so hard to kill the final boss.
So hard you guys. Don't do it. (Oh go ahead and cheat, more power to
you, might as well do it when you can.) In Legacy or any other game.
If I've put time and effort into exploring (you know, the thing you
make us do with these stupid invisible pages and statues, and hidden
rooms, and on and on and on) and that makes my "levels" go up, let
me steamroll the enemies. If I run into problems, let me grind a few
levels and come back and stomp all over them. It's a single player
game. Let me play it how I want. Don't make me come back to find the
bad guy is now somehow stronger as well. How is that a power
fantasy? It's not. And it makes leveling useless because I might as
well not have bothered, if I'm going to have more trouble with a
higher level enemy than a lower level one, I'm going to artificially
keep my levels low in that case once I realize this. I mean, right?
Of course! It's dumb. And I hate it. I did enjoy throwing the stupid
statues off the platform instead of outright beating them. Luring
them to the edge, freezing them, and then shoving them was quite
enjoyable. Byeeeeeeeeeeeee! Enjoy the climb back up, losers! OH and
here's another stupid thing I noticed. I was sneaking
around and was able to use my instant kill spell on the statues.
Because I guess they can see and be tricked by me sneaking around?
Sure. But then later I did the same thing, and it didn't give me the
prompt. So wait, you clearly allowed it over here (points) but then
went out of your way to code that out as a solution over here?
(points again) What sense does that make? Again, let me play how I
want. If you're going to reward stealth and give me an instant kill
for getting behind someone, (again which makes no sense the magic
wouldn't care how you use it, Hermione wasn't "behind" Nevil when
she used the spell on him) then let me do it everywhere not just in
some places. Changing the rules mid-dungeon just makes you look like
jerks, and physical reality just doesn't work that way, breaking
immersion. I was so annoyed when I snuck around and it didn't work.
Like, so much.
What I did like was the mods I put in. Standard stuff. Shorting the
skirts, lengthening the hair. I was pretty bummed with how short all
the hair options were. Oh, I know why they did it. With all
the robes and scarves and boots you wear (wait boots?) it would have
been a clipping nightmare trying to physics enable all that. It
would have clipped all over the place, no one wants that. So all the
hair options are short. Well, I wasn't going to settle for that! So
I waited for modders to fix it. Turned off the robe and put on a
necklace instead of the scarf. Now I have proper hair. Tifa's hair,
to be exact. Yes, that Tifa, from FF7. At least that's how it's
billed in the mod description. Man, I need to finish my playthrough
of FF7 Remake. Now that has some nice mods, talk about shorter
skirts... What was I saying? Mods, right. Shorter skirts, longer
hair, and silencing a ton of dialog I've heard a million times
already. Now, no longer will an elf tell me I should be proud
of all the potions I've made (I haven't, I don't use them) or have
to ponder how inconvenient travel was before some stone head
apparently invented floo powder. Good stuff.
Got ready for tomorrow. No calls, but going to fan guy.
Then did warframe. Still no relic we want.
Mon:
Ken had to mess around with settings because I couldn't reach the
secure boot stuff at my "level" so I waited until that was done and
got busy with the million of prints I have to make. It went a lot
faster once I had all the files made. Of course something had to go
wrong. I sent a test page to one of the newer devices and it was
fine. I started to send more jobs figuring it would take no more
time than the previous tests. Whoops, all the jobs went into pause
mode, and the printer is... demanding... paper it already has? So
weird. Okay, I guess. I tried a few things and moved on. I have many
more printers to test so if that one model is skipped it's probably
fine. But the driver is so far okay. It, uh, prints out pages when I
hit print. Yeah, pretty exciting, right?
Did that all day, am I even half done? Sigh.
After work job was fine, put his two new fans in. As they were green
LED and his case was already green LED it's pretty bright. He said
it had been acting fine, so it really was just the fans and probably
overheating. His CPU fan is a dinky little thing honestly. It must
be counting on the two case fans to really move the air.
Back here I finished up Lower Decks. That cliffhanger though!
Made my call, but her machine was fine. Checked sites.
Started Prodigy. And believe me, only one of the characters (maybe)
qualifies for that moniker.
Tues:
Finished up the printing tests. Had to reload the one device to make
it print again. Just an upgrade didn't help. Great software, hope
we're shipping it soon.
Had an hour meeting with the level 3 folks about what to do with
stupid YSoft.
Had the new card demo, it was fine.
Hopefully done with the driver stuff, I've covered all the models.
And if they come back with the YSoft stuff I did being adequate,
it'll be over.
Checked sites, ate dinner.
Then xbox with the others.
Wed:
Not much to talk about today. Moved some new printers in, got them
powered on.
Looked at test cases but I pretty much had everything in place.
Did not get a new gabi software as promised. Aw, too bad.
Yeah, pretty boring.
Came back here, checked sites and ate dinner. Then more Legacy. Sort
of out and about in the world now, forget that school stuff. Right?
Right.
Nasty weather. It was green out one minute, suddenly boom it's
covered with white. Glad I wasn't out in it.
Thurs:
And so we lose another. Ted is retired now, he's cleaned out his
cube and will turn his laptop in tomorrow. We'll probably "soon"
lose Karen and Joe.
Anyway, did I accomplish anything today? Eh, probably not? Meetings
of course. Showed Louis our new machines. Put many bottles in the
cans for kids cans. No haul still. The food section is pretty empty
too, odd. Oh, I did get and install and test the gabi thing. It does
work better, but it still can't search the address book
consistently. Sigh. He's going to look into it. At least it let me
log in!
Went to see Ted off, a lot of people came he's been there a long
time. Very noisy, not really my place. Came back here.
Checked sites and videos. Let's look to the future.
Not sure what I'll accomplish tomorrow, but I'll do the shopping,
maybe remember to use my gift card this time instead of forgetting
like a dummy it was in my pocket. Probably no need to go to the
bank, but I'll see my parents. Then back here for game. We're
getting Stan back! He's healthy enough to play from his hospital
room it seems, so he's taking over our youngest member who was an
NPC. Maybe he'll want a talisman?
No calls so nothing for Saturday. I'll have my parents over.
And what's this? Our former pres is getting indicted? Over
something? Anything? At long last? I mean his lawyer is already in
prison for the thing he did. What other evidence do you need to put
him away as well? Let this be only the first, please, please get
this man behind bars already. The harm he's caused our country and
the world will be decades to fix, long after he's finally gone. He
needs to pay.
And on that note, that hopeful note for the future that maybe we
aren't on the worst timeline only worst adjacent, I say to
you, see you next week.
