Fri:
Tried to get the new machines up and running. Succeeded on the one.
(Christina helped me put them on the table) Big thanks to Ken, the lab
manager, for his help. Oh wait, he hasn't been there for three days he just
left the stuff sitting in the middle of the room. I mean we don't need it up
and running, but still. I hate having stuff just sitting there on the floor.
It's sort of a safety hazard?
The other one went into some kind of test screen, it doesn't seem to have
software loaded at all. Whoops. I wonder if these are loaded in the same way
as our machines? Maybe in the future, but without any software on there to
begin with it could be a challenge.
Finished the next chapter.
Did not have the meetings, our meetings keep getting pushed out. So no card
discussion yet. I had the machines all ready and everything.
Ken did spin up a new Virtual Machine for our onedrive testing. Yay, another
server we'll discard after two months, never use again, but have to maintain
and keep up to date every month. He also made us a new DC for Christina's
test of two machines in the domain with the same name. Don't ask, even I
don't understand it.
Did the shopping, saw my parents, came back, checked sites, and did Tina's
somewhat unexpectedly. Fairly late Xbox live went down it seems.
Sat:
Cleaned up a bit.
More reading of a webcomic I found. Basically what would happen in a world
of magical girls if the salior scouts existed and all of them but Sailor
Mercury were killed one night. What does she do? How does she deal with it?
She was the weakest member of the team, how does she now become independent
to keep defending the city? Good stuff. It's been going for years apparently
but they're only just starting to figure out something is actually doing
this for a reason and maybe they should look into it? I'm liking it.
Cut a vent in the back of the TV stand.
Cut the lawn, front and back. Weeded the berries. Doesn't look good for
berries this year. Maybe I never paid attention but it looks pretty bare
most places. Hopefully keeping the weeds down will help get them back in
there. The ones I've planted in the egg cups haven't done anything.
That stupid vine that winds around everything was out in full force though.
It was everywhere. Did some chopping of that. Go away vine thing!
And by the fence I found a lot of my bushes had been cut? What? I have to
think maybe they were poking through the fence but some of the cut pieces
(they were still left there) weren't even that long? I know they were cut,
and recently, because 1) like I said they were left there and 2. they were
wilting. Not dead. So my neighbors suck once again, it seems? They came onto
my property and cut my plants? The best they could legally do
is cut anything at the fence. That's that. They don't get to come on my
driveway and cut my berries. I mean at least ask me, hey, I don't want the
berries poking through can you tie them or move them? And I would have done
that. It would have been the decent thing to do, no? To ask I mean. But no,
they're jerks too. Honestly, I see the appeal of the country now, where your
nearest neighbor is half a mile away. I wouldn't mind so much if I had more
bushes, but those by the driveway are, strangely, the best looking of the
bunch!
Tried to make pie, but turns out I don't have enough flour after all. Shoot.
So that will have to happen next week.
Did some Tina's with the others.
Sun:
Checked sites, watched my daily videos.
Then took care of some movies, though I probably should have done more
Tales. Wasn't feeling it. Watched the Naruto movies that I hadn't seen. Like
five of them. 1.5x speed, baby!
Then over to my parent's house.
Came back here, made my call but no answer. He called back before Tina's, I
made him a rule to auto delete these scam emails and changed his email
password to be safe.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Then did Tina's.
Mon:
Got started on the eip fax test. At least I loaded the machine, there was
part 2 of the demo to attend.
After that I realized fax wasn't set up, nor could I set it up. Huh? I ran
the stupid wizard you need to run 3 times, no luck. Asked Christina, powered
the machine down, took it out, powered up, rebooted, turned it off, put the
card back in, powered up, set it up again. No luck. Great.
It's not the card, we put it into another machine and it worked just fine.
Weird.
Attended another meeting about the 2.0 bugs.
And tested on the other machine. It faxes, yay. (this was the most low key
yay ever by the way, I hope you read it as such)
Wrote a bunch of bugs, I'm sure most will be dismissed because that's what
they do.
Came back here, checked sites, ate dinner.
Got ready for tomorrow, one call. The guy from a few days ago. I wonder if
his fan is busted or something?
Sean wanted to do more Tina's so I had to be ready early. We beat the last
boss, time for endgame content.
Tues:
Busy day.
Spent the morning testing the fax stuff, finishing the other device. It went
fine.
Then had the meeting about the SHAC cards. I actually remembered (a little
too late) that we had gotten some other cards from somewhere. So I was able
to test that as well. I think the one card is busted, AND the software is
busted. I can log in with old D4.0, and D2.9, but not new D4.0 and later
versions like D5.6 give me a wrong password error, but the password is super
simple there's no typing it wrong. I tried several times.
Back here.
Got the laptop, the fan is spinning so it's not that. I'm running a movie on
it, while watching the temps. No higher than 110F by the looks, which is
acceptable. So there must be something else going on.
Checked sites, ate dinner. Surprise request to play back 4 blood, but it
needed to do a big update. Started that.
Played. But got kicked off twice. The router didn't respond at that time. It
came back the second time without me doing anything. Strange. I did get it
for free, maybe I should look into a new one. I was having trouble with it
before then, actually. I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.
Wed:
It brings- server check. I guess there was some vulnerability we needed to
patch really fast, so I spent some time doing that. It was surprising slow,
and the DC didn't finish at all. Odd.
Otherwise, wrote half a chapter, looked over a new spec for a feature coming
that I didn't know about, talked to Christina about AD trees and other
things.
Not a very productive day, all told.
Got home, the "using the mac as my router" trick does look like it'll work,
though it took a reboot or two on each end to get it working. I'm getting
the full speed, and hopefully it'll be more reliable. Browsing the file
server is way faster. Odd, it shouldn't be. Was the router a problem the
whole time?
Started the movie playing on the laptop again, we'll see if it hangs.
Checked sites and ate dinner.
No hang on the laptop. Made my other calls, one appointment for Saturday
morning and perhaps a new mac sale.
Could the laptop issue be the wireless card? I can't really test it, I'll
need an access point to get wireless back in the house. I didn't have one,
just an extender. He'll pick it up tomorrow.
Thurs:
Or will I?
The updates from yesterday really slammed us today. Apparently MS is
"improving" security with certs and when we arrived in the morning we
couldn't log in with smartcards. Well, I guess that's security? It took us
most of the day but we finally figured out the set of steps to add the
"correct" information to the user to now allow them to log in again. Thanks,
MS a little warning would have been nice.
Went out to get the cards from Tim, still not sure if I made the one right.
I plug in a card someone else made and it logs in fine. (After the stupid
cert stuff taken care of naturally) but plug in this one and suddenly it
can't reach the server? What? We're having a meeting tomorrow so we'll see
what the guy says about it. Stupid thing.
Got trash salad! I'm going to have to check that can more often.
Went to Staples. They were out of the thing I wanted. But I got home and was
sitting down and thought, wait, I can share the downstairs ethernet
connection, why don't I just share that connection up here with the Mini the
same way? Works fine. I don't need anything else. Take that, commercialism!
Checked sites, had dinner.
Took Oliver in at 7:15 for his checkup. The other two boys are next week.
Made my phone call. That's the second website that's having trouble sending
email. Different host as far as I can tell too. Very odd. Coincidence or
not? He's going to talk to the host, we check his side and there were no
filters on it.
Looking ahead I have a meeting tomorrow about the cards. That's in the
afternoon, I'll poke at the stupid thing until then I guess. Then shopping,
and seeing my parents.
One job at 10:00 on Saturday.
I have a plant to put in the ground that I apparently grew from seeds
upstairs, I wasn't even trying to don't ask me how they got up there. I
think it was part of my composting efforts and they survived?
Then more weeding, I'm sure more have grown in just a week.
Doing the paperwork.
That would seem to be it. Another week crossed off. Hey and it's getting
warmer out, it was almost acceptable today! Hope you're all doing well, see
you next time.
