2022-11-03:
Fri:
Fairly busy day.
Running around trying to get Gabi to work. I did finally manage it, the
smartbox didn't want to boot up on another ethernet port but booting it back
on my desk, getting it up and running, and then moving it did the trick. My
goodness this stupid thing is fragile. So I can do the demo and the XWS team
can try whatever it is they're doing.
Did a bit of D22-10 testing. I'm waiting for monday to do the bulk of it.
I'm going to do two machines at once, it's much more efficient. I did do the
fax testing, again, on the one device. Hard to do that on two at once
because of the tools I need. Hard to go back and forth. So that's done at
least.
Oh and now they want us to do some kind of lockdown test? Go away!
Did the shopping, they actually had cat food again.
Then saw my parents.
Came back here.
Checked sites.
Then did game. We saved the princess but the peace talks are over. They go
their separate ways. The question of the weakening magical barrier is still
lingering, that wasn't part of this plot at all? Interesting.
Sat:
Started the last part (hopefully) of Mizzy's gift printing.
Cleaned up the house as my parents are coming over.
Checked sites.
Ate lunch.
Went to early vote. Walked right in, apparently the library is just behind
where it used to be. Weird. Never knew that.
No lines or anything, not like in some places.
Walked around the place, seems nice.
Came back here. Still printing away. I hated to leave it but...
Worked on the gift. Coming together, but of course it's not perfect. Don't
look too close Mizzy!
Parents came over for movie.
Sun:
Started a Sean print, Mizzy's gift is all printed.
Finished putting the last two panels on Mizzy's gift. Letting it dry now.
Looks pretty good, will need some touch up of course. I'm debating filling
in the cracks with something and painting them. It's all black but of course
some black is more black than other black.
Checked sites.
I decided to fill in the cracks, got that done and painted. The gift
actually looks pretty good. I would call it a success!
The Sean print finished, it looks good too. And it fits together with the
first one, an impressive feat. However I probably will print the front
again. The new filament seems to be much better than the stuff I ordered
before, and with the gear not working right so the end got messed up I think
it would just be better to do it. It's just another 8 hours of printing
time, but that's fine. With 2 of the 3 gifts out of the way time to focus on
Sean's and getting the second part of it started.
Watched some stuff.
Made some calls, I'll pick up the laptop tomorrow, and I have a job tuesday
something vague as usual.
Didn't reach one person, and one person wanted to make sure they could give
my number to another person.
Mon:
did the upgrade test for Sreyas. He saw the issue and said he would look
into it. Hopefully he did, he didn't come and see me the rest of the day.
Then the fax test as Chistina took my other machine so I'm back down to only
having one. At least I did a little of it. I realized I did a similar model
not long ago, so I just did a sanity test on it. Fine. Done.
The guy came with supplies for my tiny machine, so after downgrading
software on it to get rid of the error using the original toner, thus
proving it was that, I upgraded it again. He put the serial number back and
now it's finally fault free. Let's hope it stays that way. Oh, and one of
the other new devices, the one that we managed to get on D7.7, can't be
upgraded past a certain point, but it's basically useless now? Shrug.
A developer came at 3:00 to look at the device with the rolling reboots, but
couldn't connect to it so I loaned him my laptop. So I was interrupted from
doing the iOS tests (for like the 5th time) so I only got part way through
them.
What else did I do today? Learned about the true meaning of friendship?
Nope! Eh, I guess nothing.
Left for York, for the real, last, honest to goodness time. The building was
empty, and he's going to Florida. I punched him out, stole his wallet, and
wished him a merry christmas. Or wait no, what holiday is today? Easter?
Something like that.
Came back here.
Checked sites, videos, got his stuff off the drive so I can use the laptop
as the loaner again.
No kids as of yet. (It's 7:30)
Made two calls. A guy 45 minutes away that wants help with organizing
outlook? I guess? When I learned he was 45 minutes away I was like, dude,
that's too far. That's an hour and a half of driving for what? $40? No way.
So he agreed we could try it remotely. How do people that far away even get
my number?
And the guy I spoke of yesterday called, two new people in a row? Stop it.
Please, just stop it.
Anyway looks like a HD problem. It's saying no boot disk soooooooooo. Yeah,
Not looking good there. That's Wednesday.
Tues:
More meetings today. The Joe meeting, still months away from anything that
might involve me. But listen in I did.
And we had a demo of a new feature in D7.6 R23-01. Yes, a year in and we
haven't shipped a 7.6 that I know of, but we're already working on code for
the next release? Uh, how about we finish this one up and release it?
Finally? Is that an option?
Got through most of the rest of the D7.6 tests. The bypass tray one got
finished up, then I did the release secure print jobs. Lots of nice coloring
sheets for the shops. Then the clone test. There's really only a few cloning
tests left and I sort of already know it's bugged from the upgrade tests I
did which were basically the same thing. So they should be done by tomorrow,
if I don't have more endless meetings. I do have to give a demo of stupid
Gabi. Stupid, stupid gabi.
Went to after work job. Of course we knew no passwords, not for our frontier
email or our google account. But I did get the printer back on the wi-fi,
reset her one password, started the reset of the other, answered a few
questions. Why does it take 48 hours for google to "manually review" the
account? I requested the code, I got the code, I put in the code. Done.
Weird.
Came back here, checked sites. Just one call, the guy for tomorrow telling
me how to do my job. Dude, I've been doing my job for about 20 years now. I
got hired at Xerox in 2001 and was there only a few years. So it's been
about 20. I know how to do my job. You don't have to tell me what to bring.
Your HD is probably dead. It happens. There's only replacement. But we'll
see I guess. Looking forward to it! (lie)
Wed:
Demo day! But first I finished up cloning. John, the guy who took the
machine I was using for about 2 months before apparently didn't check that
he lost the machine and I took it, because when I looked today both our
names were on for yesterday. I hadn't taken it for today (because common
courtesy dictates you don't take a machine out that long, especially if
you're not sitting there using it every day) so I just left it. Whatever. We
know it won't work, why belabor the point? He isn't using it though, for all
of yesterday and Monday I think the admin password was changed and I was
doing stuff to it so it isn't like he tried to get on it and couldn't. Jerk.
Our rebooting machine is up and running. There was a lot of back and forth,
we think it's a bad TPM board or module. Why do we need encrypted partitions
and special hardware on tiny desk sized home printers? These machines are
slow enough, we don't need them slowed down more. It's crazy. They want to
do more tests with a new build later to improve the error handling around
this situation. Which I at least have no problem with.
Then the demo. It went fine, questions got answered and everyone saw the
wonder of Gabi.
Then out to Mr trying to tell me how to do my job. His drive was dead. It
was making a funny noise and wasn't even recognized as being there in the
BIOS. Whoops. Replaced with an SSD and I got what files he had backed up put
back. I'm going back to help him with the laptop he bought on Saturday. He
didn't buy the laptop Saturday, I'm going back there Saturday. I just wanted
to be clear on that one.
And back here. Checked sites, the usual.
One call, I helped over the phone so I have tomorrow "free" in that I can
come home but I have to take Oliver to the vet at night.
Thurs:
Another meeting day, the usual meetings in the afternoon, and then the
plants. Not much in the morning, we didn't get any versalink stuff like we
were supposed to so I'm basically caught up with everything. Apart from the
last upgrade tests (that I know will fail) that I'll do Monday when I get
the machine back.
Oh, I did make a smartcard and log in with it, for an upcoming test. So that
was a thing.
Came back here, had dinner.
Then went to bring Oliver to the vet.
No problems there.
Two calls to make when I got back.
One person was fine by then. The other didn't answer. Fine by me.
Looking ahead I'll find something to do tomorrow I'm sure. Then shopping,
the bank, and seeing my parents. We'll do game, but not next week.
Then over the weekend I want to print hopefully the last piece of Sean's
gift, do the leaves, do the paperwork for two months, and I can have my
parents over. No saturday game until the 12th, I believe. Oh, and put up the
lights. Hey, don't judge me, the people across the street did. AND TURNED
THEM ON. I wouldn't do that until next month. It's called restraint. But I
don't begrudge them the extra time to feel the spirit. We could use it.
Turning the clocks back, election day, Veterans Day, all things to look
forward to next week. I get that day off. But you can hear more about that
next week.
should you dare to return.
Byeeeeeeeee!
