2023-01-12:
freckle Fri:
Still pretty boring at work. Saved the one machine so it boots again.
And made a video detailing the "scan to" folder problem in the onedrive app.
Currently it works in a bizarre way, it doesn't enter the folder you touch,
it only enters the folder you touch on the arrow. It was one of
the first things we told them to fix and it's still there. It's annoying.
Anyway, they recently implemented a highlight of what you touch so I know
they can tell where the touch is, they just need to move the code that
enters the folder to that routine. Anyway, you can highlight a folder and
then enter another folder, but it's the last folder you highlighted that you
actually scan in to. Fix it.
Otherwise just some more DS stuff.
Oh and working on Aerith's staff for the person. They wanted a longer one
for a larger figure.
Shopping and back, saw my parents.
Sean decided no game, he's trying to do stuff for tomorrow and get the comic
done.
Checked sites, videos.
Then did xbox with the others. I hope you got your work done Sean! I'll be
expecting something amazing for the first adventure tomorrow.
Sat:
Straightened up.
Did a wizard run. Got the air stage for the first time. Seems more brutal
than the others, restarted almost at once.
Cleaned up the DS collection a little, took out the obvious sports games.
Sites and videos, lunch.
Worked on mom's valantine's gift, as that's the next thing coming up.
Left for game.
Sort of a short one, but it's just the intro to the system for the others,
so that's okay. They did fine, lots of people died, whoops and I bet the bad
guy isn't dead either.
Got second place looser in a game about a forest fire, I worked against the
game trying to keep everyone alive as long as possible instead of
burning them to death, because I'm not a psycho. At least, not in that way.
So the box said 15-30 minutes... nope. Snicker. I placed fire
where it was least likely to hurt everyone, because who thought a game about
the irreplaceable loss of trees and wildlife would be a good idea? And
everyone trying to burn everybody else's towers down, possibly with them
inside? Very weird game. It was pretty funny to play a game against how the
designers structured it and it's not something you can do in just every
game. But in this one I took great delight in doing so. But I'm a weirdo, so
take that as you will.
Watched Furious 7 and got home way too late.
Sun:
Started the print which is step one of the valentine's gift.
Checked sites.
Was reminded yesterday I hadn't done insurance pictures in a long time so I
did that.
Speaking of pictures, here's what I made Sean and Mizzy last year.
Worked on naming my pony files. Most of them are just random names and I
finally found a free program that would do what I wanted, show them to me
one at a time and let me rename them. Oh, sure the Finder could do it, but
when you name something it immediately goes into alphabetical order. So I
would be constantly going back up to the top. This program just lets you see
the image, rename it, hit enter, and shows you the next image. Nice.
Watched some stuff.
Two calls, a person I haven't heard from in years (and thank goodness for
that) yammering on about conference equipment I guess. That was 40 minutes.
She was a hard one to get away from when I worked for her before. Yap yap
yap yap where does it all come from? I have trouble stringing together two
sentences and some people can just go on and on about, basically, nothing.
Incredible.
Then another 40 minutes to discover another lady's printer wouldn't turn on.
Yay. I mean at least check that first before you call someone. Right? That
something turns on? I mean that's the least one can do, correct?
At least the print came out okay. A bit rough, I hope I can work around
that.
Got ready for tomorrow and went to bed. I'm not that tired yet but getting
in so late I'd like to make sure I get plenty of sleep tonight.
Mon:
No more food? What? Our section of the snack department was just gutted.
It's all gone. Every snack, every drink, every ice cream. Found a few things
in the trash but what happened? Why trash stuff but vanish the rest? I took
a short walk to the one that had been closed down to find it not closed
down. Guess that mystery was solved. Ah, so are we closing this one down?
Are there really that many more people over there now? I mean it's fine, I
can check the cans there just as easily as anywhere else. Just seems odd to
do it.
Anything else interesting happen? Well, I did write up a bug from before, as
Gina finally got back to me about it that the behavior was not ideal. I also
turned off a machine that was complaining about yellow toner and wouldn't go
to sleep, making the fan run at high speed which was very loud. Neat!
That's about it.
Came home, no calls thank you very much. Checked sites, ate dinner.
Worked on the valentine's gift. Not going to work out exactly as I hoped,
but then what does? I think I managed to compensate for that though, and
didn't screw it up so badly it can't be recovered from. We'll see.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Did some xbox.
Tues:
Oh, almost forgot, yesterday I found out how much my raise was going to be.
A whole 3 quarters per hour. That's right, 75 cent a roonies. That works out
to be 103.73% of my salary. Looks like inflation was 7% last year on average
meaning I'm now making 4% less than I was a year ago! Yay! Wait...
Some exciting things at work. Helped Christina with a script to add users to
the domain. She's trying to figure out why some software we gave to a
company is doing something at their site but not ours. Maybe it's number of
users? Doesn't seem to be.
Also a meeting, that was moved from Wednesday.
There was something else too, oh right Gina got back to me about something I
noticed so I wrote a bug about it, that was yesterday? I had to load up some
older software and prove my point that it should not work the way we've got
it working. Huh, I was proven right. How about that.
Otherwise just some DS stuff.
Damaged the gift, well, it damaged itself actually. Maybe it cooled too
fast? When I got home I thought about how to fix it. I think I can repair it
well enough I don't have to remake the whole thing. We'll see.
Checked sites, ate dinner.
Two calls, a new setup I thankfully don't have to do until Saturday and
printer lady who wants thursday. Both are, of course, half an hour away. At
least I won't get home at 7:00 or later tomorrow because setups usually take
2+ hours.
Xbox.
Wed:
Let's see, wrote another bug up I had found previously and they agreed to
actually fix it. It's just a string, don't get too excited. Attended a demo
for the add fax thing, where we talked about the proper way to fix some of
the bugs I found. Maybe not in the way that's easiest but that is best for
the customer? For once? Also attended a process meeting but it really wasn't
relevant to me. Whoops. Not going to that again.
Not too much else exciting I guess.
Came back here, gluing the gift seems to have worked out, I painted it, and
it should be okay?
Checked sites, ate dinner.
Got ready for tomorrow. Just one call today a checkup. Yuck. But he is
between myself and my saturday appointment so I said screw it, I'll bring my
lunch despite not doing that for like, years now. If it's going
to save me a half hour of driving I'll make do. It'll probably be a blizzard
with my luck.
Thurs:
Meeting day. Did not get the new onedrive app as promised but we did figure
out why the model office was having problems. It's another bug, I never ran
into it because of the way I have mine configured. Go figure.
Got the certs and PINs for some cards we got earlier. The password was some
random string of numbers and letters, yeah, no. I changed that crap right
away. Got them working, and gave two of them to someone else. That took a
bit for various reasons.
Got a last minute haul, not a bad one either. I decided to check after I
watered the plants at 3:30. I walked by the new place and had to keep on 'a
walking because the lady was right there changing the stuff out. Waited 15
minutes and went back, yoink. Two salads so I had one, I'll bring the other
one with me tomorrow, and the usual assortment of sandwiches. I brought the
two worst ones home with me, I'll have them on the road. (You need two
because it's just bread and a little filling. They're small) Still, the
first one of the year so looks like it'll continue. Thank you, god of the
trash cans!
The real meat of the day was the after work job. Drove 30 minutes in the
pouring rain (not snow, at least) to her house. The printer was at least out
of the box so I plugged it in. Found the color cartridge that was under the
bed, and put the paper in. It's an HP so it wanted me to use the app
to set it up. No thank you. I got it on the wi-fi manually and printed the
alignment page. or did I? Nope, it failed. What? A brand new HP
printer failing to do it's one job and print? Can't be. Looking at the page
I was concerned about a lack of color, but I pressed on. I opened up the HP
"smart" and said no a hundred times to HP's "would you like HP+?" "what
about this service?" "how about registering?" "How about..." No. I just want
a print queue thank you. And then the "smart" froze up with a white screen.
Neat. I added the device manually which seemed to work, meanwhile "smart"
crashed or something. It went away, anyway. Nice. Opening it did show the
printer though. So I printed my usual test page, three colored squares.
What I got out was... one colored square. A red one. No green or blue.
Sweet. This brand new printer is already busted. I cleaned it. Nothing.
Cleaned again. Nothing. Took the cartridge out and moistened it. Color came
out, blue it least. Printed the squares. Now I had a somewhat streaky green
square. Maybe
it has been loosened up? Cleaned it again. Nothing. Well, that's it, there's
nothing more I can do. Her choices now are: risk a new color cartridge and
hope it's not the printer. Call HP and see what they'll do for you. Take it
back and hope another one doesn't have the same flaw. I mean, what else can
I tell you?
But I can tell you: Don't buy an inkjet printer. Laser printer
only. Do it. Do it now.
Drove a half hour in the pouring rain and the dark home. Went through quite
a puddle too, at the bottom of the hill. Surprised me.
Checked sites.
Oh hey, Squeaker is in the pod! That's the first I've seen anyone use it
since I took the tree down and moved it.
No calls, thank goodness.
So, tomorrow I'll go shopping as usual, and see my parents. We'll probably
do warframe, no Jon so no game.
The two jobs Saturday and then probably having my parents over for a movie.
Then Sunday and my day off Monday I want to do the solo missions in
warframe. With my new super weapon I figure I've got a good chance to get
through them without getting too aggravated at the whole thing.
Whoops, forgot to post this so I'm doing it now, on Friday. See you next
week.
