Fri:
Broke software, neat.
Spent most of the day with the busted software. It doesn't work in the exact
way we need it to work. Was it tested at all before leaving Fuji? We don't
think so. Spent a bunch of time verifying that it didn't work in the way we
needed it to work. At first I thought maybe the printer wasn't reading the
card right or accepting the reader so I reconfigured it to log in another
way. The card reader worked. So it isn't that. It's just not accepting the
card beep and doing the thing it's supposed to be doing. 3 bugs written, had
a meeting about it.
Made a build of my iSort to give my parents, they can sort through the
trailcam as a test. I need to think of more tests myself if I want to
release it.
Did the shopping, saw my parents. Shoot, I forgot the TV I wanted to see if
they wanted. I put it by the door, I'll remember it next week. Went home,
put stuff away.
Did game, another easy one. My plan actually worked, and as the "big bad"
was foolishly working alone we nabbed him and everything was put to rights.
Go us.
Sat:
Cleaning - dad is coming over to finish up the Doctor Who for this year. I
guess it's not episodes yet, just three "specials," two of which I now have.
I mean they're just episode length, uh, episodes. Nothing special about
them, really.
Picked berries. Still haven't filled up my small container. I hope next year
is better.
Weeds - totally dug up a bunch of the side. That was the major effort of the
day. All weed roots gone, soil turned over. A bit of that old plant food
sprinkled around. So that space should be ready for planting. Got too hot,
came in to cool down, waited until sun was on the other side to continue.
Filled up my cart with the weeds. They can't be composted or anything until
they are all dead. Too risky more will grow from the roots if I make dirt
out of them. These stupid leaf things must be destroyed!
Paperwork from last month. Not much of it, so that went quickly.
Lunch
More outside work off and on. Planted some berries and put a stick there so
I would know where. My whole "use egg cartons" didn't work this year, maybe
this will work better.
Ordered 150 small plastic pots. I have plenty more spider plants to make
they have babies all over the place. Both here and at work.
Got my hoses hooked up and watered the newly moved plants. I hope they do
better now that they'll get some sun, and that they survive the process.
Left that going about 20 minutes. I took them from a few places, mostly in
the shade that's why I think they didn't do too well this year. Not enough
sunlight. Hopefully they survive the process, and then next year grow a lot
bigger.
Found that keyboard I was looking for. Gurr or sigh? I forgot I shoved in
into the cabinet Squeaker always tries to get into. Maybe he was trying to
tell me all along. I have a bunch of stuff in there. Well, the keyboard I
ordered was only $13.00 which seems very low so it could be crap or I don't
know stolen but he had lots of them so who knows? This one is a lot quieter
than the other one. At least I proved I did have it, I'm not crazy. Honest!
Dad came over for Dr Who. So no mention of the universe being destroyed?
None at all? Huh. Seems like an odd thing to just brush off.
Then we did some risk of rain. Or at least, that was the plan. The glorious,
glorious plan. But Sean was like "let's do some warframe first" and so
that's all we did. Oh well.
Sun:
Picked a few more berries and found 4 more bushes to move. There were more
on the edge of the driveway and so not really in the ground at all. Just in
the dirt that's accumulated. Everybody survived the night, they don't look
too wilted in the back!
Also found 6 tiny althea plants in the same spot. Put them in my one big pot
I have left until the smaller pots arrive.
Pulley replacement parts were back in stock for my snow blower finally, so I
ordered one. Hopefully it solves my slippage problem and I can use my
snowblower this year. I'll need it next week or something, right? Winter?
It's coming on right? Of course if it doesn't I have no idea what to do
about it.
Checked sites.
Watched more futurama, did I mention I got series 1 at good will?
Checked out a new gravity puzzle game on Xbox. Has some very weird "rules."
Like why can't I carry an activated box? I have to set it down, then
activate it. Why can't I activate the anti-gravity properties of a box and
then push it? Why do I have to knock it with another box like it was a
billard ball? If I can't negate gavity for any old object is it really the
gloves I'm wearing or am I just flipping a switch in the box? They make a
big deal out of the gloves in the game but what are they really doing? If I
am just flipping a switch in the box is that really all that useful? Why
build all these "portal" style obstacle courses when clearly there is either
box red, box blue, and box gravity on or off? I guess with enough of the
boxes you could make a train track and a floating train? What more
information is being gained through knocking these boxes around? How are all
these force fields being generated? I can walk through some of them, but not
carry a box through them? My clothes go through so it's not diallowing
inorganic matter. But others I can't, they can't be passed through at all.
These are force shields and probably far more interesting to any military
than boxes with a slight magnetic charge that makes them attact or repell
other, similar sized boxes. Why does disabling the obstacle course auto
generate an email to some other facility, and why does my character decline
to do so after hearing this, despite knowing the extra time it will take to
jump through the course's hoops likely means her cooworkers, who are
stranded in the snow some km away, are more likely to die? Am I still in the
past, or did getting sucked into the crystal at the beginning start a time
loop? Am I still playing the tutorial or is "this" i.e. reaching my
co-workers the game? So many questions.
Got ready for tomorrow. No calls the whole weekend. Bliss.
Mon:
Rain! We finally got some good, long term rain. Keep my plantos alive, rain!
Pretty boring at work. Nothing new related to the issues we wrote up so did
they look at it at all on their Monday? Doesn't seem like it. I figured a
lot more back and forth once I got in given how important this one project
is but no, nothing.
We did have a meeting about the stupid embedded fax, again. At the last
second, 3 minutes after it would have started, because Gina moved it because
she's out tomorrow. Seemingly another "yup, here's what it does all right."
So? One of the people even gave voice to the "what exactly are we doing
here? Haven't we beaten this to death? Stop making these stupid charts and
just fix the problem. Or decide we're not going to fix it." I silently
cheered that guy on.
I did get a new haul. Another box full, including 2 big salads and 3 small
ones. Plenty of new sandwiches, I was getting low on them! Brought some to
my parents along with the carrots and big salads.
Had another meeting, a new feature about cloning Versalink features. That
went on for an hour. Still no work on the Versalink issue. Strange.
Came back home, checked sites. One call, and the guy with the battery as I
got that. But I don't have his number, I just replied to his email. The one
that called has a full C drive.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Tues:
Christina made some progress this morning, as there was a plugin we didn't
try. The one we are never supposed to try. She tried it. It worked! We
aren't sure why, it's for a very specific use case but it at least allowed
us to test the rest of the day. We found a few more things. The user doesn't
time out, for one. I wrote another bug too, I forget what it was now.
Anyway, most of the day spent on that, I'll do the iPad stuff tomorrow as I
guess it's in now.
Then went to see the full HD guy. It wasn't full. I don't know what message
he was seeing. Came back home.
Got my keyboards, they are what they said they would be. Odd. Typing on it
now. Seems fine. Let's hope it doesn't break.
Checked sites, had pie. Got ready for tomorrow.
One call, the rug guy I've worked for since forever. He wanted to know why
spam filters were catching his spam like email suddenly? Uh, maybe because
it's spam?
Wed:
Set up the machine for the airprint tests. Wrote one bug on it, but it
exists in the earlier software (which I may remind you is also unreleased)
so who knows if it will ever be fixed.
Had a meeting about the bugs for the prox card login stuff. Amusing to watch
us and Fuji go back and forth over a 13 letter string in a text field. Just
put it in there. They claim we didn't exactly have the request in the right
place and we say we did. Strange.
Not much else otherwise.
Came back here, got ready for the guy to come at 6:00 for his battery
change. Checked sites, had pie.
He came. Wanted to know why the bill was higher. Uh, because instead of a
ten minute job of changing your battery, you had me look at your ancient
parallels installation with window XP and other nonsense which
took an hour. I told him straight out, the $20 charge was for changing your
battery. You've been here asking stuff a lot longer than that. He's going to
mail me a check. Not hearing from him again would also be a fine
compensation. Jerk.
Thurs:
Meeting day, had the usual onedrive meeting and the now hour long
bugs+status meeting.
Helped Boris get smartcard working so he can look at a customer problem.
Did some work on the tray bypass, showed the developer how it still didn't
work, and answered a question on a previous bug.
Seems that's about it.
No calls again, thank you very much. Froze my berries, two bags of them and
had to go out and pick the last little bit to get the 5 cups. I may get a
few blackberries but for the most part they're done. Hopefully next year is
better. The transplanted ones look a little sunburned but they're still
alive.
So tomorrow, not looking at too much to do. Shopping, oh and I'm bringing
some dirt and some pots, they're smaller than I would have liked but okay,
there's plenty of spider plants I can get set up over there.
Seeing my parents, and then the Miracle game.
Saturday is going over to Sean's, for the Embers game. Then Sunday, resting
up from that I suppose.
We are speeding into August, but it looks like we can enjoy one more week of
July together. I'll see you back here then!
