2021-06-10:
Fri:
All voice, all the time. Did probably the bulk of the voice testing. I don't
need to test if she reads me all the commands and such because that hasn't
changed. I just need to make sure it works with the newer machine properly.
And it does, for the most part. I started a new bug document and wrote lots
of nice things into it so it's not lonely.
Had a meeting about new customer troubleshooting we may do in the future?
No? Something about us talking to customers, which in my opinion would be
the absolute worst idea they could possibly come up with. And about apps.
What? No. Just no.
Forgot the banking. I'll have to put it on the table and write myself a note
for next week. I haven't gone in so long it's not the habit anymore.
Went shopping, got gas, saw my parents and even a Gabe.
Changed the battery for battery guy. Let's hope it works out. It was $20,
not worth trying to return so I'll just eat the loss. Yay, another reason to
love this job.
Put stuff away. Checked sites.
Ran game. Until way too late. 1:30 ugh. But they got through the puzzles I
made for them pretty well, and it's over for two months.
Sat:
Got up to go to the bathroom and 10:00 guy called (at 7:00 AM) to move to
2:00 PM. Sure, why not. Strange that it worked out that way but there it is.
Sometimes things do I guess. Though I'm not sure I would call that working
out but whatever.
Went back to bed.
Got up 8:30, breakfast.
Checked sites, watched videos.
Cleaned a bit, despite my parents not coming over. I mean why not, really?
Then went out to my 2 jobs. RAM and chrome maybe? She was having problems
but only with Chrome. Ran mbam, looked things over. Machine acted fine.
Slow. We figured out it was about 10 years old. So a crappy drive to be
sure. Had 2GB of RAM I added, will order a 4GB stick so she's at least maxed
out. Seemed to help, but we'll see.
Then setting up the iPhone. It went fine, I guess.
Back at 4:30. Ate dinner and watched a movie.
Started another game from my folder, but didn't get very far.
Warframe.
Sun:
Did various things around here, such as;
Finished a book. Turns out it was the second book in the series, and I have
the first book! But I don't have the third book? Sigh.
Took care of some work paperwork type stuff. Put in the LCD into inventory
despite knowing I'll never sell it. It's just such a hassle to try and send
thing back, though it was $70. I really have to say no to LCD type stuff.
That box of panels just gets bigger, but every time I think "no, this time
it'll work out." NOPE. LOL
Put my checks in, as I have enough cash for the IRA and didn't want to hang
on to these checks (all four of them!!) for another week.
Put an order in. RAM stick, case, USB 3 flash drive for work. I have a USB2
one, it works fine it's just if the file copied faster upgrades wouldn't
take so long. "But Robert," you say, "you're sitting around writing most of
the time anyway, why do you need a faster drive?" You make a good point,
anonymous voice in my head, you make a good point.
Checked sites and movies.
Worked on a "gift certificate" iPhone guy wanted me to make. He gave me $50
for some raffle thing so basically pre-paying me, he's going to put the cert
in, so then whoever wins it gets a service basically paid by him. I just
cross my fingers it will never be used.
Cut the lawn. Warm out. Some might call it hot, but it wasn't too bad.
Watched a movie.
Got ready for tomorrow.
Mon:
Figured I would do more voice stuff, it's all I've got. Wanted to see if it
would pick up tray 6, which this machine has had added on. Went to wake the
machine up, and it wasn't communicating. Guess what the problem was? (It's
not lupus) Yes, it's a cert! Apparently some gabi cert expired on Friday so
with the guy out today (gee must be nice!) no voice testing today for me I
guess.
Watched the apple presentation, no new hardware, just software stuff. I
guess that's fine?
And did some writing. Didn't get through a whole chapter though.
Maybe a half?
Went to see car guy, apparently there was a theft, but his camera system
only keeps around 1 week, and it happened more than that ago so that was
that. Of course it took me way too long to figure this out. Stupid camera
systems. I hate you! Cleaned his PC a little. Going to order him a new drive
for the system.
Came home, checked sites, ate dinner. Made my calls from the people I didn't
reach before.
And then warframe.
Tues:
No warframe today, I got back and my internet was down. Red light on the
alarm and everything. It was odd, I loaded up my pages and they seemed fine,
but only half loaded. It must have gone out just as I went to use it? Huh.
Well, I got fiber in 2018 on June 4th, so 4 years and 4 days without a major
outage is pretty good. Honestly the only other time it's been down any
length of time was when trying to do game once, for like an hour. Though
Sean says he remembers other times it "was wonky" but that's the one that
stands out to me.
Anyway, didn't get a cert at work so while I did a little scan to home stuff
for the stupid app customer thing they're talking about, not much else work
wise. John figured out he had a bad card reader, but my only contribution to
that was handing him mine to borrow.
Finished the next chapter and started another.
Went to see iPhone guy. He gave me a bunch of food, and was 5 minutes late.
Still didn't have a charger so we had to sit in his car where the USB c type
connection was. (it's a 12v plug)
But I finally got out of there around 7:00 (ugh) and got home.
No new calls, thank goodness. Called Greenlight, got an appointment for
Thursday morning. Sigh, I mean yes, it's fine, but it's still like being blindfolded.
Got ready for bed, no internet for you!
Wed:
Had a few things to do at work today. Was looking into the scan app would
work in two places, but not the third. Didn't come up with a satisfactory
answer though. There's nothing that should prevent it working. I checked the
proxy, the time, DNS servers, everything I could think of. No luck.
Also spent some time trying to reproduce a bug with a smartcard login. Oddly
it was on both D4.0 and D5.4 and I was able to recreate it with D4.0, but
and upgrade made it go away. D5.4 on the other hand, it worked all the time.
So weird. Figure that one out.
Came back here, no calls, thank goodness, but I do have an email from
someone. Well, can't you help can I? I'll still call her back.
Internet is still down, in case you didn't get that. Hates it, yes we do.
Brought the phone number and ID so I can at least call into the meeting
tomorrow. Hopefully the repair person will come early and get it taken care
of right away.
Thurs:
Got my internet back! I guess when the limb hit my power line it must have
grazed the fiber line too. It just took until now to fully manifest. They
got here at 9:00 (just as I was calling in to the meeting of course) and
were gone by 9:30. Didn't have to be here at all. Oh well. It works again,
yay!
Got in to work at 10:00, did some testing of bugs on the new preview
feature. It's neither more reliable or easier to use. It's still painful to
use, and it sucks. Whoops, maybe should have put more effort up front
instead of relying on some library we can't fix? Just a thought.
Had the other meeting, and did the plants. No writing.
Left for spacebar guy. Hey, do you know what I hate most? Long time readers
will know: it's having my time wasted! Got there at 4:15 or close to it.
Walked around the building. No guy. Called guy. No answer. Left a message
"hey I'm here, where are you exactly?" Waited. Called again. No answer. Now
here's a little story about this place. There's no names on any doors. You
walk in, there's a sitting area, but no one seems to be around. I could have
walked off with anything, though there is a camera there. (And we know how
good those are always working, again long time readers are nodding their
heads) I wait until 4:30. I call again. No answer. I leave a message "Guess
something else came up with you, I'm leaving, maybe we can try next week."
Dude then calls me at 5:30 whining about "are you coming?" Uh, dude, check
your messages. I was there an hour ago, waiting for your stupid butt. So now
you get to wait. Idiot. Maybe next time pick up the phone when it rings?
That's why we have them, or whatever?
Back at home I caught up on sites, movies, and got ready for tomorrow. One
call, a guy I haven't reached in a few days though I keep trying, and
spacebar guy.
So what's coming up? Tomorrow the usual stuff, getting groceries, gas, and
seeing my parents. Then home to play the new Demongate High adventure.
Cutting the back lawn, it's going to be nice over the weekend, only 70s this
week. That's it so far.
Website guy called me back. Finally after about 15 minutes he finally
clicked his mouse a few times and got me on. Then... he had no idea how to
get to the website he supposedly had trouble with! Wonderful! How did you
get there in the first place? And this is some sort of "defensive driving"
course. Buddy, if you can't remember the website you were just looking at
before you called me, you have no business driving! None. You need your keys
taken away to ensure your safety and mine.
Lots of interest in the house across the street that's for sale. People
keep stopping to look at it. Weird, nowhere near the same activity for the
other place. They want half the price, $115,000 so that may have something to
do with it. The picture is really weird, the one in the front? It looks set
wayyyyyyy back from the road. But it's not. How did they do that? Some fancy
smancy camera setting, I reckon.
Finally, after three times, website guy figured out how to get to his
website and he logged in and it was fine. So that crisis on infinite earths
was avoid.
So you've had the first full week of June. Everyone out there doing okay? I
hope so, and I hope to see everyone back here for more adventures next week.
