2022-07-07:
Fri:
Feeding the kitties, everybody's happy. Still haven't seen Onix though.
Mostly just stupid versalink and the delete jobs feature. I wrote one bug,
Christina rewrote one, and another. Took most of the day just to do one
model. It's the same tests over and over, we're not doing all of them in
future tests.
Brought more food over, went shopping, and came home.
No game, it was canceled at the last minute (sort of). Last night late,
that's fairly last minute I guess.
Checked sites, ate dinner, did Remnant instead.
Sat:
Knew it would be pretty bad. Was not disappointed.
Fed everybody, went to the first appointment. That one was fine, just a few
Mac questions.
Home for lunch.
Then out at 2:00 for round 2 of the drive saga. Didn't get home until 6:00.
Tried twice more, once with the duplicator and once with the duplicator
hooked to a PC to make the clone. Duplicator alone got to 50% really fast,
then stayed at 50% another hour. Didn't sound like it was clicking along.
The PC just failed.
So I put windows on fresh (after calling her) and transferred the stuff.
Stupid thing. They don't have much loaded, a few programs I hope they can
get back easily. The old drive is still there in case they freak out and
have to go back, but I wouldn't recommend it given the issues. Oh, and she
said the person using it was having issues, which I said "that would have
been nice to know earlier." I did get the check from them. And some sort of
tax form? They want my Social Security number? Uh, no? No other company I've
worked for has needed me to fill in this form that I can recall, so that's a
hard pass from me.
Had dinner. Checked sites.
Sun:
Out to feed everyone for the last time. Still no Onix, hope he's okay.
Picked berries. Not a very large crop yet. Only half a small container. I
mean I still have some from last year and next year looks okay with the
number of new stalks I have but I still wonder what happened this year.
There are still plenty out there getting ripe don't get me wrong but it just
seemed like a lot more last year.
Cut the front lawn.
Ordered a battery for my UPS that keeps beeping at me all the time.
Made a pie. Only one bag left.
Put my electric numbers into the spreadsheet.
Did some reading.
Parents got home safely, and they found Onix so that's good.
Got ready for tomorrow, though it's a day off.
And did Remnant. Still no roll of the place we want.
Mon:
Started a new print. Made the parts 25% bigger in two axis, we'll see if
that helps with the fit.
Decided I would look for the location of the weapon we're looking for on my
own, so we could go right to it when we next played. As luck would have it,
the first area I went to was the place we're looking for. We can go right
back to it. Neat, didn't even take 20 minutes.
Wasted over an hour printing the wrong part. Neat. Thanks past me. I
accidentally opened the wrong file, not realizing it, and putting it into
the slicer. Because the printing time was over 2 hours and that didn't seem
right to me. I had the parts too far apart, so when I went to fix it, I
opened the wrong file like a dummy. So stupid. So I've got another print
that is exactly the same as the prints that won't work. Useless. Started it
over with the right file this time.
Set up flutter on my Mac. This was not as easy as the PC. Why? Less
development effort? I had to use cocoapods, which was not explained in the
least. 2 years later I think the transition to M1 still hasn't really been
sorted out. I think the compiler didn't like the fact I was running the code
off the server, and had a space in the name? I was getting errors but moved
it to the desktop and it was suddenly fine. I had to (I think) update my
ruby? What's ruby? Why does this care? I'm trying to use flutter, not Ruby.
And I had to install some "homebrew" something or other to do the upgrade!
Ugh. At least it finally did open. It looks, uh, wrong. This is how it looks
on an initial open on Mac.
And here it is on windows
Strange, right? It's the exact same code. Shouldn't it look the same? Maybe
with a minimum window size it will look more the same?
Also had to add in a bit of logic to tell if I was on Mac or PC when it ran,
or it didn't make the folders right. I guess I should expect that. Oh, and
thanks for the sandbox or whatever, Apple, it's real great. That took me
some time to figure out too. It was giving me errors when I went to make the
folder, I guess programs don't get access to the filesystem by default? Uh,
isn't that the whole point of a computer? To store things and look them up
later?
Huh. Just looked at the app. It's only apple silicon, not a universal app.
So I couldn't even run it on any other machine in the house. How do I fix
that, I wonder? Nothing in my searches seems to indicate it would do that,
so no one is talking about how to fix it. Great.
Why is one of the halves printing smaller than the other half? I clearly see
each is scaled 1.25 in blender. Sigh. I'll have to reprint the smaller one
on its own I guess. If it looks okay otherwise. GURRR.
It printed. I don't know, the big one is too big! I'm reprinting them, both
at the same size, but only 1.1x bigger this time. Maybe that will work out.
Oh, and I made sure to pick the right file this time, so there.
Okay, good news. Scaling them by 1.1x seems to have done it. Without
supports the inside is really messy, and even better news! I just discovered
my "r" key doesn't work anymore. (technically the "o" key but as I type in
dvorak it's r for me.) Neat. Took the cap off, nothing is under it. I'm
using paste to make r's now. Anyway, they're pretty thin, but didn't break
too much when I took them off the plate. So I have one full part printed.
AArG why is r used so much in this language!? Just have 9.5 more parts to
go.
The keyboard is dead. Took it apart, just to see if the switches could come
out. I don't think they can. Vacuumed it, no change. Why this one key?
What's super weird though is I recall having more than one mechanical
keyboard at one time. There was one with a removable USB cable. I was using
it on my gaming PC when it was still in my room. What happened to that
thing? It must be someplace but I can't imagine where. I looked around for
it, no luck. Did I sell it? I didn't think so but here we are. It's not in
the car, and I wouldn't have just given it to a customer it was a mechanical
keyboard! What did I do with it!!!???
Ate dinner.
Made my call from yesterday. Guy down the street from work got internet
back. At least, he got a username he hasn't gone through the
procedure to get on the internet. Sigh. I guess that's my job. So I'm going
back there tomorrow.
There may have been victories today, but they have been hard won.
Tues:
Back to work, I guess. More testing of the new versalink software, delete
jobs on logout.
Also had two meetings, one for EIP fax to finish up that demo not that it
really matters it's been tested and one for good old Gabi, but it's Gabi Gov
not the Gabi I tested, which I didn't realize at start a few days ago when
it was set up for today. Whatever. Didn't have much to contribute, the
vision-e guy was there so what did they need me for?
Otherwise got most of the models tested, no real issues discovered,
Christina wrote up two things but I think one of them I already wrote up so
there.
Went to see Mr Politics, had to call Spectrum to get his equipment going.
Which thankfully enough we did. Wired his laptop and printer, too much
interference in that area.
Came back, got my Risk of Rain game in, installed that.
Checked sites, had dinner.
One call, York. Aren't they gone yet? Having trouble getting email. I'm
going to the bank tomorrow to take care of the other IRA but I guess I can
head there after.
Wed:
I did that, but let me tell you of many things. Almost didn't get this
week's "offering." Let me tell the tale. When I got in I asked Christina if
she had finished the two models that we had left to do. She was just
finishing the first. Being the gentleman I am I offered to do the second.
While it was upgrading I realized I wanted to use the table that paper is
set upon in the lab. The table that was very messy. I needed to straighten
it up so I could have a small corner of it. In the process of this, I broke
down two boxes of paper and put them into the nearby cardboard totter they
have in the hall. During the test I moved from one lab to the other for some
reason. I noticed something. Something... new. Boxes one might find for
display of various food goodies. "Ah ha," thought I. "The purging has been
done late today." I took a quick spin over to the trash and found to my
delight I was correct. Everything was fresh from the freezer cold and
somewhat squished because the coffee machine stuff was thrown on top of it.
Nontheless I persevered. 2 cookies, 2 brownies, several small salad, half a
package of those yummy sugar donuts that will kill you but you
will love every second of it, and another host of sandwich foods. John was
all like "oh it's getting down there" yesterday like the free food dispenser
wasn't up to his standard so take that, freeloader! No really, take some
more, there's plenty. And more to come. So that's the story about food.
And there was some work in there someplace I guess? Finished the test for
the delete jobs on logout. Had two meetings about the bugs for it, worked on
the iSort program a little, (very little) and uploaded some old firmware for
Gina.
Went to the credit union. Filled out the form to get the distribution of the
funds. Hit finish. The site simply took us back to the main sign in page. No
"good job you did it" page, no error message, nothing. Just the main site.
Huh? We did it again. Same result. She printed what she had saved, I signed
it, and she scanned it back and emailed the person on the form. Hopefully
it's going to work.
Then went over to York. They really are closing. She couldn't get email, is
Outlook 2003 finally catching up to her? Can't see a lot of sites either,
certs are expired. I said to use the webmail for now, it's basic but it
works. Couldn't figure out how to get her outlook to work. Putting it on SSL
gave an error, taking it off it asks for the password. But I know the
password, it's not wrong. So I don't know.
Finally back here. Checked sites, ate some dinner. Did the usual stuff. Ugh,
time for bed already. No calls today, thank goodness.
Thurs:
Today was super meeting day. I had nothing but meetings all afternoon. I
could hardly find time to stuff my face with donuts or salad. I mean...
uh...
The morning I worked on iSort a bit. Added more comments, cleaned up a few
things. I think it's "done" I need an icon and such and maybe more testing
but it does work. If it comes up OK on Mac, anyway.
Also crossed Kevin's task off the list. We figured out even though the
printer wasn't displaying them the fonts were being loaded. Go figure. Got
that printed and took a video like he wanted.
Then the afternoon meetings. Two for the onedrive thing that's close to
being done enough to give to us, the usual status meeting, and another Gabi
meeting. Onedrive probably won't come in tomorrow and Christina is taking
the day off so it should be pretty quiet around there. Let's hope so.
Went to Good Will, got a few goodies like a .99 Fluttershy plush. I could
have gotten a HUGE unicorn plush but where would I have put it?
Came back here, installed No Man's Sky because I got that. Started copying
stuff off my PC so I can install the SSDs I got in the HD's place. My
machine at boot is complaining about the RAID and I don't want to take any
chances.
Still no keyboard, don't know where that thing went to.
Picked berries, got a full (small) container. Found more cut, please stop
it!
Oh, and a bunny. A cute little bunny friend.
Munch munch munch munch.... that's not me eating the bunny it's the bunny
eating grass. Just wanted that to be clear.
One call, helped him over the phone no big deal.
So looking ahead no game tomorrow, Sean is gone. Meeting the Fam for dinner
to celebrate Heather's birthday so that's convenient. Maybe Dr Who after?
Nothing for Saturday at the moment, one hour until that's official. I do
have to cut the back lawn, pick more berries, look into a new keyboard,
print some more of Sean's gift, and put some salt on the tail of that bunny!
July huh? Only a couple of weeks until labor day.
Anyway, see you all next time this entry is long enough!
