2022-08-25:
Fri:
Two tests done, in D7.7. The card ID copy and the new cloning test. Didn't
quite finish the cloning test, there are some altboots you have to perform,
which take some time. So I did everything else. That and the "check all
these settings to see if they clone." which is the last one. I made the
clone file so I can pick that right up Monday morning.
Did the shopping.
Came back here. Made my calls, obviously I don't usually make calls on
Friday but I had a few and we weren't starting until 7:30 so I figured I may
as well.
York again? Come on, leave me alone! Didn't reach the guy that wants the
laptop, I'll call him in the morning. York is complaining about either login
to the device or email, two completely separate things. So hard to know what
they want.
Did game, second part of the adventure, which we finished. More to come, he
said there were some interesting parts of the next adventure he was looking
forward to but I'll be the judge of that, sir.
Sat:
Called laptop guy. He's coming here tomorrow afternoon so that saves me some
running around.
Called another guy, no answer.
Did a chaos run, survived but didn't get anything good. Not sure of my
build, if the 1 HP thing is better or this other way is.
Went out to york. She was using the wrong password, and indeed it was not
about login to the device but insead just to her email. Thankfully firefox
remembered the right password, but wasn't offering it? Ah, she had
apparently told it not to at some point. Silly. So I recovered that, wrote
it down. And I changed the power strip out, and recorded a greeting and
showed him how to hit the button (which was flashing) to get messages and
his new, new phone.
Back here I ate lunch.
Watched a little more Lord of the Rings.
Looked for my Warcraft 3 disks. Can't find them. It won't open on the Mac,
at least my M1, but I found out I don't need the disks. Ha. Installed it on
the PC. Playing on the couch really isn't comfortable, need to raise the
mouse or play in the chair on the "small" monitor. While installing it I
realized that if the "remaster" ran on modern macs and this seemed to
download the remastered version but display the old graphics I probably
could have done it on the Mac. Oh well, just as easy to do it on the PC.
Watched The Rescuers with the fam.
Then some No Man's Sky with the others.
Died at the end! Yes, in a game I thought was about exploration, and
resource gathering, and base building, we picked up a glowing orb and were
attacked by endless waves of... robots? From nowhere? I got in my ship, left
the planet, and went back to my base but there they were! They shot me down
and I died. I have no idea how this is going to affect the game going
forward. I couldn't rejoin Sean. Neat. Why did robots chase us down for
picking up a glowing orb? There were waves and waves of them, what were we
supposed to do? Drop the orb again? I don't get it.
Sun:
At least I didn't lose my stuff in Sky.
We did get some rain overnight, and later in the afternoon. Finally. A
little. More came in the night so that's a welcome change.
Checked my sites.
Cleaned a little.
Came across some DVDs while looking for my warcraft CDs, made sure I didn't
need them and chucked them.
Guy came for the laptop.
Did another Risk of Rain 2 run. I got the log entry I wanted but the last
boss killed me. Not even sure how. I claim it as victory as my intention was
to find the hidden log entry, not win the game. Yeah, that's not a
rationalizaton at all. Yeah! I was doing terribly at the beginning, I
couldn't pass the first world. It was my first time playing on the harder
difficulty, I blame that.
Got ready for tomorrow.
No calls, well, one call canceling a call, so I didn't make any calls.
Got up to chaos 11 in Tina's. Not a single legendary dropped the entire run.
Not one. Only at the final chest and the bunny statues. Still no second copy
of laserhands. Sadface.
Then did more No Man's Sky, which seemed fine. We finally got the
anti-matter, but I needed gold to make the solar panel. So I mined some of
that. Inventory is getting very full, and wasn't near my base to make the
panel. Should I splurge for a better mining tool with more slots? Not sure.
It's most of my money...
Mon:
Got a haul, sort of. It must have been done last week? Sigh. It had been in
there long enough that the ice cream sandwiches were completely melted and
warm. Nice. There weren't a lot of sandwiches thankfully, but I did get a
weeks worth of cereal, more honey buns, a bunch of candy bars, twenty small
bags of chips, two handfulls of granola bars that Christina took, two
puddings and three yogurt that are sealed and probably okay? I guess we'll
see by the smell? They actually "expire" in like a week, so why they were
even chucked I don't know. I guess if I die you'll know why. Still hated to
leave the other food but that is a risk sooooooo.
Looked up the yogurt thing. Some sites say 2 hours, others 24, still others
that if it's sealed it's probably fine for longer than that. Great! Just
what I needed, a huge difference of opinion.
My D7.7 machine is stuck booting after I did the erase customer data. Gonna
be a great day.
So I tried putting it on the new device, as Gina says I should test the ID
card copy stuff there. Sure, why not. Oh look, it's now stuck with a message
that it can't boot.
I mean you can't say I didn't try. You can't say it. I did what I could.
The pudding must have been upside down. It was sort of leaking out and
looked really funny. I didn't eat it. The yogurt was fine.
More rain today, at least a little.
Came back home, checked sites and had the cup of mac and cheese from the
trash for dinner. It's not bunny pasta but it was okay.
Worked on my base in No Man's Sky. I have windows and some stairs now!
Visited Sean's base, reaching up to the sky like he was building luxury
apartments. I have stairs down to the water, a small dock, and some plants
by the windows. Looking good, if I do say so myself. I finally have solar
panels, and the gun I was looking at changed to be twice as much money so
much for that. I did what I wanted to do, and almost got stuck again as my
ship wouldn't take off, again. Thanks for that. Luckily the base was in
walking distance still, I had been looking for copper deposits to mine.
Only the one call, a dead laptop that was 6 months old. Call samsung then,
make it their problem.
Tues:
I'm not dead!
Got my machine up and running... eventually. The developer came back and
discovered a new software switch so I could do the test in most of the ways
it was intended. I wrote one bug, pretty sure it's not cloning one setting.
I did it twice, I'm not mad.
Had a meeting about the barcode stuff, I guess I'm doing that tomorrow.
Not much else. Lots of waiting around for the machine to boot, honestly.
Back here, checked sites and ate dinner. No calls! Yay! I do have the wi-fi
setup guy tomorrow.
Puttered around in No Man's Sky. Found a few things, installed a teleporter
onto my ship, increased my heat protection, and looked for drop pods. None
to be found. So much for upgrading my suit's capacity.
Then some warframe with the others.
Wed:
What's this? Another haul? So soon after the last one? Very odd.
The stuff wasn't as cold as I would have liked, was it done last night? Eh,
it should be fine, I'm freezing everything and I heat the heck out of it
anyway so a day won't hurt anything sealed up like that. Found a small
salad, two big ones, more chips, some sandwiches. Freezer is filling up
again.
Oh, right, work. Ran the erase customer data procedure again and got a
different result. Wrote it up. It was closed almost immediately with a
reference to another bug that was written against... a different product?
That had totally different steps and results? What? Well, I tried, you can't
say I didn't.
And from the same guy was a terse message that boiled down to "who are you
and why are you writing bugs against this?" on my bug about the one setting
being cloned. Who is this guy? Does it matter? There's a bug. Fix it.
Did not do the font tests, but I did prepare the machine. The other Robert I
guess came by and did the test. So I guess I don't have to do the test? But
what was the test? I still have no clue. Guess I'll ask at the
meeting tomorrow.
Talked to Ken about the supplies we have that we don't need, and the new
machines, and a new linux server to replace our old one. We need to load
some SNMP stuff but I think I figured out how to do it. Shoot, I should have
looked at Chris' notes (if any) before looking online. I said I was going
to. Well, tomorrow.
Otherwise that's about it.
Set up the wi-fi system for the guy. Fairly easy, no troubles.
Back here, checked sites, I had the salad so no dinner here. One call, her
machine seems to boot fine but then hang? I guess we'll see when I get over
there.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Thurs:
Meeting day. And Christina was out. We won't get a new onedrive app until
next month. And they're not even looking at bugs yet, only trying to finish
the actual functionality. Neat. Someone misjudged this project!
Helped with printing the CVS job again.
Figured out what they wanted for the bar code test, I'll write up some "test
cases" for that tomorrow I guess.
Not much else exciting.
Went to second job. Her mouse didn't work because someone took the receiver
out and lost it. Nicely done, couldn't have figured that out on your own?
The trackpad worked but somehow clicking on log in didn't work. It did with
an external mouse. Figured out the reason, the comma key was stuck down. She
admitted to spraying it with windex. Uh, no? So I get to order her a new
keyboard, and I left her the keyboard of shame, the bright yellow one. And a
mouse.
Got back here, checked sites.
Worked on my base, I decided on a second level for no reason. Sort of a bomb
shelter, so I went around and got enough blueprints for metal walls and
floors, and dug out a second level. Found some water, so I even get a little
pool down there.
Ate dinner. No calls, yay!
So looking ahead, as is often the case not sure what I'm working on
tomorrow. Nothing is coming in that I know of.
I'll go to the bank tomorrow, do the shopping, and see my parents. Then the
miracle game is on tap.
Saturday is up in the air. I need to get the driveway stuff so I'll clean
out the car and do that. Maybe going to Sean's, and maybe do emberhaven if
Stan's system migration has gone well. So we'll see.
Sunday I want to move more trees I found, start patching the driveway, put
the list together for labor day, maybe actually get some parts of Sean's
gift printed? Repair a cloth bag I found, maybe that's about it?
So that's the end of August. When we meet again it'll be September. You've
got four months, make the most of them. (in coming up with your christmas
lists)
See you then.
