2021-10-07:
Fri:
Work wise, not much today. Everything is still in the future, or very much
in the future.
I did a bunch of writing though. I'm up to 2.5 chapters of the new book.
Going well!
Got a wheel for the mouse, it just fits in the cage. Hope they use it now.
Went to the bank, put in my last money for IRA but I guess I can do $6000
this year? That's what I recorded. Have to look, there's still 3 months so I
may get another $1000 by then.
Saw my parents, my mother had her first tooth surgery. She's in some pain,
hope it works out for her.
Back here, Sean begged off game again. Oh well. Gave us homework. Which I
did not do, because he's not my professor. Instead did:
Checked sites, put my new RAM in, working fine so far. Why was this other
stuff overheating? So weird. I'll take the heatsinks off and give them to my
father for recycling. Don't think I have enough RAM sticks for another
wreath, so I'll just stick them away until I do.
20GB now, not that I really need that much but eh, it was cheap. That's why
I'm not bothering with the 1GB sticks, who would care about that pittiful an
amount these days? Been completely stable so far, liking it.
Did some warframe, mining and fishing to get "standing" so I can buy the one
thing I need to make the last warframe part. I mean I get places like BJs
where you have to pay money to shop there. But imagine if you went into a
store, picked up an item, and took it to the front and they said, oh sorry,
we don't like you enough yet to sell you this item. Wait, you're not going
to take my money because you don't like me enough? How does that make sense?
Yet another way Warframe prevents me from enjoying it.
Sat:
Did the cleaning, as my parents are coming over.
Checked sites, videos.
Was going to turn in the gems I had gotten yesterday real quick because it
was tomorrow so my "daily limit" of friendship points should be refreshed.
Yes, imagine going to help your neighbor, but eventually they tell you,
sorry, you can't help me anymore because I just can't muster any more
friendship with you right now. So wait, I have this gem that I want to give
you, and you're going to turn it down because you've decided we
can't be better friends until tomorrow? That's video game logic right there
folks. So bizarre. But of course whatever "tomorrow" is hasn't come, despite
it being tomorrow, so I couldn't give them the stuff. I'll just have to wait
until it's later "tomorrow" I guess?
Did more writing. Got chapter 3-4 done.
Read over the Shonen document Sean gave us yesterday for the homework. Made
a few notes, but can't really make a character until he tells us more about
the world we're living in.
Bit of mining in warframe, got enough gems to improve my standing. But I
still need certain "debt bonds" that you can only get with missions?
Apparently the guy sells them but he wasn't selling any to me.
Then my parents came.
Watched a movie, and then (and this is key) another movie.
Sun:
Closed the upstairs windows. Sorry plants and kitties! But as my heat goes
on every now and then I figured it was time.
Started the print of Jon's gift. The base it seems printed first. (I can
only see the first part of the name) I'm doing it without supports so we'll
see how it comes out. It came out fine. Whew. I mean it needs sanding and
such but that it actually printed something with a curve like that, pretty
neat.
Ordered another SSD, I have one but I like to have two because I do so many
conversions.
Checked sites/videos as usual.
Got a few bonds, not enough though I kept getting useless stuff instead. Yay
for randomness. I mean what other job says "yeah, we have this project for
you, and if you finish it, I'll either give you some diamonds, a set of
windshild wiper blades, two crates of apples, or a single, perfect rose. But
I'm not gonna tell you which until you do the job for me." None, that's
what. You would say "I want the apples" and the other person would say
"done." Because that's how it works. So stupid, I kept getting "Endo"
fellows I have like 80,000 endo, I don't need more. Honest. Stop giving it
to me, I need 2 debt bonds.
Watched a video while eating lunch.
Wanted to wrap Sean's gift, but it had the wrong date. It's not a christmas
gift silly. What a loser. I'll have to reprint it, but that's fine it's a
lot easier than 3D printing something. 2D is the way to go, baby.
Started part two of the print.
More warframe- finally got the stuff I needed and both my new frames are
building. Well, the part for the one is building, that's 12 hours. Then 72
hours later the frame itself will be built.
Worked on the story, wrote part of chapter 5.
Print came out pretty good. The supports did not want to come off. I've got
some work to do to clean it up, but the front is almost perfect. Which is
what matters, it's all you'll see. I'll still do what I can to clean up the
back of course, and the minor repairs the front needs. I'll just paint the
whole thing white after that, so it looks the same. Maybe I'll print the
stand gold, use some more of that up? The stand printed exactly the right
size so I think it looks good, the item just fits into it which is a relief.
I may print one for my very own.
Got ready for tomorrow. Had two calls over the weekend. One person with
popups in edge, she just had an extension loaded somehow, so I got rid of it
and ran mbam just to be safe. The other was the mac guy down the street who
found "CS 3" and wanted to know if he could still use it. Uh, no, sorry bud.
Pretty sure it's 32bit so you're not getting anywhere with it on a modern
machine. Sorry, but that's just how Apple rolls. They don't support
everything back to PS/2 ports like windows does.
Mon:
The mouse found his wheel. He was using it when I got up. And when I got
home. Did he run all day? Wow.
Reprinted the thing for Sean, let's slap that bad boy in... Huh I should
have brought a tube to put it in to protect it on the way home. Well, I
won't be taking it home today. I have plenty of time, I won't see him until
the 16th anyway, for the next game at his place.
Otherwise not much work wise. We tracked down a barcode reader and Don asked
about private key off the printer. I have no idea, dude. I just test stuff,
remember?
Finished chapter 5, her first run in with something from the other world.
The first of many.
Came back here, one call, wants tutoring. I'm going there tomorrow. I also
helped a lady put email address into a group so she can email said group.
Tues:
Had the voice meeting, nothing to report I'm afraid, how hard is it to
figure out if you should or should not support analog fax? (The answer is
no, please let the fax machine die in peace!!!!)
Wrote the next chapter.
And then, as usual, we get to the problem child. A man who claims his only
issue was not being able to open a URL from his desktop (it pointed to
something I think that didn't exist and he couldn't just type the URL of the
site himself, of course) yet while sitting there not using his machine it
crashed. Then upon reboot BSOD. And then started to hang on boot. Neat. Oh,
it wasn't hung, the caps lock light went on, but on the other hand it
wouldn't do anything either. Except in safe mode, where it worked perfectly.
So what????? THE????? HELL????? So I messed with it from 5:00-7:00, finally
brought it home, and messed with it some more instead of playing Warframe on
the one night we can play warframe. Thanks, PC. 14 year old, PC, I should
state. What was the issue? Who knows? I took the modem (yes, it still had
one of those) out, reseated the RAM (again) and it's booted fine ever since.
What?
And went to bed. Oh, and I ate dinner in there someplace, helped Ellen, and
made an appointment for Saturday. (Tomorrow is return PC, Thursday is take
cats in, Friday is seeing parents. Yeah.)
Mouse is still using wheel, wow, loves that thing! Neat. Gonna be the most
buff mouse ever.
Wed:
What can I say? Not much new at work, Ken is on vacation, no work has come
in, no meetings today. Just finished chapter 9 so that's, uh, three chapters
today? Couldn't be... but I finished 5 Monday, and "the next chapter"
yesterday so you do that math.
I did briefly check the domain server for Adnan, who is doing some odd test
again but it was fine.
Brought the PC back over. And it started hanging on boot again. Neat. I
turned off the windows sound, unplugged everything, why is it hanging like
this when it was fine at home? I finally took out classic shell, and that
seemed to do it. Huh? Maybe I wasn't rebooting it the same way? Or something
and so I didn't notice? I don't know. Anyway, got back before 7:00. Oh yeah,
and he only wrote me a check for $50 so he stiffed me the tax. Thanks, dude.
Checked sites, worked on Jon's gift. One part just doesn't want to glue. But
I painted the stand gold, that seems fine. I just have to get some white
spraypaint and I can do the main part. If it ever stays together. It should
be fine.
Houdini is still running in the wheel, get some sleep little guy.
Had a great idea for the next chapter, after the combat, gonna be so good!
Thrus:
Meeting day. Got asked to do a test, but our virtual machines are messed up
now and Ken, the lab manager who is supposed to be keeping track of all
this, is on vacation. And didn't tell us it would be happening so we could
plan for it. Neat. Anyway, we can't log in, the virtual manager was down
most of the day, even the lab calendar was messed up. Oh, and the one
printer wouldn't get a DNS address I had to give it a static one. So, test
not done. Then I found out John of L3 had also been asked, but the person
that asked me didn't know, so I didn't have to do it anyway. Glad I set the
machine all up for when access was restored.
Otherwise, meetings. Plants. Writing a chapter.
And you all know I'm fairly dumb. I got out of the meeting, did the plants,
and wanted to finish up that chapter so I could get to the next one, that I
came up with last night in a flash of inspiration. I mentally reviewed.
"Yup, I didn't talk to anyone last night so therefore I have no place to go
today. I will sit here and finish it."
I did finish it. At 4:25. I put my stuff away, and was thinking "now I get
to go home and oh crap I was supposed to go to the vet today at 4:20." Nice.
Why didn't my phone vibrate and tell me? It seems to vibrate when it wants
to? Sometimes every few seconds as discord chats happen, but other times
I'll look and find things and it hasn't. Why? So anyway I called them, and
they said better to cancel despite the fact I could have made at least one
cat's appointment only a few minutes late as it was scheduled for 4:50. So I
now have next friday at 10:30. Huh, isn't that some kind of lunch thing it
work? At 11:30? In fact I can check it from home. Nope, it's actually 11:00.
Whoops. Not making that. Oh well. That's my punishment I guess. You get a
week reprieve, my kittens.
So tomorrow. No bank, but I'll do the shopping, get some white spraypaint.
See my parents. Then do game, as it's apparently on this week. Write the
"good" chapter I came up with. Wanted to do it today but the combat took too
long. As usual. They almost died, by the way. Whoops. Herman had to save
them.
Have a job for Saturday morning, finish the gift I hope, wrap Sean's
birthday gift, then maybe go to the museum for free Sunday?
So that's week one of October. Some good was, possibly, done? Anyway,
posting a little early because Sean is free to do xbox stuff tonight. Where
he is not usually. So I'm getting ready for tomorrow and such.
Hope to see you all next week, same complaining time, same complaining
station.
