2022-11-17:
Fri:
Painted okay, the pieces needed two coats but I think that's because the
first coat was kind of watery. I should have shaken the bottle more before I
tried mixing the two colors. Whoops. It all turned out fine.
Sewing machine messed up? I put the black thread in there and figured I
could just zip-zip and be done with the whole thing. Not so fast the
universe said. The top thread isn't pulling right, so that was a bust. Sigh.
Cleaned the gutters before it rained.
Finished another of the games I wanted to play. Could replay it? I still
have more games to go though. 3 that are PC only. Decided on no, I got a
fairly good ending in my mind so any parallel realities will have to fend
for themselves.
Rained hard, glad I got the leaves done before.
Sites, videos.
Wrapped Mizzy's gift, less risk to it that way.
Little cleaning.
Out to shop.
Saw parents.
Back here.
Halo! We finally managed to play it. Didn't see too many bugs, so we got
through the first part.
Sat:
Was woken up at 8:00 by what sounded like a lawn mower. "Who is mowing their
grass after that rain at this time of day on a Sunday morning?"
Whoops, it's Saturday! HAHA. And it was the leaf monster truck. No more
leaves. Surprised it can pick up wet leaves like that but then it's probably
a huge motor in that thing.
Ordered Oliver's meds.
Did a bunch of Christmas stuff. Thankfully people want all practical stuff
so I was able to make one order and get a bunch of it from one place. (and
it isn't amazon so there) Score!
Neil's gift came. Looked it over, it seems good. Apart from the mistake I
caught earlier. I'll study it in depth to make sure that's the only thing I
want to change and order another. Sigh.
Lunch time.
Played a new game, turned out to be an RPG. Pretty fun. Huh, can't RPG maker
export to Mac? I thought it could. Odd.
Then left for game. I guess Kim won't be returning after this session. And
Stan's surgery didn't go well. He's recovering but it was not what he was
hoping for.
We only got part way through the adventure. Not sure how it will proceed,
and I didn't write down the next date so I'm going to have to ask again.
We're still getting together but we aren't sure what we're going to do.
Then watched Furious 6.
Sun:
More playing the new RPG. Some funny moments, it's not a bad effort.
Lunch.
Sites and videos.
Had our first snow, and there's Christmas music on the radio.
It didn't stick around, of course, but it was falling. Great, the great
whitening has begun.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Halo again. We did see a few glitches this time, one I experienced myself of
falling off the world but it was fine, just fine.
Mon:
Snow stuck around today, not much but enough to make me want to hurl. It was
falling in the morning and more is on the way thursday. It shouldn't stick
around it's just a preview. Yayyyyy.
Started with the onedrive stuff at work, got it updated. After a slight
issue which turned out to be me not understanding exactly what he wanted me
to do when installing, I got it working and opened it up. I can't scan. Huh?
I sent him the log and a screenshot but he had no ideas right then. Great,
not doing that today.
So I loaded the fonts into the C405 Christina set up with the new versalink
software. It's a quick test, just send the print job and see if the barcodes
print. Huh, they don't print. Great. Notified people and another team asked
to get the software. This proved challenging as apparently it's impossible
to simply send a file to someone else in the same company without....
I don't even know. I finally put it on the rightfax server FTP part and just
gave them the password. Get it yourself. Honestly.
I then loaded D7.7 on two machines, figuring I would do the same test. I
didn't need to, D7.7 is a trunk release so I'm only obligated to do it in
one place. I loaded the fonts into the device and printed the page. Done! It
scanned and looked as I expected. I went to load the second device with the
fonts. Uh, hello? The tool wouldn't see the printer! What? So I just closed
the test, passed.
I then looked for the next feature, keeping in mind I've been told
"everything is ready to test." This was a lie. It wasn't in there. Sigh.
I then did the fax test. I only did it on the new, tiny device. I wasn't
going to do it on the big device, again. I've done it so many times on so
many devices. I want this fax test to be over. Please! Passed. Done.
So that was today. Got some things in the trash, but not lunch food. Some
medicine? A ton of honey buns. 4 cups of chili I had two of, I'll get to
that. A couple of salad. None of it was that cold, I think it was there over
the weekend. So I want to eat it up. So that's why the two bowls. Honestly
they are tiny bowls anyway, and I didn't have any honey bun. So there. I
still have three of the darn things! And I had a salad, it hasn't corrupted
yet. I'll watch them, they may yet be compost material. Also got a few more
chips, including one ripped package. I threw that one in the toaster oven
and cooked it. They came out fine.
Went to the bank and came home.
Checked sites, videos.
Two calls, an email issue and the far away guy. Email lady it wasn't
actually an email issue. It was a "you've got some wrong address in here"
issue, and good old windows live mail (a 10 year old program I can't get
away from now) just stops if it detects a problem and so the other email in
the outbox didn't go out.
Far away guy wants to split his outlook somehow, he's got personal stuff and
business stuff all in folders. Okay, sit there for hours and hours
forwarding each email to the new account? Or put them in folders on another
machine I guess? He's got a zillion folders, either way it's going to be
hours and hours of work. I told him I could get him started on whatever he
wanted but I'm not sitting there for hours holding his hand. If you're
hiring a "personal assistant" then make sure you can trust them not to snoop
I guess? Why are you hiring someone you don't trust in the first place? I
mean an assistant is just that, they're going to know everything eventually.
Tues:
Got a fix for the onedrive, and had meetings. Joe's meeting as usual, and a
meeting about what tests to do for a couple of small projects coming in
soon.
I got the test cases (or case as the case may be) done for both, but I might
have to change the one. I don't know, he sort of contradicted himself in his
email back to me and then I forgot to reply to it. Oh well, there's always
tomorrow.
Checked the fixes for the one drive. Apparently a config file needed more
configing. I had modified it earlier and didn't overwrite it, because that
would be the bad. So it wasn't in there. I added it manually and it was.
They didn't fix everything they said. And it's still buggy as all heck.
Yuck.
Wrote up the bugs I noticed there.
Looked at the C405 with Christina, it's doing some odd stuff.
Came back here, sites and dinner.
Made two calls. I'm calling her on Thursday and the other guy I didn't
reach. He did call me back while we were playing Halo of course.
Little of the RPG. I'm near the end, just finishing off the secrets and
such.
Then Halo.
Wed:
Pretty busy, I finished up a little more testing of the onedrive. Some new
problems actually, how are they making it worse? It's supposed to be getting
better. I did something before that though, what was it? Oh right I worked
on the test case, as it went from two to one.
After that I got started on the delete print jobs on logout. Again. We've
already tested it on 1.5 an 1.6 isn't that far off from it. Why do we need
to do it again? I didn't do a complete-complete test, but I did hit the
major points. Had some trouble with the smartcard, stupid thing.
Then a few "upgrade via print file" cases, but I'll have of that to do
tomorrow.
Then after work job. He was getting some really weird messages about
permissions of all things. Just on a hunch I decided to run chkdsk which
took more than half an hour. And it went into recovery mode. Uh, no MS. It's
rebooting to run the chkdsk, it's fine. Stupid thing, it was at 100% for
more than five minutes. But it did finally finish, so I could finally run
mbam and ccleaner. Poking around I noticed his antivirus was off. I was
trying to figure that out when he had to go. Whatever. I don't think it's
been on since 2016 as that's the last time the scan was run. It's a windows
8 machine, don't see many of them. Thank goodness. So slow.
Back here in the dark and the cold. 4-5 feet of snow in buffalo over the
weekend? No thank you. Anyway, that was 6:30 so I wrote this up before 7:00.
Two calls again. Yay. Go away. Turned into four. Neat. So I have two for
Saturday, one guy with a web form he's had problems with before, call your
web guy dude. And 45 minutes on the phone with a lady that had plugged her
USB hub into... itself. How... what? How did it ever work? Once we figured
that out I reloaded the printer as it wasn't scanning. 45 minutes. Kill me.
Just about time for bed. Great.
Thurs:
Got a fairly good haul today. Another stack of salad for some reason, 3 more
chili cups, and some sandwiches. Not bad!
Pretty busy, finished up the upgrade tests, though Christina said she would
do two of them. One of them I was trying but it was giving me an error
message. So that test is done.
We had a drill, the in place drill not the fire drill.
Of course we had the usual meetings. And watering the plants so that's a
typical thurs. We'll get a new one drive in December, and I told him what I
had found so far. Then the status meeting. Still lots of things coming in
before the end of the year.
Came back here, the lady I was supposed to call at 4:30 called and said she
wanted Monday. Sure, whatever.
So I checked sites, videos.
No calls yet, but it's only 7:30.
Let's look ahead. I don't think we'll have anything new tomorrow. The last
(finally) D7.6 build is coming early Monday instead of us waiting for the
"release notes" to be done. It will be very nice to see that in the rear
view mirror. Just get it out of here. So I'm not sure what I'll do tomorrow.
Basically everything comes in after the holiday, so tomorrow will be the
quiet day. Then let's get this crap checked again for one
final time and never do it again.
Otherwise doing the shopping, no bank, and seeing my parents. So far game is
on for Friday, I'm about to roast me a ghost-ly.
Then Saturday I have two jobs, and I'll have my parents over. Hopefully my
mother can show me what I did wrong threading the sewing machine (thus
implying it was my fault and not the machine still) so I can work on
Sean's gift on Sunday. Get. It. Done.
Otherwise staying warm and laughing at Buffalo I guess? We won't see each
other again until after Turkey Day so have a good one everyone and I'll see
you after the comma.
