2021-09-02:
Fri:
Not much at work, I did look over the test plans for Christina's stuff in
case there's something that comes up when she's out. Hopefully I understand
them enough that if something came up I could set up the test and perform
whatever needed to be done. But even more hopefully that won't be needed.
Otherwise writing another chapter and a bit. I think I'll have Kelly be
stabbed during filming.
Did shopping, went to the bank, and saw my mother, my father was doing
plumbing for the shops. I hope he gets a discount on his booth or something
for this month, he's had to go there three times for this issue. And he
retired years ago, so he should get double.
Came back here, put stuff away.
I was sitting there waiting for game time and checking sites and such, and I
saw what I thought was a hair on part of Neil's gift that was sitting there.
So I went to wipe it off. Paint came off on my finger. Neat. Just from
touching it. How can I keep it on there? It was dry, it's been sitting there
for days. So I get to wipe it all off and repaint it. Maybe I'll spray it
with the clear top coat? It's so odd, usually you have to use special
chemicals to take paint off. But not this stuff! It's easy clean up. My
goodness this project is being a real problem.
Did game, we beat the angel without killing him, so that's a win. We
"killed" a few that had been summoned there by him, so does that count? My
character thinks it does, and will seek atonment for this great sin. We made
it back in one piece, took care of the aftermath of the attack, and left the
priest who wanted to use the shortcut in their custody. Maybe they can try
it his way if we fail.
Sat:
Did a bit of cleaning, worked on the list for labor day. It seems to be just
the standard list, so it shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary. Vacuumed
the floor. I'll do this several more times (if I remember) before washing it
because I always get cat hair up out of it. Even if I've just done it. Yeah,
I have that many cats.
Went out to do a job not far from here. It turned out to be chromebook, with
a stupid busted LCD. Yay.
Ordered the part, hope it works because usually it don't. I couldn't exactly
tell them, oh, sorry, I don't do that, when I was already there and he was
telling me a story about how I had changed one for him. Sigh. I think the
cat sat on it and broke it. She said she used it, put it away, and the next
time the display was just busted. Raindow lines, and a big dark spot in one
corner, no usable image to be seen. Huh. I plugged it into their TV to make
sure it was still working otherwise. It was. $90 for a replacement? Seems
high, but it's the best deal I found. Odd. Or not, given I can hardly buy
cat food anymore...
Had lunch.
Put the unhardened resin out in the car, hoping the heat would help. It had
tho opposite effect, that of melting what was already there.
Neat. That worked out because I could then clean it off fairly easily, and
repaint everything. Which I love. Doing things again that I have already
done.
Anyway, everything is all repainted again, and tomorrow I'll try and mix up
resin and hope this time it hardens. The question remains though, why did
sunlight and heat melt what is supposed to harden with heat? I mean it gets
warm, it's a chemical reaction, and that turns the liquid resin into solid
resin. But this went backwards. It doesn't compute.
Played a bit of Outer Worlds
And left for "game." It was just the other two making characters mostly,
which was fine. I got a yummy dinner, got to help, and got to watch a movie
afterwords.
We did do a little game, at least getting the group together and finding our
first plot marker, which we stood in front of.
Sun:
Did some more work on the gift, mixing up the new batch of resin and pouring
it in. *crosses fingers*
Cut the front lawn, good thing I did it early it rained a bunch later in the
day.
Had lunch.
Moved my monitor around to use the new stand I "acquired" from work. It
doesn't really hold very well, I've got it propped up on the speaker. But it
is a bigger monitor than I was using, and it gets it off the tiny stand. Did
I write about ordering the wrong stand for it? Yeah, could hardly press the
power button on it, but at least now it's useful. Still not exactly the
right resolution, but it's good enough I guess.
Sites and videos.
Wrote chapter 1 of part 2 of Tayna's adventures. What happened yesterday.
Figured I might as well keep going with her adventures. I just have to
finish the first part now!
Resin seem to be hardening this time. Yes!
Ate lots of zucchini for lunch and dinner. Still have plenty.
Did some reading outside, until it started to rain anyway.
Got ready for tomorrow, played more Outer Worlds, and made my calls.
Guy down the street was incoherent as usual, his "not being able to open
pictures" solved itself apparently, but he had some other problem that he
couldn't explain and said he would call if he saw it again. Super. The other
call was the quicken lady. Apparently I didn't actually print to her
printer, or she screwed it up somehow, because it's not printing now. And
she's not online with that machine, so I can't remote into it. Yay an hour
of driving! Yay Yay! Just what I wanted, universe. And I can't even charge
her because it could have been my fault for not checking. I mean I made sure
it was recognized, did I have to run paper through it too? Windows?
Apparently I did.
Another fantastic week begins.
Mon:
Thank science, it hardened! Now I know what you're thinking, and no, that
isn't what she said. It was what I said, when I checked on my resin this
morning. Seems there's no stickiness, and the parts are holding together.
Sweet. Time to do some gluing and put them away forever before something
else happens to it. Of course once glued together I still have one part to
figure out on it. But at least I can put it away so it doesn't get
scratched, or the paint rubs off, or whatever else is going to happen to it
next otherwise.
Now onto the glorious work that was done today. Er, yes, the glorious,
glorious... er you know what's coming.
Yeah, nothing new came in today, though I guess they did fix the login
issue. Probably for D5.6, still don't have an answer for that. Well, it's
progress anyway. Maybe someday soon I'll have them all fixed.
Wrote another chapter and part of one. Kelly got stabbed, took 9 damage,
went to the hospital, had to have magic done for the stitches, and was
healed with a potion from Herman in 45 hours. Neat. Time to start figuring
the sites out so they can visit them and do the sealing.
Went out to printer lady. Got it to print 1 page. Then it flashed the little
red ! on it and as the LCD panel was busted I couldn't tell what was wrong.
I suggested a cheap laser printer.
Back here at 5:30 (ugh) I checked sites, ate dinner. No calls, thank you universe.
Tues:
The usual Tuesday related work today, the voice meeting. I got the go ahead
to forget D5.4, we're way too late for that, and move to D5.6 the october
release. We'll see if we can make that one. It's been a year and 9 months
now, on this project, so who knows? I think the build was supposed to fix
the card reader being lost issue, but after it woke from sleep (which is
just does, who knows why) it showed as not being connected so maybe it was a
different issue. I'll have to look tomorrow.
Otherwise, finished the next chapter, wrote a bunch of the next one, and
verified the fax line still worked. All good stuff.
Came back, had dinner, checked sites. One call, the LCD people want me to go
over his laptop, that his granddaughter is using. I did, may I point out,
offer to leave an HDMI cable so she could hook her laptop up to the TV and
use it that way while the part was on order. Just pointing that out. Okay, I
can go back, it's fine. I'm going there tomorrow.
Glued the gift for Neil together. Looks good! Finally coming together. Just
one more piece to find and attach. What will go wrong here!?!?!?!?
Then warframe with Sean.
Wed:
What can I say, more of the same today. Though I did get an email that the
fix for the card reader thing was not in, so why did I rush to install that
build?
Not much else, new door code to remember. Ted came to see how I was doing.
And wrote the chapter where they tour the world and find out about the sites
they need to secure.
Went to clean out the laptop of the guy not far from me. Should have checked
if the LCD was in, despite the estimate being tomorrow. It was in. So when I
got home I realized I could have done both at once. Sigh. So I get to go
back tomorrow, yay. Cleanout went fine. Got rid of the usual suspects, AVG,
ancient JAVA, flash player, etc. I don't think it'll be any faster without
an SSD of course.
Came back here, my parents pulled in right after, took my gas powered
devices for the garage sale. Goodbye, gas powered devices! Oh, and the last
plant that made leaded gas finally shut down somewhere. I mean, huh? We've
known about the health risks of leaded gas for decades, right? Who was still
using that crap and why?
A few calls, nothing major. Did make the appointment for tomorrow for the
LCD. I really hope it works.
Otherwise sites, dinner, the usual there. Then a bit of The Outer Worlds.
Thurs:
Ah, meeting day. Where we meet (virtually) to discuss the thing we can all
see on the website anyway.
I loaded the newest D5.6 build which supposedly had the fix for the missing
card reader. And apparently it is fixed. Huh, is this the start of a trend?
I also loaded a new version of D2.9 because, whoops, I had an action from
last week I totally forgot about to check the xml file. I did that. It was
fine. Got that action done.
Otherwise, not much else work wise. Some Versalink still may come in soon,
and some of our products may be paused due to component shortages. Whoops.
Nothing good in the recycle bins, checked the plants out (seems fairly empty
in the building, Ted thinks unofficially that "but covid though" and you can
work from home. I accidentally typed work from homo there, doesn't mean
anything.
Did some writing, need to work out the layout of the train station and how
it all goes down. Fight scenes, am I write?
Put the LCD panel in, and it actually worked. For once. Wow. Can't see how
that happened. Came back here.
No calls, checked sites, ate dinner. Got ready for tomorrow. Played a bit of
Outer Worlds. I think I'm actually near the end but who can say?
And now we come to the forward looking part of the episode. Nothing out of
the ordinary tomorrow, more reading perhaps but I may figure the train
station thing out. No bank, I only have two checks, both from the same
person. Shopping of course and I'll see my parents. No game, Sean is busy.
Now the weekend, well, we may do the Labor Day stuff Saturday. Or Monday. I
don't know. No game, that won't happen until possibly next week. But we may
do the Friday game on Saturday? I'm not clear on it.
That's the only plan. We'll see how it goes. Have a good labor day everyone
and I'll see you back here next week. Ugh, Autumn starts in three weeks. Bye
summer.
