2022-09-22:
Fri:
Not much at work, nothing is really coming in officially until the end of
the month at the earliest.
Did the latest chapter and a bit, we sort of started the next leg of our
journey, at least we got pointed in the direction by the town guard, so I
was able to write that part up but we don't know if we're talking to the guy
in town, the spirit, both, neither. You know.
Got a haul, thanks Christina for alerting me! She saw the guy at that
station and alerted me so they were the freshest I've ever gotten. Mostly
sandwiches but a few yogurt 3 salad, and 1 cheese. I checked again on the
way out and got a half dozen bottles of Dew and two more chips.
Did the shopping, missed cider until the way out, darn it! And they didn't
have lemon juice, but I wasn't worried I had enough of that for the week so
next week I hope they still have cider.
Saw my parents.
Checked sites. Made two calls. A setup for the lady that made me sit in the
freezing cold to set up her last machine. Great. Not a big fan. And wear a
mask? What is this, 2020? My mask doesn't even fit anymore. Get over it.
Then game. The final game for the Miracle Girls. We got the final bracer
away from the final guy and beat up the boss who was handing them out to
random people. We're going to try the shonen game next time.
Sat:
Straight to work the extra goop on the driveway to use it up. The sun came
out and dried it out beautifully by the afternoon. Hopefully the extra will
keep it nice, with all the damage the front takes from the plow and ice and
whatnot it needs it.
Painted the solid door patch gray. Whoops should have done the whole piece
of wood, which means cleaning it off first. Let the paint dry, then cleaned
it, then painted the rest. Cleaned the other one so I can paint it too. May
as well. Had to be a little creative so the cats didn't get out, but I
managed it. Means the front door one isn't getting completely painted but
that's fine, the very back isn't the danger point anyway.
Cleaning up.
NMS of course. Worked on the mission for my little drone, who gave himself a
name and is helping me build my mech suit.
Took the solar collector down, got the piece of rotted wood off the bottom
and cleaned up the mess. I wonder if I should build some kind of legs into
it, get it off the deck so it doesn't soak up as much water? The backing is
rotted too, maybe 1/4 of the way up? We'll have to saw that off and get
another board, but my father says just fix the one piece for now.
Parents over for the monster U movie. It was acceptable.
Game? Nope, Sean was watching a long movie and then had to do the update for
the DLC.
So I watched another movie instead. That'll show him!
Sun:
Something to think about:
The
nonpartisan firm AdImpact released
a report Wednesday
projecting that nearly $9.7 billion total will be spent on political ads
during the 2022 election cycle.
I think I've mentioned this before the last time I saw the numbers. $10
billion dollars and for what? TV adds? Lawn signs that get destroyed and put
in landfills after a month? We cry about "oh it's so tough to fix the
environment." "Oh, we can't solve the homeless crisis." "Oh child poverty is
on the rise." So fix it. You can't tell me after a very few people
spend TEN BILLION DOLLARS to become elected officials (and half of them will
fail to do so, meaning $5,000,000,000 went up in smoke for no reason) that
we can't solve every problem. You can't say that. We can. $10,000,000,000
solves a lot of problems. We simply choose not to. Instead we, what? Yes, I
suppose people are employed filming the ads, and printing up the signs, but
not $10,000,000,000 worth. What exactly are we throwing money at here? Not
solving our problems! People that spend 10 billion dollars whine about taxes
and how their budgets are too small. I don't want to hear it. Not with
numbers like that getting thrown around.
Balanced the check book again.
Did the job, it went fine. Didn't have to sit outside, and it only took two
hours to do the transfer. I was more selective this time, not getting all of
appdata, and used cho easy copy on each folder in turn rather than just
trying to drag the whole thing over. She gave me the old laptop (it's not
that old) with the busted plastic. Hummm, it's the top part, of course, the
harder to replace part. I'll have to look into how to replace it. I'll have
to completely disassemble the whole thing but the laptop does work
otherwise. I hate to chuck it. Or do I just keep the display off and plug a
monitor into it? That could work but who would buy or want to use a hybrid
desktop/laptop like that? It does have a full keyboard...
Ate lunch.
Few things around the house, need tonight free for game.
Finished the mission in NMS, but the AI isn't exactly helpful so I'm kind of
annoyed I put so much work into it. I put all the sentinel upgrades on my
exo suit so it could act on its own. Which I thought meant mining everything
in sight or at least helping me in combat if I jumped out of it to double my
firepower. I mean come on the tiny drone helps me in combat! But no; The
thing just stands around. Fight for me, stupid thing! It will follow me,
which is nice, so I can throw resources into it like a suitcase on wheels
that is also a robot, but it's so slow it can't keep up with me. Yes, a huge
robot and I can run faster than it. Stupid. And everything it touches just
disintegrates, so you don't get the resources even if you wanted them. It
just smashes through everything. Great. I like the car better. It's faster,
the mining beam is eaiser to use because you can see where you're shooting
(it's the stupid tall spaceship problem all over again, it's too tall!). One
amusing thing was getting the "brain" of the unit. The walker I had to
destroy was on a tiny island in the ocean. Barely enough space for it and
parking my ship and the old ruin of a monolith that I found there. So I dug
a trench around the thing obliterating most of the island, and when I
attacked it the thing lumbered forward, fell in the hole, got stuck on the
ruin, and sat there while I shot it unable to do anything. Uh, Hello Games?
You've still got some bugs to fix if you wanted to take a break from putting
out expansions... Don't get me wrong it was hilarious but maybe not what you
intended? And against a single target, the stun beam is OP. Just saying.
Ate dinner.
Made two calls, going down the street tomorrow, just to check a machine
over. Didn't reach the second guy. It's the guy I changed the router for,
now he's realized he can't use his printer. Sigh.
Then back to Alien Fire Team Charlie with the others. We finished 2/3 of it,
died to the last part, then restarted but it crashed 10 minutes in. GURRRR.
Mon:
Had some more rain, so that's good.
Work wise, set up the printer that's been in the box for three weeks now,
finally.
The guy did get the new device up and running, so I was able to do the first
D7.7 test on that one. Got through it.
Had a 3:00 meeting that ran until almost 4:30, thank you for that. Going
over the bug for the one drive app, we got through, oh, about half the list.
Honestly, maybe companies can do their own testing, then send it
to us for a final blessing? Not send us crap and expect us to debug it? Is
that a thing? We're not other companies QA departments. We make sure it
integrates with our stuff, and that's it.
Got to my second work. Ran a scan, answered some questions, so problems
there.
Ate dinner, checked sites.
Made two calls. Made three calls. A lady who "solved" her problem leaving me
nothing to diagnose, the printer guy who actually had a printer that was
sane and connected to the router right away, and an hour and a half with
another guy with a router that was acting up. I guess he hit the reset
button but didn't hold it, so it wasn't actually resetting which did do the
job. Sigh.
A little No Man's Sky, had to check out that crashed freighter I found.
Obviously. Hey, there were two right there next to each other. What is this,
the Triangle?
Tues:
Continued the D7.7 testing. Got both other trials completed. Nothing really
stood out, both seemed to work just as they had in other products. Which is
good, and expected. I found the hidden bypass tray on the color device. Why
did we go to such lengths to hide it? Doesn't seem right. Make things in
your product obvious, that should be, well, obvious.
No after work job so I came home. Checked sites, ate dinner.
Little bit of Sky, just checking in with my settlers and some inventory
management.
No calls, so got ready for tomorrow.
Then won the Aliens expansion. With the help of some robots, that is. Then
we did a bit of horde mode with my new sniper shotgun. It would seem to be
the perfect weapon for me, but I think the damage could be higher. Basically
it's a shotgun if you simply pull the trigger, but it focuses if you hold it
down. Not quite enough I think. Still fun to play around with. It's a neat
idea.
Wed:
Had two meetings today, one at noon, which was fine, just fine. One meeting
about what to tell our "partner" how we would like the bug fixed. I'm not
sure we actually decided on anything but more questions to ask them. The
other was about the unfortunate new behavior we didn't foresee in messing
with the bypass tray message. And again, not sure if anything was decided.
Otherwise not much else. Still nothing new coming in, though our servers did
go down because of something they were doing over in building 300. It's the
downside to having everything as a virtual machine and in one place. Single
point of failure. If they go down, everything goes down. Not a
great strategy but it saves us money sooooooo.
Came back here, had dinner, checked sites.
Need to go to bed early, it's kitty sitting time around here. So got that
ready to go.
Then some NMS, built a base on a world with a green sun.
Thurs:
Got up and went over to feed everybody. That went fine. Went to work.
Did not get the promised software, they want another week. Fine with me,
less releases equals happier me.
But that meant there wasn't much to do.
We did of course have the meetings.
Got a strange haul. A dozen or more bags of chips. 3 honey buns, a single
package of twinkies, and a box of chocolate wafer bars. Okay I guess I'll
take it? The freezer is pretty well stocked so there should be a nice purge
sometime soon I hope. I mean I don't hope, but you know what I mean.
Came back here, checked sites. Videos. Ate dinner.
Getting ready for another early night. Cold and rainy out by the way.
I guess it was down where my parents are too.
Looking ahead not expecting much tomorrow. Christina wants to put both Gabi
and some other login solution on a machine at once for some random person?
Uh, okay, that's not going to work for one thing Gabi is smartcard and this
is prox card. It's so weird.
No parents, duh, but doing the shopping, maybe bank? When I get home playing
the second adventure in Monster Hunter Acadamia with the others. Saturday
and Sunday feeding everybody of course. Maybe work on the heater, cut the
wood and do some painting for it.
Otherwise no big plans I guess. No calls as of yet, someone's been taking
care of me. Need to do more printing of course, since I didn't last week.
Sigh.
That seems to be it. It's the end of Sept by the time we speak again. And
then downhill, only three months until 23. Wow. See you all then.
