2021-11-25:
Fri:
Got some work in today. The new onedrive app was available, so we took a
look. Setup was a bit of a hassle.
Wrote a bunch of things down for the developers to look into. some UI stuff,
some usability stuff like jpgs not saving at all.
Didn't really get through the whole test, Christina runs part of it on her
laptop, so once she left it was goodbye. However, I was still logged in so I
could at least do some usability tests. Until it stopped saving at all.
Whoops. Going to have to do more testing around that.
Did the shopping, saw my parents.
Came home, checked sites and put stuff away until game time.
Did game, finally took care of the town situation. Neat. Now maybe we can
have a bit of a breather, help the girl out that made it to the island to
try and get her powers back, and help put the town back together.
Sat:
Did the leaves, front and back. It was a pretty good pile, but more will be
coming. They haven't even really started to come down yet all things
considered.
Ordered some things, razor blades, tissues, and gift wrap. I won't need any
of them for a long, long time now. Except tissue, that I will need again.
Wrapped my friend's gifts. Was going to wait until next month, but then
decided just in case I don't get there for the next game because of some
cancellation I would bring them this time. Yay forsight.
Neil's was the most troublesome. I had to sort of tape two boxes together so
it looks like a giant T but it worked, it should be safe until he can open
it.
Ate lunch at 1:00, it took me quite a while to do the wrapping.
Called the company I had ordered stuff from to see if I could add something.
The lady that answered the phone not only did it without me waiting on hold
an hour, and without me telling her knew my name and my order. She added the
thing to it without an issue. Wow. Much service. So satisfaction.
Finished the shopping?
Went to Sean's, did game. We found Zane! Yay! He was even alive. Left with
some cleanup to do and not many leads so we'll just have to see how that
plays out.
Sun:
Made bread, used up the last of the zucchini.
Watched some videos. A "slow translation of FF7" because it's actually not
that great a translation.
Did some of the writing of the next chapter of the Tayna diary.
Ate lunch.
Called mr new laptop, he wanted 3:00 PM this afternoon and I wanted to get
it done today because new setups take so long. That mac mini setup was so
nice in comparison.
More video.
More writing.
Went out at 2:40 to do the transfer. This laptop managed 70+ MB a second
doing it. Nice! It was just a crappy spinning drive too, crazy. Not on the
new one, thank goodness. In fact he got a 256gb drive (ugh) but he had 122gb
worth of stuff. So his drive is pretty full at this point. Why such small
drives at this point? I stopped buying 256s for 512s because they got to the
be same price as I was paying for the big as for the small. I mean I realize
apple charges an arm and a leg for storage and RAM but at least now they
have an excuse because it's SoC. PC makers don't have that excuse. Don't use
such tiny amounts of storage! Though I do appreciate the last machines I've
set up had SSDs in the first place. Got back here only about two hours after
leaving. Nice.
Ate dinner.
Finished the chapter. Turned out to be 4000 words so that was pretty good.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Made my one other call, the frozen laptop lady. She originally wanted 8:00
PM and I was like, uh, no? But she said 4:00 was fine too. Sheesh.
Mon:
Man, I had to work at work, like, all day today! That was weird for me.
Anyway, finished up the tests on the color printer. Christina had moved the
cloud software onto our mail server, in hopes of solving some of her own
issues. Sadly, I must report this action as unsuccessful. However, it did
allow me to continue testing when she left, so I got through the monochrome
printer as well. Nice.
The versalink she is trying to test is giving her problems. And the one she
moved to is no better. It won't allow her to use the card reader. Very odd.
So that was today. No writing at all.
Went to see about the laptop. It took 20 minutes to boot, discover the
McAfee had expired more than a thousand days ago, and remove it. At that
point I realized something very strange was going on, making it so slow. I
checked for drive encryption, that didn't seem to be it. So I installed an
SSD and put a fresh copy of windows on it, not wanting to risk any
contamination from the old drive. He didn't have much. Of course, trying to
get the old stuff (while changing the permissions, yay!) wasn't working out
that much. I found a command line, uh, command, to change the permission of
a folder and just used that on the main folder, achieving access to it. This
allowed me to copy what I needed to. Mostly. I moved his chrome folder into
the right place but the new machine doesn't seem to pick it up. So, where is
it putting stuff then?
I came home.
Sites, finished the translation of FF7 series, ate dinner, and, uh, that was
it. The series was really long, but now I never have to watch it again.
Sigh, hurry up and bring the remake to PC, S.E. I'll even accept it on Epic
game store at this point. Honestly.
Time for bed. Two days remain until Turkey Day.
Tues:
There was yucky snow on the ground when I got up. It was snowing pretty hard
last night and some stuck around. Neat. Or not. I've only raked leaves once.
Looking around the neighborhood I see many trees that still have leaves on
them. As do mine. But the snow did melt and I don't think any is forecast
for the next few days so maybe we'll get it done before big snow?
More work at work, and some good news on the mac front. Seems it's moving
again. Current estimate is Friday. Nice. How about that, a day off (if it
comes early enough) and the weekend to get everything humming.
But back to the work front. With Christina still having trouble with the two
C405s in the place (she did figure it out in the end, some kind of weird
mode the machine was in?) I set up another device to test. Then I did test
it. Found a few things specific to versalink that I could send them. Test
done. Well, not quite, but maybe? Almost? She started testing her, don't
know how hers went.
Probably great.
That done I came back here, no work today. Checked sites, watched videos.
Guy from yesterday called, he had a few things I missed so I went over
there. Took delivery of another gift or two. Got ready for tomorrow. Then
warframe with Sean.
Wed:
Not much work today, Christina finished up her C405 test and had nothing to
add to my already extensive list. Go me. I also did not get an answer to
"how many more machines is appropriate to test at this time?" (Given fixes
are being made) So that was an answer in itself, I think.
I did more writing, didn't quite finish the chapter. Did the watering of the
plants too. Place was empty by the time I left, only two other cars in the
lot.
Picked up a gift and came home. Found a box of something I had ordered, a second
box I should say. The ebay people sent me a second one. Neat. I asked
them if they would like it back.
Checked sites, watched videos, ate dinner. I think I might do some warframe.
Yes, I know it's horrible as a single player game and I should play more Ni
No Kuni but there are some single player missions I should at least try to
do.
Ugh, did not get what I wanted. But isn't that always the way?
Thurs:
Happy giving thanks day!
Got up, checked sites, finished off that chapter I was working on yesterday.
Then over to my parent's house.
Now I'm back here, just finishing up the day.
Looking to tomorrow I have a few things in mind.
My paperwork from last month, as I realize I never did it.
Put the tree up.
Go shopping.
Prep the desk for the new mac.
Hopefully the new mac comes, but it is in the area so I expect it will, so
set that up.
done.
No game tomorrow, but we're maybe doing some sort of online game Saturday
night. I'm having my parents over for a movie too.
Not sure about Sunday, if the leaves are dry probably try to get some of
them raked up. A few more have come down.
That should do it. Hope everyone had a good turkey day and I'll see you all
in December.
