2022-09-08:
Fri:
As expected, not much in the way of work. Everyone seemed to be gone by 2:00
the lab was empty. Neat.
Started Time Hallow, surprisingly good, I've had it since the beginning but
never even opened it. My mistake.
Did the shopping, didn't have to go to Wegmans because I found cocoa powder
where I had not before. Nice!
Saw my parents. Rain predicted for Sunday and Monday so I guess we're doing
this big thing tomorrow. Should be fine.
Came back and got to work. Washed the deck, blew the driveway off a little.
I'll have to do more right before we put the goop on so I didn't stress on
that one.
Vacuumed the rug three times.
Made the eggs.
Made the bacon.
Made the ice cream.
Brought up the stuff we'll need, not that I had to, but at least it's there
and ready.
Checked sites and videos.
Made one call, I knew I could do it remotely, just a password issue. Please,
people, write down your passwords someplace! I beg you!
That all took until 9:00. But I'm ready for tomorrow.
More No Man's Sky, of course.
Sat:
We did a lot of the things.
We did the trimming.
We got all the sticks in the truck.
We did the driveway.
My mother did the carpet.
We looked at the pipe.
We had the lunch.
Weather was good, it wasn't super hot, but hot enough the driveway dried by
the time we got finished with the second can of stuff. Sheesh. It used 4.2
cans. I'll take the extra .8 can and go over the front of the driveway again
next week. It's pretty abused, with the salt and the ice from the plows and
such.
Did some No Man's Sky. Found the bug ship I was jealous of. Cheep too. But
do I get rid of a ship? The one in the same class has a special mod that
gives it 100+ light year range on the hyperdrive. Could need it?
Had dinner, checked sites.
Cleaned up everything. Did laundry so hopefully my pants are okay from the
driveway stuff.
Played warframe and then No Man's Sky with the others. They finally made it
to the space station I had found but quite late, we didn't have much chance
to look around.
Sun:
Mostly no man's sky. Junked the ship, I already have one that's better so I
took the money.
Walked around the station. Can't get the plot to advance, no one will talk
about Artemis, the guy I'm supposed to be finding. Very odd. Bugged? Lots of
upgrades to buy though!
Went around finding buried data to unlock upgrades at the new space station
we finally made it to. Spent some money and turned my pistol into a sniper
rifle. No sight though, it's still the same gun.
Got more resources, had some encounters.
Bought more storage containers. Maybe should have got them one at a time? Oh
well, I've got them now. Put one in the base for everything I have only a
few of. I got a lot of exotic material from some floating crystals that
would sell for a ton of money, but I'm keeping it for now. Don't need money.
That's just to buy ships and sometimes raw material. Upgrades you get with a
different kind of money, because that's how the future works.
Became mayor of a small town on the Uranium laced planet. Starting making
them a bar.
Made a new base in a rainbow land next to a trading post. Underground, of
course. In the base of a large tree. So cool.
Made a landing pad, so my ship shouldn't be stuck in my front door anymore
when I load in. Reshaped the mountain, not that it wouldn't just float in
the air but it looks better actually "supported" by rock.
Never actually rained, but threatened all day. Bit misty, and the driveway
in the very back corner still isn't dry completely, not warm enough now I
expect. Hopefully should be fine.
Did my sunday stuff, though I don't have work tomorrow.
Mon:
Sorry, not much to write about today. Mostly played no man's sky. It did
rain though. Not as much as maybe it was supposed to, it wasn't a driving
rain just... rain.
Just general stuff in the game. Upgrading my bases to have medium refiners
(as they don't need fuel) instead of small ones. More looking for resources,
found a crashed freighter but didn't get much out of it. My settlement is
still in debt but at least it's shrinking (the debt not the settlement) now
rather than growing. Got a copy of the same multi-tool I already have, a
broken one. Gee, thanks. Already got that one from beating sentinels.
I have realized a few things; The mining beam works better in the yellow, so
if you're facing a bunch of rocks or something mine until it's almost ready
to overhead but don't let it do so, and don't let it cool down between
rocks. It'll be faster. There's save beacons and save points for a reason. A
beacon you can go back to easily. I dropped a beacon on all the plants in
the starting system (and found a few neat things looking for a good place to
drop them) so I don't have to run around the system looking for planets I
don't have bases on. I can just look for the beacons. Also found out the
radar in the ship is actually good for something, so don't fly in 3rd person
view all the time. My underground base under the tree means going there gets
the ship tangled up in the tree and it can't take off, forcing a reload. (So
I summon the ship first, moving it a few feet, and take off from there).
Watched the rest of the lord of the rings movies.
Checked sites and videos, of course.
Tues:
Nothing new came in today, so it's the same story for the moment.
No haul, the refrigerated section is actually pretty bare for some reason.
Doesn't look like it was touched at all today. Odd.
Oh, we did have a fire drill, stupid loud sirens we get it, we hear you, do
they have to be that loud? Sheesh.
More Time Hallow, up to the last chapter.
Went out to get the printer back on the wi-fi. It found it, then said it
couldn't connect. I managed to do it manually, so that was fine. Back home.
Ate dinner, checked sites. Copied more games to the SD card for my DS.
Did some warframe and then No Man's Sky with the others. No advancement of
the plot but we gave Sean a tour of rainbow land (or Swampfoot if you're
Mizzy) and generally ran around.
Wed:
Lifting my garage door last night made it break. Took a look today, seems
the metal plate attached to the bottom of the door that holds the line has
simply rusted away to almost nothing. Neat. I think it can be
simply removed and replaced, but what do I know?
Nothing new at work. We were supposed to get two more of the new devices,
but shock and awe they were having trouble loading software. What a
surprise.
Oh, and there was an Apple event but it was just the watch and the iPhone,
so I don't care. Hey apple how about instead of a bigger watch, you give us
a smaller one? I would love the majority of features like the more advanced
sleep tracking, oxygen levels and such, but don't want that giant watch
face, the ability to look like a dork by talking into it like I was Dick
Tracy, or "apps." Just the underlying tech that's actually useful. Got
anything for me? No? Okay then.
Got a minor haul, it again must have been done after I left so I left some
things there. Not much. Got a few sandwiches, 3 yogurt, a chocolate bar, and
an apple pie that was a bit squished. Why are you going there so late all of
a sudden? Stop it! Oh and a salad I ate before coming home. I found a big
salad in the other bin, and that was it. It should keep until Friday, it
looked okay.
No job, so came back here. Two calls. One person setting up greenlight with
some weird DSL modem they thought was a router. Uh, no, it is not. I
directed them to plug the connection in directly for now and get a router
tomorrow.
The other guy just needed his equipment rebooted. Done. Nothing for
tomorrow.
Did some No Man's Sky. Set out to create a garden base on the airless world,
and I succeeded almost completely. How often can you say that? I'm missing
an element to plant one type of flower and can't find it. Left a
few spaces open, and I can always take some plants out or knock down the
back wall and put in more stations. I have the power to spare. And I
harvested my first crop, frost crystals. Neat. Now to replenish all the
resources I used building the place.
Of course the one "hotspot" I found, that can generate unlimited- sorry,
UNLIMITED POWER was inside a mountain. Because of course it was. I managed
to chip away at it so another one of my bases is "underground" so to speak.
What am I a hobbit?
Thurs:
Huh, my Mac downstairs will no longer be supported by dropbox next month?
Yipes, now what am I going to do? I mean I knew that day would come... I
guess I can look more into updating it, in an unsupported manner. Oh well.
Not much at work today, but the endless meetings (a +1 this afternoon!) in
the afternoon. Tomorrow that changes! We didn't get the promised onedrive
today but he said we would, so we should have it by tomorrow.
And I need to come up with some test cases for yet another log in method,
because we don't have enough ways to log into the machine. We don't! There's
only like, 50 ways. I'm kidding. There's... at least 6. But no, we need
another way so I guess we have to test it. That was what the +1 meeting was
about. I was late to water the plants, they all complained.
At least the fridge is restocked.
Came back here, no calls. Looked into fixing my garage door by myself, as
the part is removable. I think I found a replacement on ebay but I'll ask my
folks their opinion tomorrow. I took the part off, easy peasy.
Got ready for tomorrow. Checked sites, the usual.
Did more No Man's Sky. Went on a resources hunt. Got some copper, and found
the element I needed to put some more plants in. Put more plants in. Bought
the rest of the plant "blueprints" so I can plant them when I get the
elements I need. I also got some fancy lights and more types of walls. Found
another magnetic source in rainbow land, kinda late but at least I did
manage to prove there's more than one in the system.
Let's look to the future: Probably plenty of work tomorrow. Shopping.
Seeing my parents. Probably go to the bank. No game again. Saturday and
sunday? Let's see, here's a random list:
Do paperwork from last month.
Order replacement parts.
Make more ice cream with the other half of the cream.
Look into dropbox and the Mac and how to upgrade it
Take care of withdrawal emails that are piling up. (the usual stuff like the
phone bill)
Put the clippings in the bags my father brought over.
Finally do more 3D printing.
Think about other gifts for friends.
Go to Sean's Saturday for the pyre game.
Put the extra goop on the driveway to use it up.
There's probably more I'm forgetting.
So much for a restful weekend.
Did you notice the first week of September is already over? I did. Hope it's
going well for you.
See you back this time next week.
