Fri:
Worked on setting up Gabi again, but the server part isn't working. Emailed
the guy. Despite that part in my mind being the most stable because it just
has to accept a connection and serve data from a tiny web-server I just get
errors trying to connect to it. Wonderful. Why am I still doing gabi crap 3
years later and why is it always such a pain to set up?
Worked on the barcode printing thing. Got a baseline but our one device was
taken off that software so I'll need to load it into a different device
monday that will become free.
Had another meeting about the fax stuff. Is that it though, is it finally
over?
Last I did some setup work for a toner replacement test, do I even need to
replace the toner? Apparently we were sending the right information to
whatever is collecting it but there was a typo so it isn't getting read
properly. Whoops. So it's a minor fix for a minor product. But the
information is only sent once a day so now all I can do is wait.
Went shopping, then saw my parents.
Came back here, did game. We defeated the ghost thing with some effort, and
now I guess we're babysitting a man 5 years older than us? How did that
happen?
Sat:
Did a bit of cleaning and thinking about what card to add to my deck.
Then out to the first guy. He's the guy that got the lenovo that would only
boot if you tipped it over. Remember that? His dell sucks. It's
got a laptop HD in it, despite being an all in one, and despite reviews
being positive it was super slow. He didn't really have any problems apart
from it being super slow. Anyway good choice, not what I would have gone
with but you do you. Finally got back at lunch time.
Had lunch.
Back out. Second one was fine, he just had some minor problems which I
corrected with my signature style.
Came back here.
Figured out what to add to my deck. I decided on another attack card rather
than teleport. It would be many sessions before that spell was useful, but
having another way to get fire "over there" is useful right now.
Checked sites.
Watched a few things and ate dinner.
Mom fixed the sewing machine, at least I hope! For awhile there it
wouldn't pull the fabric, at least not going forwards. But it worked a
treat going... backwards? Wha? That doesn't seem right. If it moves
backwards the mechanism works. So why not forwards?
Then movie. Sorry to make you wait, dad!
Sun:
Got right to work sewing. It's coming together!
I got 4 of the six tiny pieces of cloth sewn together. Then my machine
wouldn't sew anymore. Great. Back or forwards. Grabs the cloth great
through, where it wasn't doing that last night. Needle goes up and down,
but no stitch goes into the farbic. How is that even possible? It grabs
the bobbin thread fine when I do it manually. It doesn't make sense. So
gave up on it. I'll just do it at Mom's house.
Watched Black Adam. What's with the recent trends of giving villains their
own movies where they act like heroes? Doesn't make sense.
Finished season 2 of amphibia. Better than season 1.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Mon:
Lots of stuff right in the morning. Tried to get two machines ready, both
had non-standard admin passwords. Hey lab mates, when you're done with a
machine set the password back if you changed it! It's common sense. Set up
a gabi meeting for 11:00. The toner test showed nothing. Emailed the guy.
Oh, he's out until the 28th and didn't tell me this up front? Uh huh. Now
what do I do with it? Downloaded a card reader tool. And that was all
before 9:00.
The rest of the day was spent finishing the machine setup once I got the
passwords, doing the print test, and other minor stuff. No release of D7.6
yet so I could wait on that.
I actually started putting my old books into scribus to do a second
edition. I want to do new covers and I wasn't happy with the margins and
such of the first time I had them printed. It's not like they sold but I
think it might be nice to update them after 8 years.
Got home, checked sites. Naturally I totally forgot to call the person at
4:30. Sigh. But of course she didn't call me either. I did remember at
5:00, so not that late. She didn't answer. Great. She must have forgotten
too?
Didn't reach the other call I had either. Dead HD by the sound of it. She
ran the hardware test on her own, good job! The short test failed. Whoops.
Tues:
Full on D7.6 day. We had the Joe meeting in the morning, then got the
number for 7.6. So I powered through that. Got it almost all done, there's
only one test I can do left, the iOS stuff, and one thing Christina does.
Then we can finally, after like a year, put this stupid release behind us.
Honestly, testing the same thing over and over on slightly different
models is a very bizarre way to do things.
Between times I finished putting the first Demongate High book into the
new format and proofed it a little. Ate the last salad I had.
Came back here, only one call, the same lady from yesterday. So that's
good?
Checked sites.
Reached the lady with the dead HD. She's a half hour away. Wonderful. So
I'm going there tomorrow, may as well get it over with.
Didn't reach the other guy. Well, I tried dude now you can wait until, I
don't know, next week?
Wed:
As expected, I finished off the last iOS test for D7.6. Thank frog.
Also took delivery of some card readers from Joe and secured them.
Then more proof reading, no big mistakes but I think I shouldn't have
capitalized so much stuff. I'm dumb. The me from 2014 was dumb.
Watered the plants, said goodbye to the rotating developer who is going
back to India.
Went out to second job. The one HD would show the D: partition but not the
C:. I did a chkdsk with it plugged into my laptop and the estimated time
ranged from 9 to 14 hours. So it wasn't doing well. Time to replace it.
The other machine was just BSOD on boot, so I copied her stuff off and
wiped it, reloaded windows, and put it back. Simplest solution.
Got back at 7:30 (ugh)
Checked sites and videos.
Thurs:
Happy Native People's Day everyone. Oh, you say it's not called that? Odd,
what else would it be called?
Finished up Amphibia in the morning. A happy but very sad ending all
around. I wasn't sure about it in season 1 but they really put something
special together. Now if I might get a bit spoilery for a second, I don't
like how the timeskip resolved everything. You mean to tell me the girl
that would have been so desperate to return to the world and people she
loved wouldn't have gone into science to work out how to make her own
portal? Or worked with the person that knew how to make portals to open a
new one? Clearly the science is there, they did it. They built a portal in
a cave with some scraps. The only limiting factor seemed to be power, and
our government would have been very interested in opening holes
to other realities. For all the reasons you can think of and more. If we
needed to build a nuclear plant or two to run the gateway then that's
what they would have done. But no, she just gets big into...
studying frogs? The girl that saved two worlds and was offered basically
Silverstreak's job from all my Susan and Lysanias stories? That's it?
Okay, I guess... Did those portals no longer work because the whatever
Anne spoke to was allowing them to work, and then they weren't anymore? It
was sort of a big test, and everyone did sort of fail it but her. I don't
know, there's a lot of questions I have about the 10 years between when
everything happened and how they wrap things up.
Anyway, back to our reality. We had yummy food and watched the Bills just
barely squeak by a victory. Oh and I finished up my sewing. Took 2
minutes. Like it should have looking at you sewing machine.
Came back here.
Tomorrow I'll start putting Sean's gift together. Go shopping. Put the
tree up. That's about all I have planned. I have no idea if we're doing
game, probably though.
Then Saturday something, maybe more Star Trek without our first officer?
Don't know. Stan isn't out of the hospital so no Emberhaven. Otherwise
more working on the gift it'll take some time for the glue to dry so it
won't be done in a day I don't think.
No real big plans otherwise. Unless I'm forgetting something.
Well, next week we start December, where the nights getting longer, the
evil is stronger, and there's much to fear. See you all then!
