2022-06-09:
Fri:
More work on the new software, one new bug written. Then a meeting about
stuff.
Spent way too much time at the bank, doing IRA stuff. We're going to
consolidate all my 401ks (all both of them) and the IRA I currently have at
that bank into one account. So much easier to lose it all that way. HA! It's
basically just mutual funds so it's the same risk as my other funds. Which
is to say if there's a crash I could lose everything but really, how often
will that happen? Twice? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, it's fine. Everything's
fine. And if I make more than 1% I'll be ahead of the IRA I have now at the
bank so I'll be somewhat ahead.
Then saw my parents, helped move a freezer and put the fan in. Still pretty
noisy, but it's a PC you can't have a nice fanless design like a Mac.
Renewed my domain name, thanks for telling me it was expired, powweb. So my
site became available again.
Came back, did game with Sean. Or not, whoops. Jon bowed out.
We talked about the other game instead. Gave Sean some ideas for the magic
system, will he have it solid enough for the 20th? We'll see.
Sat:
Cool out in the morning so I did the weeding. Again, so much weeding.
Berries are coming along though, the buds are there, and new stalks are
coming in.
Cut the front lawn.
Had the car inspected. Was going to do it next week, but the site I made the
appointment on was like, "we'll be happy to have you today" so two minutes
after making the reservation I was driving down there. Only took an hour, I
brought my book to read so it was fine.
Lunch.
Cleaned up a bit, my parents are coming over.
Finished Another Sight. It had... an ending? It was a short game, only a few
hours. And nothing was really explained and the "side with nobody" ending
was really bizarre. Like, where did her house go? Why did it vanish? What?
Ate dinner, checked sites.
Tried to get a game CrossCode to recognize my gamepad. Not going so well.
Stupid thing.
Movie.
Got turrets in Remnant with the others. That made the boss fight we were
struggling with a lot easier. 6 turrets will do that.
Sun:
Realized I probably should have done a fast, low infill version of the first
piece instead of printing for 11 hours. Whoops.
Went ahead with it anyway because I don't go back, baby.
Did my paperwork from last month. 6 whole appointments. Nice.
Put more plants in pots. Now I am out of pots, but still have plenty of
trees in the back. So many trees.
Print going well.
Ate lunch.
Checked sites. Print still going well.
Played a bit of Crosscode, as I found a controller that worked. Got the part
where L2 activates the quick menu. The controller believes L2 is
continuously pressed. I'm not the only one with this problem. Why do none of
the game pads in this house work with the Mac? Or more specifically this
game. Is it that hard? I mean we had input Sprockets to use basically any
controller back in the system... 7 days? Eh, maybe 8.6. This seems like a
huge step backwards. When I press the buttons in my emulator software they
get picked up just fine. So I know the controller works and is picked up.
It's just this game that treats them in a bizare way. Lazy, I guess.
Went for a nice walk down the circle. Picked up some garbage but not nearly
as much as I expected. Well done, humans!
Print still going well.
Tried to connect my Xbox Wireless controller to the Mac. Worked fine.
Crosscode however was still unplayable. So I've got my old (and I mean old
as in from the 90s old) mac controller that the thumbsticks don't work. My
playstation sixaxis works until you can open the quickmenu and now you're
stuck. And the "standard" controller it was like several buttons were
pressed. How many hoops do I have to go through to play this game? Why is a
controller setup so crazy in the year 2022?
Tried pairing my old wiimote to the thing. Needs some kind of pin number
generated from the MAC address backwards? Gave up on that.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Whew, the print came out pretty good. It's a tight fit but I haven't gotten
all the support material out yet. "Easy to remove" my butt. I hope I can
thin it out a bit more. I think this could actually work! I got the
dimensions right! I'm pretty impressed with myself actually. I'll print the
back, probably in a lesser quality because it's the BACK.
Remembered I have a PC. CrossCode has a PC version. Now naturally I would
much rather play on my Mac, for obvious reasons, but switching over to the
PC did allow me to use my wired xbox controller just fine so I played a bit
more of that over there. Then I went to bed.
Mon:
A rather nice haul today if I do say so myself. 4 small salads, a large one,
and a ton of sandwhiches. So hungry.
Finished up the one feature so we can be ready for the new OneDrive app
tomorrow.
We got in a D4.0 build which I had already loaded so I did a few quick
faxing tests just to be able to say I did so.
Also worked on getting some D7.6 content tested. Yes, it was a busy day. But
that too had been loaded on a device that was free so I just took and ran
with it. It's just a port, no real issues we got them all in the older
product.
Don't know if the "security scan" has been run on my empty server so I can't
install the app should we get it tomorrow. I emailed the person in change of
the whole thing, she said she hadn't heard. Great.
Otherwise, had my free sandwich, my salad before leaving, and went to the
bank.
We got the ball rolling on my one 401K and she looked at my mutual funds.
She was all gung-ho to punch them into her tool to show me how much better
it would be for me if I went with her service of managed funds. Sadly, my
numbers met or beat her so called "experts" sometimes by as much as 10% in
some years. HAHA. Don't listen to financial experts too much folks, when
you're dealing with the stock market, it's 50/50 at best so just look at the
long term numbers and hope for the best.

Went to see the guy down the street. Took care of a few things from him and
came home.
Checked sites, had one call so did that.
Then some crosscode. I don't know, even with the difficulty slider all the
way at 20% damage and enemy attacks at 50% normal speed I'm still getting my
brains beat in by a couple of turrets. Great. I guess this is one of those
"git good" games I really don't have time to "git good" to experience. I
mean I'm literally doing next to no damage to these things, do I really have
to shoot them 200 times each? Really?
Tues:
Spent the day on and off trying to get the onedrive thing to work. The first
problem was Ken had somehow put the network to "public" instead of "private"
which as you may know really screws windows up. I hate the thing MS does
sometimes, you know. Most time, actually. Then I had to punch a hole in the
firewall so I could use it off the virtual machine box. Is that what they
want the customer to do? Yikes. Then it wouldn't load any printers. Just
gives an error. An incorrect error, by the way. One device wasn't working to
even talk to, and I realized it was all the printers in that row. I messed
with the switch and got them all online again.
Had a sandwich with crackers and cheese. Which one notable exception; no
crackers. Yup, a person that bought that package would have been left
without the crackers part of the equation.
So yeah, that was all fun.
Stopped at my parent's house to give the salad and some more food.
Then off to see about extending a wi-fi. That worked, and I got his printer
hooked to it too. No problem. mostly.
Back here I checked sites, somehow got up to level 99 suddenly in
crosscode. And I seem to have max money and a bunch of nice equipment. How
in the world did that happen?
Got ready for tomorrow so I could do Remnant with the others.
Wed:
It took some time but we finally figured out why the device registration
wasn't working. I was using v1 of the spreadsheet but I should have been
using v3. Whoops. With that done I think we have what we need. He had sent
me two numbers so we each took one. It's only the first release of three so
there are some problems. We noted them down.
Moved some paper around. Had crackers in my crackers and cheese today.
Watched a demo of the new feature to add fax to copy only pin, and helped
with finding a bar code reader.
Went to see the printer lady. Had to use a USB cable because the router
didn't have a WPS button and that's the only way externally to hook up the
device. Thanks, Spectrum.
Came back here, checked sites. Thought about dual natured people and their
characteristics. Watched eps 1 of Mz. Marvel while I sanded the gift. I
think it'll work out.
Made four phone calls. One to Ellen, who wasn't home and was going to call
me back. She forgot as it's past 9:00 now. One person I helped scan, telling
her what to open. We figured out "attachments" were "links" so the guy isn't
having trouble opening attachments. Just links. I wonder if Thunderbird is
blocking them? And didn't reach one guy.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Thurs:
Meeting day. And more than normal. In addition to the usual status
meeting in the afternoon we had a meeting about the versalink software we
just finished testing. And about the OneDrive app we have now started to
test. We have found many bugs with it. Some are of course more serious than
others.
I also finished the testing of the Altalink model and moved onto versalink.
But I have yet to tell you the best part of the day. I found another 9
sandwiches in the trash along with two salads. With what I got Monday that's
a lot of food. I'll be bringing more to my parents. We can have the salads
too.
Went to Wegmans for more fake sugar, as I'm pretty sure Aldi won't have any.
Then came home.
Went for a walk, it was nice and cool out so I took advantage.
Got back, checked sites. Played some CrossCode. Strangely the game is far
easier now. How did that happen? So weird.
Called Ellen, as she forgot to call me yesterday. No answer. And no answer
from the fixit guy. Dude, how do you stay in business if you can't get back
to people? Don't you have a time, say between 7-9 where you return your
calls for the day? Seems like the thing to do. Odd.
She called back about 8:45. I once again explained how to move her pictures
into another folder. And we moved her 4000 emails from last year into a
folder. Maybe delete some? I don't know.
The future! Switching over to Versa for the onedrive app tomorrow. What bugs
will I uncover next?
No bank, just shopping and then seeing my parents.
Home for game.
A few things on the list for the weekend. Cut the back lawn, more weeding.
That will have to be Saturday as it's possible rain for Sunday. I'll have my
parents over for a movie. Maybe I'll finally do some more writing, or
working on the gift. I have another piece to 3D print so I could start that
Sunday. So far that's the big plans.
Guess we made it through the first week of June huh? Keep up the good work
everyone, we're all in this together. See you next week.
